  • In this episode, I explain why LinkedIn is one of the most powerful tools for networking and job searching, whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or a mid-career professional who hasn’t actively networked in years. If you didn’t start networking years ago, the second-best time to begin is today! I share examples of how LinkedIn helped me find opportunities, research companies, get introductions, and reconnect with old colleagues and references.

Many women from my recent job search challenge felt their networks were small, but I encouraged them and listeners to think bigger by including past colleagues, classmates, family, neighbors, and connections through kids or volunteering.

    I also cover LinkedIn basics:
✅ Use a recent profile picture
✅ Add relevant job titles in your headline
✅ Tell your story in the About section
✅ Include volunteer work and career gaps in the Experience section

Once your profile is ready, start connecting—LinkedIn’s suggestions make it easier! If you need more convincing that LinkedIn is worth your time, listen in to hear how my daughter landed a job through LinkedIn just a couple of weeks after creating her profile.

Let’s connect if you need help with your resume or LinkedIn profile!

  • In honor of ADHD Awareness Month in October, I took the time to listen to "ADHD is Awesome" by Penn and Kim Holderness. One of my kids was diagnosed not too long ago, and being a fan of the Holderness Family, I knew their book would be both entertaining and useful.

I wasn't disappointed. I was surprised however by how much I personally identified with so many ADHD symptoms, especially with my current life changes. Becoming an entrepreneur leaves me to set my own schedule (which I love!) and combined with becoming a (semi-empty) nester with no kids in K-12 education, the rythyms and structure of daily life have changed significantly this past year.

I don't have a diagnosis of ADHD, but I found several strategies that Penn and Kim talked about to be immediately useful. From focusing on making one change at a time, to gamifying an activity (think: beat the clock), to having small, immediate rewards, I've already put these into practice for myself and will be sharing them with my kiddo and ADHD friends.

If you are interested in getting a copy of the book, you can grab it HERE.
You can also follow the Holderness Family on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheHoldernessfamily

    Oh - it's also Chocolate Appreciation week (Oct 14-20, 2024). You're welcome!

  • During an intense group workout at Red Rocks Amphitheater last week I realized the power of coaching and community. I know without a doubt that if I had been there on my own, I would have given up much sooner, and wouldn't have worked as hard.

Included in today's episode are the insights I recorded on the drive home from the Red Rocks workout. The recording quality during these parts is subpar, but the energy level was high!

Some key benefits of coaching and being part of a group include:

investment (I'm committed to the work because I invested $)accountability (showing up)consistency (improving by regularly doing the work)comparison (motivating, but also need to focus on ourselves)leadership (an expert guide)community (encouragement from others)

While my insights were gained during a group fitness class, they apply to career and job search coaching as well. If you're in a job search and want the benefits of coaching, let's chat! As of July 24th, I have 3 openings for 1:1 coaching beginning in August. Here's a LINK to schedule a discovery call.
