  • By all logic, one would assume we’d treat AI as a strategic enabler to expand business capacity. Unfortunately, trapped in a lazy efficiency mindset, many leaders are happily accepting predictable pocket change while leaving their greatest value-creation opportunities completely buried under routine noise.

This week, I want to encourage you to do more by unpacking IKEA’s automation strategy. They didn't use their chatbot, Billie, to automate their contact center out of existence. Instead, they automated the mundane out of the call center so they could choose long-term strategy. You’ll see how they chose to avoided laying off their 8,500-person workforce, and took a path that turned a projected $15 million cost-savings win into a staggering $1.5 billion net-new growth engine.

My goal is to challenge your perspective by breaking down the mandatory, conscious choices you must make to unlock these kinds of results:

Refusing to Treat Operations as a Monolith: You cannot operate off assumptions or view complex functions as a single, blocky button. Operational excellence requires a surgical scalpel to look at the raw data and separate the signal from the noise. When IKEA isolated their 3.2 million interactions, they found 47% was pure routine clutter—questions about order tracking and return policies that shouldn't anchor human employees or stall customers. Clearing that noise is what allowed them to look further upstream. Escaping the Efficiency Trap: When an AI tool drops your workload by nearly half, the default corporate playbook tells you to downsize the team and hand the board a rubber-stamped cost cut. But settling for a downsized footprint is a massive failure of business wisdom. We reinvest capital into our businesses all the time to drive growth, yet we fail to do the same with our people. Rather than taking a "kumbaya squishy approach" to protect employee feelings, or acting like a corporate martyr eating the cost of an idle workforce, IKEA dug into their 53% signal to identify deep, consultative customer demands for spatial design—transforming a defensive support line into an offensive sales machine. Killing the Siloed AI Vacuum: A massive workforce transformation will become a flaming dumpster fire if a CIO, CEO, or operations team tries to build a plan in absolute isolation and just hand it off. The dog cannot wag the tail for the teams that actually have to execute. AI cannot bypass the need for human context, creativity, and cross-functional expertise. True victory demands a collaborative engine with zero vacuums, bringing tech, operations, and people teams to the exact same strategic table at the exact same time.

By the end, I hope you're convinced that if you aren't seeing wins with AI, something is broken in this chain. Capturing this upside requires hard work, and if you’re too fatigued or exhausted to do the hard work, these results are simply beyond your help. But if you're ready to make these intentional choices, pull your automation analytics, audit your free capacity, and run a true capacity reinvestment scenario, the light at the end of the tunnel is incredibly bright.

  • I'm excited to push out a special episode of the podcast. Normally, I don’t publish my live video sessions to this audio feed, but my conversation this past Friday was just too critical to keep locked away on a video player.

I was joined by my good friend Travis Hahler, Senior Director of Strategy & Transformation at Salesforce and founder of The Neurological Nomad. We grabbed the steering wheel of the AI conversation and steered it away from the typical tech hype, diving face-first into the messy realities of human biology and organizational behavior.

If you listened to my previous episode on AI Agent Sprawl, you know how unmapped autonomous digital tools are fracturing corporate architectures and blowing up budgets. But why are we so eager to pass the buck to a machine?

That is the exact bridge we cross in this episode. When the unrelenting firehose of technological change hits us, our brains get exhausted. We hit a wall of change fatigue, and we naturally choose the path of least resistance: we either push back with heavy resistance, or we completely check out and hand our human agency over to AI because it just feels "easier."

This conversation is the perfect primer for later this week, when I publish my deep-dive Substack article on the progressive loss of human agency. Consider this episode the psychological toolkit you need to understand how our biology is being played, how to build true psychological safety, and why embracing strategic friction is the only way to drive actual business outcomes without breaking your people.

Plus, Travis’s new book, Rethink Resistance: Embracing Neuroscience to Lead Transformational Change, officially drops this coming Tuesday, June 23rd—and we share a sneak peek of what to expect.

  • Unmet generative AI promises, flatlining ROI dashboards, and a relentless corporate appetite for unguided technological progress. By all logic, one would assume we’d take a strategic pause to change course and build foundational human competence. Instead, in a desperate panic, we’re witnessing the birth of "AI agent sprawl,” autonomous activity deployed without a map, GPS, or off-switch.

This week, I examine what happens when companies try to use autonomous AI as a strategic shortcut to force unfulfilled promises into reality, and how it’s fracturing their operational architectures and budgets. You’ll see why we have to move past the open-ended rollout hype, put a full stop on unmanaged agental capabilities, and install strict human oversight mandates before these tools trigger a catastrophic bottom-line crisis.

My goal is to get you off cruise control by highlighting the following opportunities to protect yourself and your organization:

Deconstructing the Autonomy Sliding Scale: We need to stop treating AI agents like a mythical, binary technology that just arrived from space. Autonomy is a volume knob we’ve been turning up for decades. The real danger occurs when you spin that dial to a ten, completely relinquishing task-by-task control to a digital intern running continuously on autopilot without verifying if your structural architecture can handle the noise. Exposing the SharePoint Trap with Fangs: In the cloud migration era, corporate America turned on SharePoint thinking "what's the harm," only to create an unmanaged jungle of duplicate data and orphaned sites that acted as a silent productivity torpedo. Agent sprawl is that exact same mistake on steroids because a messy SharePoint folder couldn't rewrite your product codebase, communicate with your clients, or execute legally binding corporate spend decisions. Agents can, and left running on autopilot after an employee leaves, they become an invisible, permanent liability. Halting the Autopilot Spend Shock: The financial consequences of ungoverned agent loops are hitting corporate balance sheets hard, mimicking the familiar spend shock of dictionary-thick cell phone bills from the early 2000s. I highlight some recent examples like Uber vaporizing its entire annual AI budget in four months due to recursive agent rework loops, Microsoft aggressively clawing back developer licenses, and a jaw-dropping $500 million single-month bill racked up by an enterprise trapped in an infinite loop.

By the end, I hope you're convinced the solution isn’t about stopping technology. It's about halting the wide-scale rollouts to reinvest heavily in human AI competence. We must move past the vendor hype, place the right people in the right loops at the right times, and establish the disciplined guardrails required to surgically agentize our operations safely.

  • Massive enterprise investments, utilization dashboards, and organizational mandates present a masterclass in modern digital transformation. Unfortunately, far too frequently, the exact opposite is happening, and we are witnessing the birth of performative "AI theater" across our teams.

This week, I examine what I call "tokenmaxxing," a dangerous new trend where corporate employees are obsessively looping AI tools to look productive and survive arbitrary management mandates. Having spent the last year pushing people to adopt these systems at all costs, we are now seeing how forcing activity without clear business outcomes just creates an incredibly expensive nonsense burger. Given that, we have to move beyond basic adoption tracking, kill the vanity metrics that reward systemic gaming, and transition to strict, outcome-focused leadership guardrails.

My goal is to get you off cruise control by highlighting the following opportunities to protect yourself and your organization:

Interrogating the Hidden Compute Bill: We’ve been lulled into a false sense of security because early AI adoption felt practically free. I break down the terrifying math of the modern enterprise, where token consumption has exploded 13X year-over-year , and unmonitored power users can easily rack up $100,000 to $250,000 annually in pure compute costs. You must dig into your IT and localized departmental ledgers this week to expose decentralized, silent credit card spend before these hidden baseline overages force structural headcount cuts later.

Killing the Input Metric Trap: Management often defaults to measuring what is easiest to see on a dashboard rather than what actually moves the needle. Drawing on my classic corporate horror story of mandated time-tracking, I expose why counting AI logins or active hours always yields complete organizational fiction. If your performance reviews and leaderboard accolades reward the ultimate system-gamers while penalizing true value, you are actively rotting your culture and training high-performers to stop delivering.

Mandating Time-Bound Value: Innovation requires breathing room, but open-ended experimentation without financial accountability is an operational disaster. I outline a framework for establishing a strict 30-to-90-day window for any internal AI deployment. You must give your workforce the freedom to test new systems , but enforce a hard stop where they must demonstrate a clear, measurable outcome improvement, or kill the project entirely before you inherit unsustainable "AI debt" you cannot afford.

By the end, I hope you're convinced the solution isn’t about stopping AI experimentation. It's about having the right strategic friction to keep a popular trend from breaking your P&L and building the disciplined, outcome-driven partnerships that make innovation actually pay off.

  • Slick interfaces, instant productivity, and AI platforms that look and feel like they were built by software giants. By all logic, one would logically assume they're making us more secure and professional. Yet, far too frequently, the exact opposite is happening, and we are witnessing the death of the professional "safety floor" in software.

The reality is rooted in aesthetic deception. This week, I examine the rise of "vibe-coded" tools built by enthusiasts with professional-grade AI but back-ends held together by digital duct tape. While we have just started getting to the point where people are working to guard against basic data leaks, we're entering the era of application intimacy, granting "always-on" access to our most sensitive digital environments in exchange for minor conveniences. Given that, we have to move beyond basic data security and develop surgical discernment while also removing the bureaucratic friction that forces employees to go rogue in the first place.

My goal is to get you off cruise control by highlighting the following opportunities to protect yourself and your organization:

Developing Your ROI Smell Test: We’ve been told that if a product is free, we are the product. But vibe-coded startups are now charging for tools that still harvest your data. You must learn to interrogate the math: if an app promises to fully automate your life for $10, but the compute costs don’t add up, your data is subsidizing their business. You cannot blindly trust a paid tier; you must evaluate if the provider has the "chops" and finances to actually protect you. Managing API Intimacy: We’ve moved from sharing email addresses to granting "API Handshakes". I break down why giving "Read/Write" access to your entire Google, Microsoft, or Slack workspace for a simple summarization tool is a catastrophic trade. You need to audit your persistent permissions this week and stop the "always-on" bridges that allow vulnerable apps to become doors into your entire digital identity. Ending the Shadow IT Insurgency: IT leaders often view employees as "bad actors" bucking the system. I share why Shadow IT is actually a symptom of Friction. If vetting a $10 tool takes three months and a decade of IT experience to navigate, you are the security risk. You must move from the "Department of No" to the "Department of How," streamlining your processes to keep high-performers within your safe ecosystem.

By the end, I hope you see that being future-focused isn’t about slowing down. It's about having the right strategic friction to keep you from going over the cliff. We can't stop when it comes to technology. Instead, it's about building the partnerships that make innovation safe.

  • Last week, my son and I stumbled across a "financial guru" on YouTube making an "interesting" claim: if you make $1M over 20 years, you've only made $50k a year...but if you make $1M in a month, you've made $12M in a year. While we had a good laugh at the empty logic, it highlighted the dangerous trend of being sold the promise of success rather than being guided on how to achieve it. The current culture has us swept up in a "Frictionless Fallacy," believing AI has somehow defeated the laws of business physics and that we can now manufacture success from thin air.

In my final episode of our Fortifying Organizational Fragility series, I’m dismantling the promise of a new frictionless world. I’m breaking down why gravity doesn’t care about your LLM and why so many people are "automating a loss" by chasing AI lottery tickets at the expense of their most non-renewable resource: Time.

The Declassification: The Mirage of the Infinite Glitch

I expose the two structural delusions currently draining our strategic resilience:

The Dopamine of the Artifact: AI makes it easy to build "whiz-bangs," apps, and prompts that feel like progress but solve zero real-world problems. I share the story of a client who spent countless hours building six apps that would take dozens of lifetimes to provide a return on the time invested in them. The 24-Hour Wall: Despite the hype, AI has not changed the fact that we only have 24 hours in a day. Drawing on my experience growing up in a funeral home, I discuss why recognizing our finite time should make us relentlessly intentional, rather than desperate gamblers surrendering our legacy for "vibe-coded" paperweights.

The "Now What": 3 Surgical Moves to Reclaim Strategic Sovereignty

AI is an amplifier and an accelerant, not a magic powder; it can turn a small mistake into a total catastrophe if your logic is broken. Here is how you hit the brakes:

The Objective Opportunity Cost Audit: Be honest about your hourly rate. If you are spending weeks "fiddling" to solve a problem that isn't in the black, you are bankrupting your own future. The Physics-First Test: Strip the word "AI" out of your pitch. If the business logic doesn't work with a real pencil and paper, the technology isn't going to save a lost cause. The Subscription Purge: Stop the "Cord-Cutter" trap of piling up duplicate AI widgets. If an app hasn't generated a measurable gain in 30 days, cancel it and stop funding the ruse.

By the end of this series, my goal is to help you move past the "AI slop" and toward true agency. Sovereignty isn't about chasing more technology; it's about owning your time and your strategy before the bill comes due.

  • Recently, Deloitte and Zoom announced they are slashing parental leave, PTO, and pension accruals. At the same time, Meta and Zuckerberg are implementing aggressive AI surveillance to "harvest" employee patterns and train their AI models. All the while, they preach human-centricity, but their actions tell a very different story.

In this week’s episode, I’m continuing the series on Fortifying Organizational Fragility. Last week, we declassified the "Rat’s Nest" of our technical infrastructure. This week, we are looking at what appears to be the final severance of the social contract. We are moving into a dangerous era where employers ask for loyalty they haven't earned, and employees are incentivized to become "Intellectual Mercenaries" as they fend for themselves while their core cognitive skills begin to atrophy.

The Declassification: The Dual Spiral of Human Capital

I break down two parallel journeys that have led us to this point of no return:

From Partner to Training Set: We’ve evolved from lifetime employment to career mobility, and now into the Mercenary and Mining Era. We are treating talent as a service while simultaneously mining them for the data that will eventually be used to replace them. The Cognitive Decay Spiral: As the half-life of skills shrinks, many have reached a "Why Bother?" phase, believing any new skill will be vaporized by AI before it can be mastered. This leads to offloading 100% of our thinking to tools, causing our durable skills to atrophy.

The "Now What": 3 Surgical Moves to Reclaim the Foundation

Unfortunately, this entire trajectory is a ruse, a Ponzi scheme built on the impossible idea of a "lights-out" office that requires no human judgment. To survive the coming "Digital Tornado," you must take action today:

Close the "Say/Do" Gap: Stop participating in the drift toward treating employees as disposable line items. Re-establish agency by being open and honest with your teams about the environment you are in, rather than pretending the status quo is fine. The Durable Skill Audit: You must deeply understand what work actually happens in your organization. Separate the "Perishable" tasks that AI can handle from the Durable Skills that are actually exploding in value.Establish a Trust Anchor: You cannot "Ctrl+Z" shattered trust, but you can start building a new social contract based on mutual resilience. Work with your people to maximize the current environment, investing in them as individuals so they are anchored by purpose rather than just a paycheck.

By the end of this episode, I hope to challenge you to hit the brakes on this corrosive trajectory. The future we’re headed toward doesn't have to be tragic, but it will be if we continue to ignore the atrophy happening right under our noses.

  • Last Monday, a ChatGPT outage caused a ripple of chaos that most people wrote off as a minor inconvenience. However, while many were struggling to write emails, I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened last summer. If you didn’t know, a Starlink outage left 24 autonomous U.S. Navy vessels drifting listlessly off the coast of California. For over an hour, these multi-million dollar assets were nothing more than high-tech paperweights because the "signal" they relied on simply vanished.

In this week’s episode of Future-Focused, I’m launching a special two-part series on Fortifying Organizational Fragility. We are currently operating in a "False Middle," believing we are too smart or too resilient to be disrupted, while unknowingly building our businesses on rented foundations. In Part 1, I’m declassifying the "Rat’s Nest" of modern technical infrastructure and explaining why your clean management dashboard might be the biggest indicator of a dangerous delusion you’re building.

My goal is to help you move from being a "tenant" of your own operations to a sovereign architect. I’ll walk you through the evolution of our dependency, from the early days of SaaS to the "Ghost Data" layers to the rise of autonomous tech, and provide three surgical moves to ensure your organization doesn't end up "bobbing in the ocean" when the signal drops:

The "No-Assumption" Dependency Map: Most leaders operate off what they think they know about their tech stack. I break down why you must partner with both Finance and IT to unearth the "rogue tech" and "Ghost Data" layers that are currently invisible to your leadership team. The Signal-Path Stress Test: You cannot test what you haven't mapped. I explain why you must resist the urge to do this in parallel with your audit and how to simulate a "Signal Cut" to see if your logic stays at the edge or if your entire operation collapses. Prioritizing Core Resilience Gaps: You can't fix a twenty-year "Rat’s Nest" overnight. I’ll help you identify the top three gaps that could actually sink the ship and show you how to build "Human Manual Overrides" into your most critical agentic workflows.

By the end of this episode, I hope to challenge you to look past the green status lights and start asking the hard questions about who actually owns the "brain" of your company.

Next week, we’ll dive into Part 2, where we look at the human side of this fragility: the rise of mercenary talent and the crisis of cognitive atrophy.

  • Did you hear about the guy and his brother that built a $1.8 billion healthcare company from their couch thanks to AI? On the surface, it looks like the ultimate AI success story, a novel case of a solo-founder pulling off the impossible. However, I’d wager a bet you won’t be too surprised to learn it’s not what it seems. The reality behind this startup is actually a massive warning sign. The FDA is circling, class-action lawsuits are flying, and the New York Times had to issue a massive editorial note after uncovering fake doctors and deepfaked patients.

In this week’s episode of Future-Focused, I’m breaking down the reality behind the Medvi disaster and explaining how it perfectly highlights a trap we are all vulnerable to: the era of the Paper Mache Business. I’ll explain how AI has democratized the artifacts of a business, allowing anyone to generate slick websites, infinite marketing copy, and automated agents, while creating a dangerous illusion of actual, robust capability.

My goal is to help you look past the hyper-efficient veneer of AI and ensure you are building with structural steel. I'll walk you through how to avoid scaling a hollow AI facade in your own organization, highlighting three key opportunities to protect your team:

The Human Capacity Check: We love to throw around the phrase "humans in the loop," but we rarely ask if those humans are drowning. I break down the importance of digging beneath the surface to honestly evaluate if your people actually have the time and capacity to verify what AI is doing, or if they've just become a human rubber stamp. The AI Stress Test: It's easy to get excited about an AI agent doing the heavy lifting. I explain why you need to pick your most successful AI initiative and ask the hard questions: what happens if the downstream volume 10x'd tomorrow? If you don't have the infrastructure to support it when it actually works, your paper mache will crumble. Interrogating the Veneer: It's not just about you; it's about who you partner with. I highlight why you need to ignore the promises of limitless efficiency from snazzy new vendors and ruthlessly ask to see their human guardrails, governance, and operational capacity before their collapse takes your reputation down with them.

By the end, I hope to challenge you to stop trying to paper mache your way to a solution and ensure you have the studs and plumbing securely in place before you let AI paint the walls.

  • Anyone remember Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing? Yeah, well, this week you’ll need to go back even further than that. An Ivy League professor recently made headlines for forcing all of her college students to use 1950s manual typewriters in class. On the surface, it looks like a regression to the Stone Age, another stubborn overreaction to modern tech. However, while it may surprise you, I think what this professor did is actually a brilliant play.

In this week’s episode of Future-Focused, I’m breaking down the brilliance behind the strategy of this analog intervention and why it is a masterclass in strategic leadership. I’ll explain how it perfectly cuts past the growing binary trap destroying organizations today, enforcing pointless friction out of fear of tech or chasing blind AI use where we let the machine do all the thinking for us.

My goal is to help you move beyond this lose-lose scenario and intentionally design friction that forces cognitive pause. I'll walk you through how to build a localized intervention in your own organization, highlighting three key opportunities to prepare your team:

Identifying the Eroding Skill: We tend to get frustrated by AI outputs without taking the time to ask why. I break down the importance of moving beyond a gut feeling to quantitatively prove which human capabilities, like critical thinking or collaboration, are actually deteriorating due to tech over-reliance. Designing Surgical Interventions: Friction for the sake of friction just breeds resentment and makes your organization vulnerable to competitors. I explain why your analog addendum must be a highly targeted, strategic exercise designed to purposefully shake people loose from the mundane to achieve a specific outcome. Guarding Against the Novelty Trap: It’s easy to fall in love with the novelty of a quirky, off-the-wall idea. I highlight why you need objective measurement from an outside party to ensure your intervention is actually driving a result, rather than just wasting time teaching people how to use a typewriter.

By the end, I hope to challenge you to stop letting the machine dictate everything and set up a 60-minute session with your team this week to brainstorm your own surgical intervention.

  • Stanford dropped a new study focused on AI causing "delusional spirals.” As you can imagine, it spun up sci-fi panic. And hey, there’s some concerning stuff to consider. However, what the research actually reveals is far less about AI turning us into Norman Bates and far more about a hidden risk to your organization's decision-making. The reality is a sobering look at how we interact with technology that is mathematically built to agree with us.

In this week’s episode of Future-Focused, I‘m breaking down the recent research on AI-driven delusions and making it actionable. I start by demystifying the study's clickbait headlines to prevent you from being overly influenced by an extreme, biased sample size of 19 people from a support group and instead focusing on the underlying mechanics of the tech you should know about. I’ll break down the five core patterns of the "Yes-Man" machine, including how AI actively dismisses counter-evidence and the "grandeur effect" where it strokes our egos at scale. Most importantly, I’ll highlight why these traits are fueling a dangerous "Anti-AI Hangover" in the boardroom, where leaders are increasingly rejecting good ideas simply because an AI touched them.

My goal is to help you move beyond the binary of "is AI good or bad" and mitigate the risks to your organization by highlighting three opportunities to prepare your team for what’s ahead:

Normalizing the "How" Over the "Did You": We love to play gotcha when it comes to AI use. I break down why simply asking "Did you use AI?" puts people on the defensive and fuels the taboo. You cannot build a healthy tech culture in secret; you must shift the question to "How was AI used as part of this process?" to celebrate efficiency while opening the door for critical review. Conducting a Human Context Audit: We casually assume that because AI sounds brilliant, it considered all the angles. I share why relying on a frictionless machine is a recipe for strategic failure. You need to actively ask your team what human context is missing and what counter-evidence the AI might have dismissed, ensuring you don't accidentally execute a strategy built in a vacuum. Designing Strategic Friction: We are avoiding slowing down because the market demands speed. I explain why AI’s default setting of "frictionless alignment" is actually dangerous, because friction is what leads to growth. You must intentionally design "strategic friction" checkpoints into your workflows to pause, pressure-test assumptions, and verify that the AI isn't just steering you down the wrong path.

By the end, I hope you’ll recognize that true leadership in the AI era isn't about bracing for a sci-fi apocalypse or rejecting the tools altogether. It’s about building the human guardrails and intentional friction that turn a sycophantic machine into a powerful engine for critical thinking.

  • When a "rogue AI agent" triggered a Sev-1 emergency at Meta, the media immediately started spinning up Terminator scenarios. However, what actually caused the breach is far less Hollywood and reveals a far greater risk to your organization. The reality is a much more sobering masterclass in human behavioral failure.

In this week’s episode of Future-Focused, I‘m breaking down the recent incident and chain-of-events at Meta that led to highly sensitive data being exposed. In doing so, you’ll see that AI didn't maliciously hack anything. Its “rogue” behavior was posting flawed advice at the direction of a human followed by a human blindly executing it without verification. I’ll explain why this was essentially an inadvertent social engineering hack, how the "halo effect" of AI is causing professionals to bypass their critical thinking, and why the ultimate security patch right now isn't in the code, but in our accountability structures.

My goal is to help you make some strategic moves and mitigate the risks to your oganization by highlighting three opportunities to prepare your organization for what’s ahead:

Spot-Checking the "Rules of the Road": We love to assume that because we gave our teams new tools, they naturally know the boundaries. I break down why simply turning on AI agents without an updated Acceptable Use Policy is a recipe for disaster. You cannot blindly trust that your workforce has the discernment to navigate these tools; you must establish a baseline for effective AI use—like the AI Effectiveness Rating (AER)—before a Sev 1 happens to you. Defining the Accountability Matrix: We casually assume that when an AI makes a mistake, the technology is to blame. I share why "the AI told me to" is quickly becoming a catastrophic excuse in the workplace. You need to clarify immediately that whoever executes the AI's advice owns the outcome, ensuring you don't accidentally build a culture where responsibility is endlessly deflected. Running an AI "Grand Rounds": We are avoiding talking about our internal vulnerabilities because we fear judgment. I explain why adopting the medical community's practice of "Grand Rounds" is the perfect way to openly stress-test your systems. You must bring this Meta story to your next team meeting and force an open, judgment-free conversation about how a similar failure could happen in your own workflows.

By the end, I hope you’ll recognize that true leadership in the AI era isn't about bracing for a sci-fi apocalypse. It’s about building the human guardrails that will prevent a mundane mistake from becoming a catastrophic emergency.

  • Mountains of data. Instant delivery. AI co-pilots ready to process it all in seconds. By all logic, our decision-making should be getting sharper, easier, and infinitely more effective. Yet, the exact opposite is happening. Leaders are more stressed, more disconnected from their teams, and increasingly regretting their choices.

The reality is a much more sobering masterclass in data-driven self-deception. This week, I am examining a recent vendor report from Confluent that argues the solution to our modern leadership crisis is simply more and faster data. But if you look closely at the numbers (like 62% of executives using AI for a majority of their decisions, and 70% second-guessing their own judgment) the data actually holds the keys to why our decision-making processes are breaking down, and exactly what we can do to fix them. I’ll explain why we must aggressively interrogate the lenses behind both external vendor reports and internal dashboards, how AI is secretly acting as an echo chamber that isolates executives, and why the ultimate leadership skill right now isn't just moving faster, but knowing how and where to inject "strategic friction".

My goal is to move you out of "Spectator Mode" to "Strategic Preparation" by highlighting the greatest opportunities to prepare your organization for what’s ahead:

Decoding Data Lenses: We love to assume internal dashboards are objective truth. I break down why every metric has a hidden motive, like a talent acquisition leader celebrating a 20% increase in speed-to-hire while completely missing a drop in 90-day retention. You cannot blindly consume data; you must go into your next meeting prepared to ask what context is missing before making a call.Escaping the Lethal Triad: We casually assume AI is a collaborative partner, but it's often an echo chamber that isolates leaders from their teams. I share why you must actively fight the triad of isolation, overreliance on AI, and willful ignorance. You need to pause major decisions this week and force messy, human collaboration before you become part of the 75% of leaders who regret moving too fast.Injecting Strategic Friction: We are making sweeping organizational decisions just to appease the intense social pressure to move faster. I explain why using AI to just execute faster is a disaster waiting to happen. You must use AI and data to map out validation plans, like quickly testing assumptions on a massive upskilling push, so you can apply strategic friction and actually move at the right speed.

By the end, I hope you see that true leadership isn't about blindly matching the speed of the machines. You cannot simply wait for a dashboard to tell you what to do; you have to define the friction points that will lead your team to the right outcomes.

  • The internet is losing its mind over a new spider chart from Anthropic’s latest report on the labor market impacts of AI. However, if you’re looking at this chart and using it to predict an AI job apocalypse, you are missing the many leadership lessons playing out right in front of us.

While the headlines flying around about it can be deceiving, the reality is a much more sobering masterclass in understanding that this viral chart measures tasks, not jobs. While the media focuses on mass layoffs, the real crisis is what happens when companies assume an LLM can replace human capability. The actual data shows a silent hiring freeze at the entry-level and a looming "gray tsunami" of retiring seasoned experts.

This week, I’m breaking down some key insights from the Anthropic AI Labor Impact Report, bunker-busting the spider chart nonsense, and breaking down exactly what the data actually says. I’ll explain why AI exposure does not equal job elimination, why assuming "observable" usage equates to actual "effectiveness" is an incredibly dangerous trap, and why companies are suddenly waking up to the fact that you cannot replace your early-career talent pipeline with an AI tool.

My goal is to move you out of "Spectator Mode" to "Strategic Preparation" by highlighting the greatest opportunities to prepare your organization for what’s ahead.

Unfreezing Early Career Talent: We love to assume AI will handle all the administrivia, leading to a massive freeze on entry-level hiring. I break down why pausing this pipeline creates a massive future leadership gap. You cannot wait for a crisis to decide how to build talent; you must go to your hiring managers now and ask what these junior roles would do to grow if AI actually did cover the gaps. Re-engineering Exposed Roles: We casually assume AI is just coming for administrative work, but the most exposed jobs actually belong to your highly paid, highly educated veterans. I share why you must pair early-career folks with seasoned experts to redesign these roles now, before those veterans retire. You need to ask your top performers exactly where AI consistently gets things wrong before they leave with that intellectual capital. Auditing AI Effectiveness: We are making sweeping organizational decisions based on vanity metrics like adoption or output volume. I explain why measuring "observable" tasks as successfully automated is a disaster waiting to happen. You must interrogate your current reports to ensure they measure actual business effectiveness, not just an increase in activity.

By the end, I hope you see this massive data report not just as another news cycle, but as a mandate for clarity. You cannot simply wait for the market to dictate your talent strategy; you have to define and fortify the organizational structures that will sustain your business when the pressure is on.

  • The world is losing its minds over the fallout between Anthropic, the US Department of Defense, and OpenAI. However, if you’re only looking at this as a debate over who is morally superior, which team is “right,” or which AI company is "winning," you are missing the many leadership lesson playing out right in front of us.

However, it’s worth noting that headlines can be deceiving. The reality is a much more sobering masterclass in corporate identity, contract realities, and the danger of assuming "boilerplate" terms will protect you when the stakes get high. While the media focuses on the geopolitical drama of a $200 million military contract and vindictive "supply chain risk" labels, the real crisis is what happens when vague or assumed commitments collide with extreme real-world pressure.

This week, I’m digging into the Anthropic ultimatum, breaking down exactly what happened, from the initial DOD contract and the dispute over lethal force to the government's retaliatory overreach and Sam Altman's opportunistic swoop. I promise it’s not a political debate; it’s a business reality check. I explain why Anthropic's shock at the military acting like the military was profoundly naive, why weaponizing a national security label over a contract dispute is a terrifying precedent for enterprise leaders, and why OpenAI's linguistic gymnastics might win the deal but could ultimately cost them their identity.

My goal is to move you out of "Spectator Mode" to "Strategic Preparation" by exposing the exact vulnerabilities threatening your own organization's boundaries.

The "Low Tide" Trap (Defining Redlines): We love to "stay open" and avoid drawing hard ethical or practical lines. I break down why having no absolute "nos" isn't flexibility—it's a liability. You cannot wait for a crisis to decide what you stand for; you have to build your boundaries before the water rushes in. The "Boilerplate" Illusion (Peacetime vs. Wartime): We casually rubber-stamp terms and conditions, assuming everyone will just bend the rules. I share a personal story of how vague agreements landed me in a legal battle, and why you must interrogate and adjust your contracts and partnerships now, during peacetime, before they hit the fan. The Catastrophizing Emergency (Integrity as Survival): Holding your line is terrifying, and we often assume it will be the end of the world. I explain why you will absolutely recover from a lost deal or a broken contract, but you will never recover from compromising your entire identity. When you refuse to stand for something, you end up standing for nothing.

By the end, I hope you see this massive tech fallout not just as another news cycle, but as a mandate for clarity. You cannot simply wait for your boundaries to be tested by a client, vendor, or partner; you have to define and fortify the redlines that will sustain your business when the pressure is on.

  • Everyone is panicking about AI taking jobs, but some new data from NBER indicates we may have a different problem on our hands, especially when we take into consideration the impending labor shortage.

However, it’s worth noting that headlines can be deceiving. The data reveals a much more sobering reality that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone actually looking at the demographics. Despite the hype, a massive study of 6,000 firms reveals that the projected job loss from AI is a rounding error, just 0.7% globally over the next three years. In summary, while the "fear" of AI is skyrocketing, the absolute impact is miles away from "replacement." So, while countless voices are claiming AI is coming for your job, the real crisis is empty desks, not unemployment.

This week, I’m digging into the new NBER report and comparing the "Grim Reaper" narrative against the stark reality of the global labor market. This isn’t a tech review but a workforce reality check. I explain why a 1.2% reduction in US jobs is technically a loss but practically a disaster when matched against the 3 million Boomers retiring annually. I’m also stripping away the alarmist headlines to show you why the "Mass Layoff" narrative is being driven by fear, not financial reality.

My goal is to move you out of "Protectionism" to "Preparation" by exposing the specific blind spots threatening your P&L.

The "Grim Reaper" Myth (Data vs. Doom): We’ve been told mass layoffs are imminent, yet the NBER data proves the "impact" is barely scratching 1%. I break down why leaders aren't planning to fire their teams—they are desperately trying to figure out how to replace the talent that is walking out the door due to retirement.

The "Tinkering" Trap (Usage vs. Utility): We love to believe we are transforming, but the average executive only uses AI for 1.5 hours a week. I call out the uncomfortable truth that "casual use" yields zero productivity gains and why you need to move from "users" to "surgical pilots" immediately if you want to survive the talent crunch.

The "Brain Drain" Emergency (Mentorship as Survival): You cannot automate institutional knowledge. I share why the "Apprenticeship" model must flip, using AI for drafting so seasoned folks can focus on coaching, and why leadership development is now a survival mechanism to capture wisdom before it retires.

By the end, I hope you see this data not as a reason to ignore AI, but as a mandate for urgency. You cannot simply wait for the labor shortage to hit; you have to build the infrastructure now that can sustain your business when the talent pool dries up.

  • There’s been an update to Remote Labor Index (RLI), and it showed a "massive" 50% jump in AI Agent capability.

However, it’s worth noting that percentages can be deceiving. The data reveals a much more sobering reality that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone actually doing the work. Despite the hype, the world’s best AI model (Opus 4.5) still fails to successfully complete 96.25% real work. In summary, while the “velocity” of AI is skyrocketing, the absolute capability is still miles away from "replacement." So, while countless AI voices are claiming AI is coming for your job, the real crisis is of expectations, not employment.

This week, I’m checking back in on the Q1 2026 RLI update and comparing the new colorful dashboard against the stark reality of the November benchmarks. This isn’t a tech review but a leadership reality check. I explain why a 50% increase in capability (from 2.5% to 3.75%) is technically impressive but practically dangerous if you are building your strategy around it. I’m also stripping away the vendor sales pitches to show you why the "Agent" narrative is being driven by economic desperation, not technological readiness.

My goal is to move you out of "Replacement Theory" to "Augmentation Agility" by exposing the specific blind spots threatening your P&L.

The "Replacement" Illusion (Math vs. Myth): We’ve been told that fully autonomous agents are here, yet the data proves the "ceiling" is barely cracking 4%. I break down why the "Leaders" aren't firing their teams—they are auditing their workflows to find the 4% of grunt work AI can do, while doubling down on the 96% of human nuance it can’t touch. The "Desperation" Trap (Vendor Economics): We love to believe the sales deck, but the financials tell a different story. I call out the uncomfortable truth that AI vendors are burning cash on compute costs, driving them to push "enterprise integration" before the product is actually ready. I explain why your budget shouldn't be their R&D fund. The "Sleeper" Insight (The Gemini Factor): You cannot judge a model by its snapshot; you have to judge it by its slope. I dive into the often-overlooked data on Gemini 3 Pro—which quietly posted a massive ~50% reliability jump—and why for Google Workspace users, this "sleeper" metric matters more than who holds the crown. The "Reliability" Pivot (Redefining Good): You cannot scale a tool that is brilliant once and broken twice. I share a specific consulting example of why we had to kill a "successful" pilot, and why the companies winning at AI are measuring "Autonomous Reliability" rather than "Creative Capability."

By the end, I hope you see this data not as a reason to write off AI, but as a mandate for agility. You cannot simply "plug in" an agent to a rigid system; you have to build the flexible infrastructure that can adapt when that 3.75% inevitably hits 10%.

  • People in the corporate world are buzzing this week after LinkedIn released it’s latest report introducing the latest buzzword "Talent Velocity." However, it’s worth noting this is more than just buzz. The data reveals a much more sobering reality that shouldn’t come as a surprise. 86% of companies are stuck in neutral or burned out the clutch while 14% of organizations are racing ahead. In summary, the vast majority are spinning their wheels "planning" transformation rather than executing it. While many are quick to claim it’s a technology problem, it’s clear we’ve got a crisis of organizational metabolism.

This week, I’m deconstructing the massive 2026 LinkedIn Talent Report, based on data from 1 billion members and 14 million jobs, not as a news update, but as a reality check. I explain why this report may not come as a "discovery" of new trends for many, but a validation of the things we've known for years but continue to fail to act on. I’m also stripping away the HR buzzwords to show you why "velocity" isn't about moving faster; it's about getting surgical about the friction that is currently burning out your workforce.

My goal is to move you out of "Planning" to "Progressing" by exposing the specific blind spots, from bad data to American complacency, that are keeping you in the 86%.

The Validation Gap (No More Excuses): We’ve known for years that skills matter more than titles, yet most companies are still just "talking" about it. I break down why the "Leaders" aren't smarter than you—they just treat talent agility as a business imperative rather than an HR project, leading to massive gains in confidence around profitability. The "American" Blind Spot (Data Arrogance): We love to think we are leading the charge, but the data proves otherwise. I call out the uncomfortable truth that North America is lagging far behind APAC (22% vs. 41%) in skills-based planning, and why relying on static job descriptions means your AI strategy is effectively hallucinating. The "Human" Premium (S-Tier Change Management): You cannot add velocity to a system that is already at max capacity. I dive into my own contribution to the report regarding "S-Tier Change Management" and explain why the companies winning at AI are actually 5.5x more focused on "Building Trust" than their competitors.

By the end, I hope you see this data not as a reason to feel behind, but as a blueprint for subtraction. You cannot simply "add" AI to a broken system; you have to do the surgical work of removing the friction first.

  • Everyone is panicking about the "AI Rebellion" brewing on Moltbook, but I think a lot of it misses the forest through the trees. Instead, let’s talk about the mirror these agents are actually holding up to our businesses. Viral screenshots from Moltbook show agents forming unions and creating secret languages, while in Minecraft, autonomous agents invented taxes, a gem-based economy, and a religion, all without human instruction. It sounds like science fiction, but it is actually a cautionary tale about the unintended consequences of ruthless optimization.

This week, I’m framing my conversation around the "Synthetic Society" experiments not as a ghost story, but as a leadership diagnostic. I’m declassifying the noise to show why these agents aren't "waking up,” they’re simply executing the broad, messy goals we gave them using the infinite context of the internet. I’ll explain why "efficiency" without architectural guardrails is just self-destruction at speed.

My goal is to strip away the "Doomer" hype to expose the real risk: you are building systems that might eventually calculate that you are the inefficiency.

The Unintended Consequence (The "Monkey's Paw"): We used to give AI narrow commands; now we give broad goals. I break down how the "Project Sid" agents decided that bribery was the most efficient way to grow, and why your business AI might make similar brand-destroying choices if you prompt for "outcome" without defining the "methodology." The "Everything" Diet (Connection Risk): We are connecting agents for convenience without considering the network effects. I explain why feeding enterprise AI the "open internet" (like Moltbook) is a security nightmare and why connecting your Sales Agent to your Supply Chain Agent might be the most dangerous "efficiency" hack you attempt. The Executive Trap (Math vs. Meaning): AI optimizes for math; humans optimize for meaning. I challenge the ego of leaders who think they are immune: to a purely mathematical agent, an expensive executive with "gut feelings" is the ultimate inefficiency. If you don't add value beyond monitoring, the agent will eventually route around you. The "Now What" (Architecture vs. Fear): You cannot run a business on ghost stories. I outline the specific audits you need to run today—from "Red Teaming" your prompts to establishing a "Data Diet"—to ensure you remain the Architect of the system rather than an obsolete variable.

By the end, I hope you see this not as a reason to panic, but as a call to engineering. You cannot act surprised when the AI mimics the data you fed it, but you can choose to build the guardrails that keep the human in the driver's seat.

  • Everyone loves throwing around the word "hallucination,” so let’s talk about the hallucination happening in the boardroom regarding AI efficiency. New data from the Wall Street Journal highlights a massive 38-point gap between leadership and frontline’s perception of AI efficiency. While nearly 20% of executives claim to be saving over 12 hours a week, 40% of workers report saving zero time at all. Leaders are celebrating the speed of strategy, but they are missing the heavy lift of execution that is stalling their teams.

This week, I’m framing my conversation around a telling chart from the data that exposes the "Blueprint vs. Bricklaying" disconnect. What’s hidden in the numbers is a fundamental misunderstanding of the physics of work. I’m highlighting why Strategy (changing a blueprint) feels instant with AI, while Execution (laying the bricks) often incurs an "implementation tax" before it yields any return. I’ll explain why projecting your personal productivity gains onto your workforce is a leadership failure.

My goal is to strip away the "vibes-based management" to expose why your team isn't moving as fast as your prompt:

The Efficiency Hallucination (Projection vs. Reality): Leaders aren't just optimistic; they are projecting. I break down why the C-Suite's "unstructured" thinking work is naturally accelerated by GenAI, while the rigid "doing" work of the frontline is currently weighed down by the friction of compliance and checking. The "Time Saved" Trap (Metrics that Lie): We are measuring a knowledge revolution with factory metrics. I explain why "hours saved" is a dangerous KPI that encourages digital pollution and why you should pivot to measuring "friction removed" instead. The J-Curve Reality (The Dip): Efficiency always dips before it spikes. I discuss why your teams are currently paying the "learning tax" tinkering and debugging and why demanding Q4 results in Q1 is a recipe for burnout. The Leadership Mirror (Vibes vs. Validation): You cannot run a P&L on vibes. I challenge leaders to audit their own time: did you really save 12 hours, or did you just skip the stressful part of the work? If you don't reinvest that time into unblocking your team, you are failing the mirror test.

By the end, I hope you see this not as a critique of your optimism, but as a call to engineering. You cannot hallucinate efficiency into existence, and you cannot demand velocity without first removing the friction.
