More often than not, when children mask their emotions too much, the pressure builds until it becomes unmanageable. They may appear calm and collected on the surface—getting through school or social situations without incident—but underneath, they are carrying a heavy emotional load. Over time, this emotional suppression can lead to meltdowns, often occurring in safe spaces like home, where the need to hold it all together finally gives way.
Understanding that these outbursts are not random but a release of accumulated stress helps us respond with empathy. This episode explores the common reasons why meltdowns happen to raise awareness about the hidden challenges children face and how we can provide them with meaningful support.

For many children, the school environment serves as a stage where they put on a strong facade, dealing with the complexities of social interactions, academic demands, and the expectations of teachers and peers. They learn to mask their emotions and manage their behaviors to fit into the structured routines of the classroom, often striving to meet the pressures placed upon them. However, once the school day ends and they return home, the walls they’ve carefully constructed throughout the day can come crashing down.
This is one of the most commonly asked topics among parents whom I encounter. That's why this episode delves into the complex reasons behind why children can hold it together at school yet seem to fall apart at home. By understanding this matter, parents can better support their children in managing their emotional worlds and foster an environment that encourages open communication and emotional expression.

There has been a notable increase in the identification and diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). In fact, autism rates have skyrocketed from 1 in 10,000 in the 1970s to as high as 1 in 30—or even 1 in 20—in some regions today. This alarming trend raises significant concerns about the underlying factors contributing to these increases, as it suggests that a growing number of children may face challenges in their development and daily functioning.
There is, therefore, an urgent need for comprehensive research to explore the potential causes of this rise, as well as the development of effective interventions and support systems to assist affected families and ensure that these children can thrive in their educational and social environments. And today, I'm joined by the incredible Beth Lambert, director of the Documenting Hope Project, who is a passionate advocate for children’s health and a true pioneer in the field. Her dedication to uncovering innovative solutions for kids with autism and ADHD is nothing short of inspiring.

Traditional discipline methods don't work for everyone, especially for children with neurodivergence and ADHD. These children process information differently, and what might work for one child won’t necessarily work for another. That's why it's important to take into consideration their individual needs, strengths, and triggers.
Join me in another enlightening episode as we unravel how we, as parents and caregivers, cannot discipline out ADHD and neurodivergence. Instead, we need to focus on understanding and supporting the unique ways these conditions affect behavior and learning. Together, we’ll explore effective strategies for creating a nurturing environment that aligns with each child’s needs and promotes their growth and success.
