Her work spans social justice, academic research, media engagement, and artistic expression, aiming to create and popularize authentic narratives for Muslims in popular culture. Maytha has contributed to CNN and Huffington Post, among others. She has performed at significant venues, including TED conferences. Her Ph.D. in American Studies and Ethnicity from USC reflects her dedication to changing narratives around Arab and Muslim communities through media, education, and pop culture. Following Professor Jack Shaheen’s steps, she wrote a compelling document named Haqq & Hollywood (which means “Hollywood & the Truth” in Arabic) that was the basis of my exploration.

    🧞‍♂️ Pour cet épisode hors-série de @jins_podcast , je me suis essayé à un nouveau format où je décortique et analyse seul, à la lumière de toutes mes découvertes en résidence à la Villa Albertine de Los Angeles, ainsi qu’à toutes mes lectures et visionnages de films, une oeuvre ; ici celle qui a rythmé tous les jours de mon enfance, au grand désespoir de ma famille : Aladdin.


    🕌 Aladdin sert de miroir aux perceptions occidentales du Moyen-Orient, marquées par une histoire longue et souvent problématique d'orientalisme. La bonification de l’arabité d’Aladdin, appelé Al, la queerisation de l’ignoble Jafar, la sexualisation à outrance de Jasmine, représentée comme une figure à la fois indépendante et objectivée... Ça nous rappelle la responsabilité des auteurs et créateurs de contenu de transcender les clichés et de présenter des récits qui respectent et célèbrent la richesse des cultures qu'ils représentent.

    Omar Sharif Junior is an Egyptian-Canadian actor and model. He studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. Omar came out as gay in 2012, causing a significant stir in the Middle Eastern media. Besides acting, he's an advocate for queer rights and has written on these topics for international publications.Kais Boukthir is a Tunisian-born actor, content creator and model. In 2017, Kais was awarded a scholarship to attend the University of Southern Indiana. During his time there, he claimed refugee in the U.S. for being gay. He moved to LA to pursue his dream. He guest-starred on HBO's "The Sex Lives of College Girls". You’ll also find his hilarious TikTok videos, under the name Kayes Hurricane.Sharok is an Iranian-American adult film actor based in LA, who’s known not only for his work in the porn industry but also for his activism and outspokenness on social issues. He indeed won a GayVN Award in 2021 and won the Most Accomplished International Star Award at the 2022 Grabby Awards. He is also a bird lover, a painter and one of the voices of the Iranian revolution in the US.

    📔🤍 C’est un livre à mettre entre toutes les mains, pour faire germer l’amour de manière universelle. Mon essai est un manifeste pour faire la révolution de l’amour, toustes ensemble ! C’est une invitation à reconsidérer la manière dont nous appréhendons et pratiquons l’amour dans une société marquée par des divisions profondes et systémiques. En s’inspirant de ma culture arabo-musulmane, mon texte cherche à allier un militantisme politique et poétique, à réinjecter la joie et l’empathie, pour reconstruire un monde régi par l’Amour.
