In this episode, we explore the power of transformational experiences with **Hannah Newman** and **Mike Wang**. Hannah has devoted her career to creating life-changing experiences, from leading international education programs and shaping Minerva’s first-year student experience to developing innovative healthcare education systems at Guild. For her, working at Minerva was a rare opportunity to align her personal mission with her work. Mike, a designer focused on fostering connection and belonging, was part of the founding teams at both Minerva and ASU and is now building a "home for the magically weird" at the venture fund Long Journey. He lives in Oakland with his wife, two dog-like cats (Luna and Neo), and a baby daughter on the way. Together, Hannah and Mike share their journeys in building meaningful communities, blending personal values with professional life, and creating spaces that inspire growth and connection.

Mandy Nguyen is a Bay Area-born artist and the daughter of Vietnamese refugees. She's currently a podcast producer and science journalist at Vox but feels most herself when she is dancing, gardening, and exploring the great outdoors.

Robert Karl, a historian with a passion for foraging—whether it's for wild food or hidden stories—specializes in modern Latin America and the Caribbean. His book “Forgotten Peace” is a debate starter on Colombia’s peace process, both in the US and Colombia. When a Minerva student first met him in person, they immediately said, “You’re just as tall as I imagined!” (6’1" inches/210 cm)

As a multi-cultural, forever curious, dog and book-loving person, Daria loves to spend her time in the clouds. There she tends to find inspiration for a future painting or short story. When with people or dogs she loves a good hike, bookshop stroll, or museum trip.

Levy Odera was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. He enjoys equipping youth with knowledge, skills, and experiences for doing meaningful development work that improves human wellbeing. He does so at Minerva University and in an organization that he founded known as Systems Acumen for Youth-Led Development Solutions (SAYDS). He loves spending time with his family, playing soccer, and coaching children soccer.

Braydon Rutherford comes from a little flat in the heart of Pinetown, South Africa. Every week, he would wash cars with his friends in this block of flats to be able to buy a pizza at the end of the week, where they would sit around and share stories, eating the fruits of their labour. This formed his love for storytelling, and he wishes to share stories of his humble travels with you, dear listener. So grab a slice of pizza, and we hope you enjoy it.

Ibrahim (M25), Pakistani born & bred, is a Finance & Economics Double Major who is either making inappropriate/dumb jokes or talking about football. Constantly believing in 'Don't Overthink, Just Do', he looks to constantly jump into new experiences and enjoy the little things in life, whether that be tracking down phone thieves in Buenos Aires or getting on a small motorbike with 4 people. He hopes to harness the universal language of sports to empower communities and bridge international divides - telling jokes throughout the process of course.

Musical Theatre Company Thalia was created by a bunch of theatre geeks coming together and realizing that there is one significant thing missing in their global university experience - a student society that would take up their time outside of classes, as well as enable to realize their passion. Through its series of projects, Thalia quickly became a place in M25 community where apart from relentless work of actors and crew members on new theatre projects, surprising and close friendships have been formed.

As part of M19, Louis helped build many of Minerva's community institutions, including the ASM and Convivium. Raised in NYC, he's been back in his birthplace of Berlin since 2020. After his Capstone on Minerva's carbon footprint, he now works at CDP with the highest-emitting companies in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria on their decarbonization.

High school dropout, single mom at 19 with two daughters, started college at 24, married again at 29, gaining a husband and two sons. BA from UC Berkeley; PhD UCSF; postdoc Stanford. Pursued an academic science career for 30 years, worked 6 years in philanthropy and 9.5 years in education innovation at Minerva.
