About our guest:
Janine Cooper-Marshall trained as an actor back in 1981. She has also recorded thousands of transport announcements…

Across the world, millions lack access to clean water, reliable energy, the internet and safe transport to take them to education or work. Infrastructure like this is the foundation of a thriving economy - but financing it is a challenge in lower-income countries and those affected by conflict.

Our goal? To improve lives, promote climate resilience and economic growth, and alleviate poverty.

But don’t take a break from your medicines.

When your baby or child is unwell, it is a really worrying time. Sometimes it can be hard to know what to do, but it’s important to trust your instincts and get the right help.
Strep A is a common type of bacteria that is found on the skin and in the throat. Most strep A infections are mild and easily treated.
Scarlet fever is caused by strep A. It is usually a mild illness that is highly infectious. It causes a distinctive pink-red rash and flu-like symptoms and is treated with antibiotics.
Script 2
In a different time, when words were lit with lightning and history was carved from magic, there was a far-off land where stood a monument. A divine statue. Golden and strange.
At first glance, it seemed to be on the edge of a burial ground - guarding sarcophagi and long forgotten tombs.
But beneath it, there were no bodies to discover. No cadavers, no skulls, not a single bone.

The nine separate enneatypes are grouped into three clusters called triads. Each triad has one thing in common, a point of view or a feeling that they perceive the world through. Some Enneagram practitioners refer to these as the "three knowledge centres."
The triad groups represent three ways that we can process information.
People often use words like "gut," "bones," or “heart,” to describe their feelings - such as in "I know it in my…gut”. Which option they choose can be very telling.

Drawn by the jobs and industry that gold generates, a population of approximately one hundred thousand people has grown around one of the largest open-pit gold mines in the world, creating a unique living situation.

The City served as a testbed for uncrewed aerial technology, thanks to a unique drone trial – an example of how innovators are using our sandbox environment in exciting ways.
We made real progress with our LifeCycle data trust pilot project – a groundbreaking initiative that draws on the City’s world-leading trust structure and applies it to data stewardship - an area that offers huge commercial potential for the city. Not only introducing innovation but by mapping route data, we can help make cycling across the city safer and more rider-friendly.

How does that sound?

In Ep 107 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Ruth Urquhart joins Sam and Mark to talk about terrible writing and what you can do with it without offending the client, there's a touch of scurvy about our reads, and we get stuck into THREE scripts for a change!
Our VO question this week is all about how to make a duff script sound better!

Script 1
In 1747, James Lind set up his study at sea: Twelve sailors suffering from scurvy were split into six groups with two men in each group. All six groups shared living quarters in the same end of the ship and were given the same diet during the course of the study, with the exception of six different treatments that Lind wanted to test.
The first group got cider. The second group got diluted sulfuric acid. The third group got vinegar. The fourth group got sea water. The fifth group got two oranges and a lemon. Finally, the last group got a purgative mixture of commonly used medicines.
Script 2a
She grasped her carefully embroidered reticule, a present from her beloved aunt Mary, given to her at Christmas, a gift that she treasured dearly, despite it’s garish colour, and stepped off the sidewalk into the busy London street, narrowly avoiding a huge puddle. She hailed a hackney which appeared suddenly through the fall gloom. The driver’s rough attire of sackcloth pants held up by suspenders looked filthy but she tried not to stare as he pulled his horses to a halt beside her.
‘Can you take me to Clarence House?’ she asked. The man grimaced.
’Clarence house be 5 blocks away, he growled in his distant London accent ‘ I ain’t got time, lady! I be workin’
Script 2b
As she walked she thought about her brawny Highlander, Hamish Campbell, the one who had proposed to her only a week ago and to whom she had run from despite her longing to be with him. ‘Doona go!’ he had pleaded earnestly, ‘I doona want to live without ye, I can no.’
His deep voice resonated in his head and she flushed to remember it. They had not been alone, his 5 cousins, Angus, Calum, Bret, Jed and Colin had witnessed the whole embarrassing episode there on the riverbank next to their little croft house in the little village of Firth on the banks of the river Forth.. she had stood right on the waters edge, the men behind her.

In ep 105 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Danny Watts joins Sam and Mark to talk about dialling up and down the brightness for a corporate script, getting historical clues from within the script, and why getting together for drinks can enhance your voiceover career!

Script 1
To modulate their brightness, LEDs are typically pulsed on and off at regular intervals. This approach is called pulse width modulation, or PWM for short. When an LED is asked to operate at a much lower brightness, it ends up being off more than it is on, effectively limiting the amount of brightness levels it can create, thus reducing the effective bit depth of the video being displayed. The result is noticeable banding and visual artefacts on the images being shown on screen. To alleviate these issues, we have introduced Dark Magic on all our Tessera LED processors.
Script 2
A fine morning sir and isn’t that the most precious collar I’ve ever seen on a Barker. I wondered what would it take for you to part with such a handsome coat? I know the value of such a garment - I have a keen eye and a heavy pocket - and I deal in the finest accessories sir. Why, just the other day I sold the smartest hat to a lovely young lad.
