This week, we lace up our Doc Martins and hike over to the Pacific Northwest to the home of GRUNGE! We discuss bands outside the usual suspects of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam. Your hosts fondly remember this time, as we were young adults when the Seattle scene invaded all US rock nâ roll avenues. In retrospect, this sounds like less of a movement and more of a melting pot of many of the genres that had been established in silos during the 70s and 80s. Donât think you like grunge? Then check this out!
This episode features songs from bands outside the big 4 of grunge, but we donât think youâll be totally surprised. Many of these groups had similarities with the producers that were chosen, namely, Jack Endino. A perfect amalgam of punk, classic rock, and metal is right in Captain Content and Kevinâs wheelhouse. As usual, we have a lot of fun reminiscing about this unique time in rock history. Jump on the hike with us to grab a Starbucks, and donât forget your flannel!
Songs this week include:

This week we travel back in time to just after the dawn of PUNK ROCK (1978-1981)! We discuss bands influenced by the 1st wave who then took punk into various sub-genres. If you donât think Punk is for you based on secondhand information, we ask that you listen with an open mind and prepare to get out some aggression.
This episode features songs with the shortest track length that weâve ever played; itâs PUNK ROCK people! Punk is where Kevin started down his path of music fanaticism. Although, that was more based around the hardcore Punk scenes. This is the lead-up to hardcore, and what would establish punk as a lasting genre full of variety and originality. Hope you dig the 2nd wave!
Songs this week include:

This week, we received our annual audit visit from corporate! Thatâs right, The Chairman not only graced us with his presence, but he demanded we deliver to you this episode: âGrave Mistake: BĂC Shoulda Been Huge!!!â. One could argue that selling 24M albums would negate âShoulda Been Hugeâ treatment. However, when most folks can only name 3 songs by this band, and one of them is due to an SNL skit, we think they fit the bill.
This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category; however, there is a strong case to be made that theyâve been largely forgotten as innovators and architects of what we know as heavy metal. We think they should be remembered as titans of hard rock and metal! Hope ya dig!

This week is the seventh volume of our deep dive into the trippy and groovy beginnings of the heavy stuff! Cut your lava lamp on, gaze at that blacklight poster through the haze of smoke, and join your favorite rock nâ roll grave robbers as they dig deep into the core of 70s Acid Rock nâ Proto Metal crypt to unearth some obscure bands that helped influence and mold what would become known as Heavy Metal.
What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Well, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This particular episode is planted firmly in the: LOST category, as all of these recordings occurred between 1970 â 1976. As always, our hope is that we turn you on to something new in a genre and decade that you may have thought you already knew everything there was to know.

Meet Captain Content & Kevin in the pit again this week for a tooth-losing, hella good time! Weâre getting our aggressions out by revisiting the starting point of it all for Kevin. Once again, we will not be covering the Big 4 of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax, but if you love them, then you will love this bunch.
What is it that we do here at InObscuria? We exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. In this episode, we explore all things mosh-worthy! This is real meta,l people. All hail the speed and ferocity of Thrash! Our hope is that we turn you on to something new.

What is it we do here at InObscuria? This week, we start a new series all about appreciating the shredded, gravelly, gritty, raspy pipes and throats of rock nâ roll. We are focusing on lead singers who crafted truly special tones with their sandpapered delivery. Join us in celebrating these unique sets of pipes that set them apart from all the others. Anyone can scream, but only a few deliver gravel, grit & glory!
Whatâs this InObscuria thing? Weâre a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Our appreciation, this week, of rough and textured singing extends to all of the genres that we love. Kevin never realized how much this style of vocalizing had an impact on him until putting this whole thing together. As always, we hope we turn you onto something new!

This week a continuation of our series called âIn The Shadow OfâŠâ, where we compare obscure bands to a mainstream act. This is not about copycats, but more about artists with similar vibes, sharing a sonic landscape, or whose songwriting and playing styles are sympatico. This is another band that is near and dear to both of you humble hosts. A band whose unique harmonies and awesome riffs inspired both hosts to pick up guitars and start singing; the amazing Seattle grunge gods ALICE IN CHAINS! Join us as we discover other bands influenced and inspired by AICâs revolutionary game-changing music.
Whatâs this InObscuria thing? Weâre a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This is not a statement about bands trying to copy one another, but more that they have a shared sound and vision. Itâs been said that there is no originality left in rock nâ roll and it has also been stated that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. As always, we hope we turn you onto something new!

In this episode, we showcase the diversity of how a band can take a hit that youâve heard a million times and put their own spin on it. Who do you think did it best?

It is with heavy hearts that we deliver this weekâs episode honoring the passing of a guitar hero giant who also happened to be an awesome singer and songwriter: John Sykes. He was a guitarist deserving of the title guitar god who rarely got mentioned in the same circles as the Satches, Vais, Rhodes, and Van Halens. Most known for his brief stint in Thin Lizzy at the end of their career and as a brief member of Whitesnake. He should have been a household for playing on the Whitesnake 87 album that sold 25M records worldwide, but he was fired before it came out. Kevinâs a huge fan of Blue Murder, so we will focus on that band and some of the lesser-known projects he was involved in while also paying homage to his mainstream successes.
New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Rest In Peace John. Your pure musicality and amazing songs will live forever in our hearts!

This week we continue our journey to the Great White North! This is the triumphant finale of our celebration of an amazing power trio from Toronto that has been largely forgotten in the pantheon of rock nâ roll: TRIUMPH! From classic hard rock & metal to proggy AOR, this is a band that rarely gets the praise they deserve!
This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This is a band that Captain Content has mentioned before as a band he would love to dive into deeper. While not the most obscure band weâve ever covered (they have multiple platinum and gold albums in the US and Canada), they have been largely forgotten as the rock giants they once were. We think they should be remembered as titans or rock and thus: Huge-er-er!!! Eh?
Songs this week include:
Triumph - âTime Goes Byâ from Thunder Seven (1984)Triumph - âWhen The Lights Go Downâ from Stages (1985)Triumph - âMind Gamesâ from Stages (1985)Triumph - âPlay With Fireâ from The Sport Of Kings (1986)Triumph - âCarry On The Flameâ from Surveillance (1987)Triumph - âEdge Of Excessâ from Edge Of Excess (1992)Triumph - âI Live For The Weekendâ from Live At Sweden Rock Festival (2008)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!

This week we took it to the people, and the people agreed! Not just the people; we got the ok from The Chairman, Mighty K, and the entire 51st state of Canada! Therefore, we give you âGrave Mistake: TRIUMPH Shoulda Been Huge-er!!!â. This is part one of our celebration of an amazing power trio from Toronto that has been largely forgotten in the rock nâ roll pantheon. They also happen to have Bonafide Guitar God in the band that rarely gets the praise he deserves!

This week a spirit named Luci told us to go back down to funky town to find some soul survivors! Thatâs right funky junkies; weâre talkinâ about the hornier side of funk. The dirty, gritty soul thatâs juicy and sublime because itâs got a little garage rock and swampy blues backbone mixed in with the R&B. This is sweat-drippinâ, chitlinâ circuit-inspired rhythm & blues for your soul! Ya dig?
What is it that we do here at InObscuria? We exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. In this episode, we take a listen to all 3, as we move nâ groove our way through funk-infused dirty soul rock. Listen in and let your bodies move and booties groove.
