Hello and welcome to Second Monday!
We got some good news and we got some bad news. The bad news is that a whole lotta life stuff got in the way of getting this episode out on time. What kind of life stuff? I’m not really sure because I was just sitting in my apartment watching THE ENGLISH. But I also don’t know how to actually get the words into the podcast or get the podcast into the email, so I am 100% dependent on my right and left hands- Ethan and Griffin. And they are both having a real shitty week. All I know is that Ethan is a trooper and Griffin is doing something he calls “full caveman” so he can’t even get us the proper title card for the show.
The good news is that, despite having a bad time, they are consummate professionals and we did actually manage to get the words into the podcast and the podcast into the email. So here you go. Title card be damned. And it’s extra good news because this is a fun one. We got to chat with my pal Deniz Camp about his new ULTIMATES comic for Marvel Comics and a bunch of other stuff. If you’ve never read any of Deniz’s work I’d urge you to go grab 20th CENTURY MEN with Stipan Morian and Aditya Bidikar.
It truly is a fascinating, powerful, and dense book that doesn’t quite read like anything else out there. A story about wars- cold, hot, and super-powered. But it is also a story about giving yourself over to something bigger than yourself, about questioning the world and your place in it, about faith, about loyalty, and about man’s inhumanity to man and our complicity in all of it. It’s not one you just read lightly. And Stipan’s art is one of the great joys in comics these last few years. So go to your local comic shop and grab a copy.
Also grab all of 20th CENTURY BOYS by Naoki Urasawa. It’s unrelated but it’s so damn good.
Anyway, enjoy the podcast and send some love to Ethan and Griffin today. They could use it.
That’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. I bet you didn’t think we were going to have two Mondays this week, did you?

Hello again.
I am in Buffalo, New York today to watch the sun go out. I have also covered myself in glow in the dark paint so that in our new, dark world I can become the next sun. I’ll let you all know how it goes.
Here we are at Part II of our chat with the mighty Skottie Young. If you’re not familiar with Skottie’s work, you should fix that. You can grab his amazing books like I HATE FAIRYLAND, MIDDLEWEST, BULLY WARS, THE ME YOU LOVE IN THE DARK, TWIG, and even his Marvel comics at your local comic shop or directly from the man himself here. And while you’re in a shopping mood, make sure you call your local comic shop and tell them you need a copy of AIN’T NO GRAVE #1. Skottie didn’t send it to me, because I think he secretly hates me, but I’m still excited to read it.
Also, make sure to sign up for his fun Newsletter full of art and thoughts and whatnot here-
Neat
Today is Final Order Cutoff for WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE? #18. We made this issue really stupidly large because it is the end of our 3rd arc and we thought it would be cool if you could use it to crush a small person with it.
At this point I assume you know the drill. It helps us, and comic shops, and you, if you let your local comic shop know you want a copy today. Please and thank you.
It’s a fun one. And big. Did I mention that?
And that’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Your new sun wishes you a wonderful new day.
