    Fred Cook has worked at Golin for over 30 years, during which he has had the privilege to work with a variety of high-profile CEOs, including Herb Kelleher, Jeff Bezos and Steve Jobs. He has also managed a wide variety of clients, including Nintendo, Toyota and Disney. In 2014, Cook published "Improvise: Unconventional Career Advice from an Unlikely CEO", which shares the wisdom he gained as a cabin boy on a Norwegian tanker, doorman at a 5-star hotel and chauffeur for drunks. In 2015, after speaking on college campuses around the world, Fred accepted an additional position with the University of Southern California as the director of the USC Center for Public Relations at USC Annenberg, whose mission is to shape the future of public relations and those who will lead it — through research, education and thoughtleadership.

    Matt Tidwell, Ph.D., is assistant dean for graduateand professional studies at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. He is also a faculty lecturer and the program director for the Integrated Marketing Communications graduate degree program at the KU Edwards Campus. Tidwell is an experienced marketing communications professional with more than 25 years of industry experience working in healthcare, energy and technology companies. In 2018, Tidwell received the Arthur Lowell “Communicator of the Year” award from the Kansas City Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

Her journey to the C-suite began with a role in sports PR and from there took a few twists and turns, including grad school and landing on her love of all things branding and communication.

  • What happens when your frontline employees are tired of apologizing on behalf of the company? When public perception isn’t in your favor? This was the reality Oscar Munoz faced when he took the role of CEO and chairman of United Airlines in 2015.

    So he went back to basics, embarking on an extensive listening tour with thousands of employees — and in time, things turned for the better.

    Oscar Munoz is the former CEO and chairman of United Airlines (UAL) and serves on the board of directors of Salesforce, CBRE, TelevisaUnivision, and Archer Aviation, a leading Urban Air Mobility company and developer of all-electric vertical take-off and landing (“eVTOL”) aircraft. He serves on the Pentagon’s Defense Business Board, is a trustee of the University of Southern California and the Brookings Institution, as well as an independent trustee for Fidelity.

    He is the author of the Wall Street Journal best-selling memoir, “Turnaround Time: Uniting an Airline and its Employees in the Friendly Skies,” published by Harper Business in May 2023. He is co-chair of the 2023 Blue Ribbon Commission for the National Association of Corporate Directors, the authority on best boardroom practices. Since 2022, the Oscar and Cathy Munoz Pave it Forward Foundation has proudly partnered with the American Heart Association (AHA) to create the AHA’s Social Impact Fund, providing financial grants and low interest loans for evidence-based, community-driven work to address heart health inequality.

    Under his leadership, United Airlines demonstrated rapid improvement, delivering industry-leading operational reliability, and sustained financial success, with stock value increasing 54 percent during that period. Munoz formally retired as UAL’s executive chairman in May 2021.

    Previously, Munoz served as president and chief operating officer of the North American rail-based transportation supplier CSX Corp. A decade of excellent financial performance, including a boost in operating income of nearly 600 percent, earned CSX recognition on the list of Most Honored Companies by Institutional Investor magazine.

    He has served in various financial leadership positions across diverse industries, including U.S. West, AT&T, Coca-Cola, and PepsiCo.

    He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and an MBA from Pepperdine’s Graziadio Business School.

    Hispanic Business magazine twice named Munoz one of its 100 Most Influential Hispanics, honoring his journey as an immigrant who, to this date, remains the only person of Hispanic heritage to run a U.S. airline.

    Martha Muzychka, ABC, MC, IABC Fellow, is an award-winning, experienced communicator and policy researcher with more than 30 years of experience. Operating as Praxis Communications since 2005, Muzychka brings together a unique community perspective with a firm foundation in strategic communications principles. Her clients are many and varied, including large and small organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador and across Canada from the government, nonprofit, community and private sectors.

    Muzychka has demonstrated strengths in communications, qualitative research, policy analysis, consultation processes, reputation and crisis management and writing. In her work, she explores new and creative approaches for communicating and engaging with target audiences by bringing together a unique community perspective with a firm foundation in strategic communications principles.

    A popular workshop leader and presenter, Muzychka has extensive experience in public speaking, workshop development and presentation and group facilitation. As well as creating custom training for clients, Muzychka is a licensed trainer for McLuhan-Davies Communication training products for Newfoundland and Labrador.
