  • Happy New Year! In the second of our festive specials of “How Do You Say That?!” we've delved into the archive - and pulled out an episode full of gold with voice actor and casting director Emily Jardine.

As with our Christmas special, this is UNEDITED, warts-and-all! Don't miss Charlie the puppy turning bad, what happened when Sam had a power-cut mid recording and a very squishy sounding Igor - well it was first broadcast around Halloween 2023!

It's about 20 minutes longer than the usual podcast, but there are some real gems in there, and all the bits you don't usually hear before we start recording, after we finish, and when we mess up too!

Get involved! Have you got a Wildcard suggestion that we should try or an idea for the show? Send it to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to [email protected]

    Script 1

A killer can come in many forms.

From the Visionaries, to the Mission Oriented.

Hedonists, To the desire for power and control.

A trait is often shared between these abhorrent individuals. A trait which strikes fear into our hearts.

Their innate ability to blend amongst humanity.

From a single glance, you may think nothing of them. You might even trust them.

Until it is far too late.

    Script 2

    Dear Henry

I'm Charlie, a Corgi puppy who is quite new to the whole dry food feeding thing. I only like to eat the best of the best and I'm worried that my parents aren't feeding me the right food. Call me high maintenance, but I want a food that ticks all the boxes: tasty, keeps my coat lovely and shiny, my 'parcels' firm, and helps me develop as I grow into a bigger dog. Does such a food exist or are my expectations simply too high?

    Best wishes,

    Charlie x

It's about 20 minutes longer than the usual podcast, but there are some real gems in there, and all the bits you don't usually hear before we start recording, after we finish, and when we mess up too!

    Script 1

Creativity is an aching need for self-expression and a longing for meaning. That’s why the best creatives I know pull from their sense of childlike wonder, which means, breaking free of mediocrity and taking a deep dive into who you were, who you are, and who you hope to be.

So it asks...no, demands...that you let go of your artificial boundaries and rediscover all your wonderful weirdness—the experiences that make you different from everyone else on the planet.

And when does life ask that of you? Or, when was the last time you could do that without feeling judged? That’s why creativity is such a rush. It’s the undeniable truth of who you are being recognised and embraced.

    Script 2

    Season’s Greetings one and all

Christmas is just around the corner

When the most competitive league in the world

Meets the most wonderful time of the year

SFX: Festive jingle bells effect joins the match atmosphere and remains throughout.

And at Craven Cottage, there’s a fabulous feast of festive Fulham fixtures

All loaded with hopes, dreams and atmosphere

This is your chance to take in some brilliant Premier League action over Christmas

And help Fulham wrap up as many home points as possible

SFX: Crowd erupts with cheers after a goal and continue singing.

    So come all ye faithful

And treat yourself to an early present

    Script 1

So what makes a Good Life? To have done something important do you need to be named? To have made a difference do you have to have an image which is instantly recognised? Do you need a million Tweets and a billion followers? An Oscar winning bio-pic? Is the business of a life lived to the full only worth knowing if you yourself are known? A tree falling in the empty forest is not unheard. If nothing else it’s noticed by the other trees. So I fall. Back into the silence of history.

    Script 2

It’s wearing your heart on your sleeve

    but keeping your cool.

    The noise, the chants

    Points won, points lost.

To win the cup or just stay up

We go again, we march on.

Win games and you’ll be fine.

    Football, bloody hell

Its turning up and never giving up

    Meeting triumph and disaster

Dust yourself down, pick yourself up

    And face the arena.

    To coach

    To lead

    To deliver

    To succeed

    You just do it.

    Script 1

This trunk had two neat brass locks, one left, one right, along the front of the lid. Ethel, after fumbling, opened the first – then, so great was her hurry to know what might be within that she could not wait but slipped her hand in under the lifted corner. She pulled out one pricelessly lacy top of what must be a bridal-veil, and gave a quick laugh – must not this be an omen? She pulled again, but the stuff resisted, almost as though it were being grasped from inside the trunk.

    Script 2

    A long, long time ago, organic remains were safely stored deep within our planet;

Where it turned into carbon compound.

Let's fast forward to the industrial revolution, when we first discovered that we could use this carbon to fuel our societies.

    But there's a catch.

Every carbon particle we burn, turns into a CO2 molecule, that is filling up the atmosphere.

Which is bad news for our planet — and for us.

    Script 1

Let's start by accepting and highlighting three basic, concrete, and absolutely undeniable premises:

    1. Everyone, without exception, has felt fear at some point in the past.

    2. Everyone, without exception, continues to feel fear, often and on many occasions, in the present.

    3. Everyone, without exception, will continue to feel fear in the future. All human beings (in fact, all living beings) feel fear.

Fear is absolutely necessary. Repeat after me: Fear is absolutely necessary.

So, your boss has given you the go-ahead to work from home. Awesome!

But moving from a secure office environment to your cosy home office isn’t as simple as just logging onto your home WiFi. Script 1

My freedive in the kelp is at summer's end when the water is still balmy from a season of sunshine. The kelp look shabby, abraded and overgrown, signs of imminent change and a shift towards autumn underwater. An invisible pulse of energy sweeps the ragged fronds one way, bending and flexing the stipes, then hauls them back the other. They flutter and billow in the flow like drapes in a blustering wind, as the surge pours through and over them. In heavy seas, this is where their strength lies. No oak, pine or redwood tree could survive such ferocity on land.

    Script 2

Tuesday, that was that works thing I told you about, ages ago.

“Just a few more weeks and then you don’t have to deal with him ever again,” my makeup artist Mandy reminded me as we sat in the costume trailer between takes.

Since I’d set foot in British Columbia, Canada, and met Richard Brice he’d been a pompous arsehole. I was the Bonnie in the Bonnie and Clyde–style indie movie I’d signed on to as soon as the second season of Picture This ended. Picture This had been my big break. We’d started filming when I was nineteen and I’d moved down to London to do it.
