Listen along as Angelo discusses the new musical "The Selkie Bride" with the show's playwright Regan Hicks.
The Selkie Bride is based on Celtic folklore regarding the selkie. The selkies were one of the original versions of mermaids. In water they are seals, but on land, they shed their fur to become human, and are able to interact with our world. The selkie women once they shed their fur, the men would try and take it from them entrapping them on land and in marriage. As Regan explains, the endings of these stories would be on the positive side where the selkie women end up finding their fur and return to the water, free.
Regan created this musical at a time when there was an emphasis on women's empowerment in society and believed that this Celtic folklore reflected that.
This musical will be taken to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

On Episode 12 Angelo is joined by Anne Collins & Amna Farooq. Anne and Amna were both involved with the Madison Theatre during their tenure at Molloy. Anne graduated in December and has been working on the front lines of the COVID crisis since March. Amna graduates this upcoming December and when the Governor asked for nursing students to step up and start working in hospitals Amna immediately started working on the front lines.

On Madison Voices Episode 10 Angelo talks with Molloy College, Cap 21 alumni Peggy Sue Johnson and Mikey Marman. Both Peggy and Mikey were working on board cruise ships when they were shut down due to COVID19. They discuss what they've been up to since leaving Molloy and fondly look back on their years at Molloy.

Episode 9 of Madison Voices is is out now! On this week's episode Angelo talks with long time friend Aaron Gandy. They discuss Romeo and Bernadette, the Off Broadway show Aaron was working on when Covid19 shut everything down. Aaron is the Madison Theatre's house music director, directing shows from The Madison Theatre Christmas Celebration, our Give Our Regards to Broadway series, An evening with Judy Collins, among many other shows at the theatre. Aaron was hard at work planning for The Madison Theatre's production of Carousel in Concert as well, we hope to be able to perform that as soon as possible. On this week's episode Angelo talks with Molloy seniors Mollie Mae and Matt Gibbons. Mollie and Matt are on the E-Board for MPAC and have both been heavily involved in Molloy Life. Mollie is an RA, both are student ambassadors and were involved in Molloy Student Government. Mollie was previously the student body president. Matt and Mollie were seen in several shows at the Madison Theatre over the last few years as part of MPAC. They speak of the most recent show, Big Fish, where Mollie played Sandra Bloom and Matt was the head of the technical team. Both Matt and Mollie are graduating this semester, this was an introspective look at their time at Molloy.

On this week's episode Angelo talks with director, writer & choreographer DJ Salisbury. DJ was slated to director All Shook Up at the Madison Theatre this May. We are currently finding a new outlet to have DJ direct this show. As Director- Choreographer, DJ has set shows nationwide from California to Maine, Florida to Montana. DJ got his start as a performer in EPCOT center at Walt Disney World and has recently directed an off Broadway production. DJ has directed and choreographed many shows over the years and recounts several of his experiences.

Associate Designer on the Broadway productions of All the Way, Breakfast at Tiffanys, Annie, Chaplin, Ghost the Musical (Broadway Productions) and Brief Encounter. Michael also scenically designs most shows presented by the Madison Theatre.

Angelo speaks to his old friend Joe Ricci and playwright Lindsay Tilton. They discuss the Madison Theatre’s new initiative of bringing new works to Molloy. Their first venture on this new avenue is with Lindsay’s new play that Joe is producing, “Squirrel Screams and Other Dating Sounds." They also discuss Joe’s recent Hallmark channel movie, “In The Key of Love." We are looking forward to hosting Squirrel Screams at the Hays Theatre this summer, it is sure to be hilarious fun!
