This is it! Bryna and Shanice are ending Season 1 of the Heart Truths podcast here, at Episode 8.
We want to end with the beginning: How we met, and how this podcast came to be. Fun fact: Did you know that we were virtually strangers, when we said ‘YES’ to co-producing and co-hosting a podcast from scratch together?
Besides enjoying the dramatic story of our whirlwind professional romance, this finale episode also circles back to the podcast’s main objective: What it means to leave home, and pursue life out of one’s comfort zone. Bryna and Shanice delve into the themes of identity, belonging, and navigating cultural nuances as minorities in Canada and Singapore respectively. They take stock of the season, while sharing perspectives on adapting to new environments and embracing challenges with courage. This has been a brand new venture and adventure for us. What a journey, what a joy. Thank you, listeners. We are beyond grateful. Heart to Heart, from us to you.

Our most intimate episode yet.
The path less travelled is already paved with bumps and challenging crossroads for singles; all the more so when you embark on an adventure with a partner.
Sure, two are better than one, but what do you do when setbacks are shoved into the scene, shaking up existing relationship roles and dynamics?
Shanice shares about the difficulties she encountered with her partner Dennis, as the two weathered anxiety, long-distance, and uncertainty about their future.
Bryna reveals the marriage hurdles she faced with her spouse Harpreet, after their relocation to Canada with two young children in tow. She shares helpful suggestions and the mental reframing she underwent as part of navigating this difficult season of self-sacrifice.
Despite their respective difficulties, Bryna and Shanice persevered with their partners and highlight the importance of communication, empathy, and humility in fostering growth and healing in relationships. -
Money matters. You can desire to relocate and do life differently, but what if it means that financials will be a stretch?
When relocation meant moving from a dual-income to single-income household, Bryna initially struggled with the loss of financial independence. While she later found her professional footing again, she then experienced being undervalued by clients.
As a full-time freelancing artiste, Shanice has experienced the spectrum of challenges that come with freelancing, including financial uncertainty. She emphasizes the importance of financial planning, to ensure financial stability and freedom.
In this episode, Bryna and Shanice share candidly about their money-related struggles, how they moved from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset, as well as the importance of knowing one’s worth, value, and setting boundaries at work. -
“You are a nobody.” Have you ever had someone tell you that, in your face? In this tell-all episode, Bryna and Shanice share vulnerably about the lowest points of their journeys, when they faced harsh rejection and felt like failures.
While trying to establish her career in the performing arts industry, Shanice struggled with anxiety and self-doubt. These struggles were compounded when she was told on multiple occasions: You are a “nobody”.
Bryna enjoyed professional success in Singapore’s media industry. But, while attempting to find media-related professional opportunities after relocating to Toronto, she faced multiple closed doors. Bryna was told: You are a “nobody” in a foreign land.
Despite painful frustrations and setbacks, Bryna and Shanice shifted their mindsets, and succeeded in overcoming adversity with resilience. They share how they rejected the rejection labels others had stuck on them, and provide encouragement to those experiencing similar situations. -
You and I know there’s no such thing as the “perfect time” to venture out of our comfort zones, to relocate, or to pursue a different life. But how about the “best time”?
As humans, we gravitate towards shaping the future we desire for ourselves. We strategically plan for the best time for something to come to us, but that timing often doesn’t go our way. What do we do, when the open door we’ve so longed for finally comes, but the timing isn’t ideal?
An open door connotes positivity and light, but what lies ahead as one steps through that open door could be murky darkness that leads to difficult seasons of wandering and wondering.
In this episode, Bryna and Shanice share how they moved forward bravely by leaving home and doing life differently. Despite “bad timing” and discomfort, they chose to embrace uncertainty and did not rely on external validation to make bold decisions. -
Are you: Thinking of leaving home, have already left home, are in the midst of figuring life out, or just feel really alone somewhere in the world? If this is you, then this episode is for you.
The prospect of leaving home is both daunting and exciting at the same time. Saying YES to venturing out of your comfort zone could mean many NOs: There are things to let go of, and harder still, to sacrifice.
So many things hold us back. Plus, the more life baggage we have, the more considerations there are. Your heart says yes to the call of the wild, but your mind says no to leaving the nest you’ve built up for yourself. You want to say yes to a life of unconventionality, but there are financial and professional losses to weigh.
In this episode, Bryna and Shanice share how they navigated all these tricky YEses and Nos in their respective journeys. They delve into what held them back, and how they overcame various actual and mental hurdles to say yes to leaving home. -
We can't wait to launch Heart Truths, stay tuned!
