  • The Pharisees have done all they can to get rid of Jesus and they thought that they had finally won. That is, until the 3rd day, the Sunday, when an angel rolled the stone of the tomb away. The Pharisees made up a story, but the story we celebrate on Easter Sunday is the one we heard from the disciples and the women about Jesus coming alive again. But which story do you believe? Tune in to hear the story of the risen Jesus from the Pharisees' perspective!

Bible Passage: Matthew 23:27-28You Pharisees and teachers are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You're like tombs that have been whitewashed. On the outside they are beautiful, but inside they are full of bones and filth. That's what you are like. Outside you look good, but inside you are evil and only pretend to be good.
Bible Passage: Matthew 28:1-15The Sabbath was over, and it was almost daybreak on Sunday when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 Suddenly a strong earthquake struck, and the Lord's angel came down from heaven. He rolled away the stone and sat on it. 3 The angel looked as bright as lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards shook from fear and fell down, as though they were dead.5 The angel said to the women, “Don't be afraid! I know you are looking for Jesus, who was nailed to a cross. 6 He isn't here! God has raised him to life, just as Jesus said he would. Come, see the place where his body was lying. 7 Now hurry! Tell his disciples he has been raised to life and is on his way to Galilee. Go there, and you will see him. This is what I came to tell you.”8 The women were frightened and yet very happy, as they hurried from the tomb and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them and greeted them. They went near him, held on to his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said, “Don't be afraid! Tell my followers to go to Galilee. They will see me there.”11 While the women were on their way, some soldiers who had been guarding the tomb went into the city. They told the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 So the chief priests met with the leaders and decided to bribe the soldiers with a lot of money. 13 They said to the soldiers, “Tell everyone that Jesus' disciples came during the night and stole his body while you were asleep. 14 If the governor[a] hears about this, we will talk to him. You won't have anything to worry about.” 15 The soldiers took the money and did what they were told. The people of Judea still tell each other this story.
    Today's Questions:

How do you work out whether what you hear is true or lies? How can this story be a comfort to you when you think about death and how might this story bring you sorrow when you think about death? Scientists might say that coming alive again after dying 3 days later is impossible. What might you say to them?
  • This episode is all about Jesus death on the cross and how he was in charge the whole time, drinking the cup that God had set out for him.

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

    Bible Passage: Matthew 26:69-75

Peter began to curse and swear, “I don't know that man!”

Right then a rooster crowed, 75 and Peter remembered that Jesus had said, “Before a rooster crows, you will say three times you don't know me.” Then Peter went out and cried bitterly.”

    Bible Passage: Luke 22:63-65

“The men in charge of Jesus began poking fun at him, slapping him around. They put a blindfold on him and taunted, “Who hit you that time?” They were having a grand time with him.”

    Bible Passage: John 19:19-22

    It read:

    Jesus the Nazarene
    the king of the jews.

Many of the Jews read the sign because the place where Jesus was crucified was right next to the city. It was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. The Jewish high priests objected. “Don’t write,” they said to Pilate, “‘The King of the Jews.’ Make it, ‘This man said, “I am the King of the Jews.”’”

Pilate said, “What I’ve written, I’ve written.”

    Bible Passage: Luke 23:39-46

One of the criminals hanging alongside cursed him: “Some Messiah you are! Save yourself! Save us!”

But the other one made him shut up: “Have you no fear of God? You’re getting the same as him. We deserve this, but not him—he did nothing to deserve this.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you enter your kingdom.” He said, “Don’t worry, I will. Today you will join me in paradise.”

    Bible Passage: Mark 15:1-47

Along with Jesus, they crucified two criminals, one to his right, the other to his left. People passing along the road jeered, shaking their heads in mock lament: “You bragged that you could tear down the Temple and then rebuild it in three days—so show us your stuff! Save yourself! If you’re really God’s Son, come down from that cross!”

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

    Bible Passage: Mark 14:32-42

Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane. Which is a place at the bottom of the Mount of Olives. Jesus went here often, enough times for Judas to know where they would be....

    Bible Passage: Matthew 26:55-56

Jesus said to the mob, “Why do you come with swords and clubs to arrest me like a criminal? Day after day I sat and taught in the temple, and you didn't arrest me. 56 But all this happened, so that what the prophets wrote would come true.”

All Jesus' disciples left him and ran away.

    Bible Passage: John 18:3-11

3-5 Judas had promised to betray Jesus. So he went to the garden with some Roman soldiers and temple police, who had been sent by the chief priests and the Pharisees. They carried torches, lanterns, and weapons. Jesus already knew everything that was going to happen, but he asked, “Who are you looking for?” They answered, “We are looking for Jesus from Nazareth!”...

    Bible Passage: Luke 22:51

51 “Enough of that!” Jesus said. Then he touched the servant's ear and healed it.

    Bible Passage: Mark 14:50-52

50 All of Jesus' disciples ran off and left him. 51 One of them was a young man who was wearing only a linen cloth. And when the men grabbed him, 52 he left the cloth behind and ran away naked.

    Today's Questions:

What do you do when you don’t want to do something that you have to do? What do you think might have happened to the world if God had told Jesus that he would take the cup away and that he didn’t have to die for the world’s sins?
  • So much happened during Jesus' last meal at the Passover feast. Jesus taught, he prophesied and he washed their feet. This episode includes it all but focuses on Jesus' servant attitude. Why does he aim to serve and why does he want us to do the same? Listen to this episode to start thinking about these things!

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

    Bible Passage: Luke 22:7-16

The Day of Unleavened Bread came, the day the Passover lamb was butchered. Jesus sent Peter and John off, saying, “Go prepare the Passover for us so we can eat it together.”

9 They said, “Where do you want us to do this?”

10-12 He said, “Keep your eyes open as you enter the city. A man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him home. Then speak with the owner of the house: The Teacher wants to know, ‘Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?’ He will show you a spacious second-story room, swept and ready. Prepare the meal there.”

13 They left, found everything just as he told them, and prepared the Passover meal.

14-16 When it was time, he sat down, all the apostles with him, and said, “You’ve no idea how much I have looked forward to eating this Passover meal with you before I enter my time of suffering. It’s the last one I’ll eat until we all eat it together in the kingdom of God.”

    Bible Passage: Luke 22:17-20

17-18 Taking the cup, he blessed it, then said, “Take this and pass it among you. As for me, I’ll not drink wine again until the kingdom of God arrives.” 19 Taking bread, he blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, given for you. Eat it in my memory.” 20 He did the same with the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant written in my blood, blood poured out for you.

    Bible Passage: John 13:34

“But I am giving you a new command. You must love each other, just as I have loved you.”

    Bible Passage: John 14:6

“I am the way, the truth, and the life!” Jesus answered. “Without me, no one can go to the Father.

    Bible Passage: John 14:38

“I tell you for certain before a rooster crows, you will say three times that you don't even know me.”

    Bible Passage: John 15:1

    I am the true vine.”

    Bible Passage: Luke 22:24-28

”Within minutes they were bickering over who of them would end up the greatest. But Jesus intervened: “Kings like to throw their weight around and people in authority like to give themselves fancy titles. It’s not going to be that way with you. Let the senior among you become like the junior; let the leader act the part of the servant.

    Today's Questions:

What is the difference between doing chores because you have to and doing chores because you choose to? Why would you choose to do chores voluntarily?

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

    Bible Passage: John 11:55-57

When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, many went up from the country to Jerusalem for their ceremonial cleansing before the Passover. They kept looking for Jesus, and as they stood in the temple courts they asked one another, “What do you think? Isn’t he coming to the festival at all?”But the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that anyone who found out where Jesus was should report it so that they might arrest him.

    Bible Passage: John 12:12

The next day a large crowd was in Jerusalem for Passover. They heard that Jesus was coming for the festival.”

    Bible Passage: Matthew 21:2-11

“Jesus told his disciples, “Go into the next village, where you will at once find a donkey and her colt. Untie the two donkeys and bring them to me. If anyone asks why you are doing this, just say, ‘The Lordneeds them.’ He will at once let you have the donkeys.”

So God's promise came true, just as the prophet had said,

    “Announce to the people
        of Jerusalem:
â€˜Your king is coming to you!
     He is humble
        and rides on a donkey.
     He comes on the colt
        of a donkey.’ ”

The disciples left and did what Jesus had told them to do. They brought the donkey and its colt and laid some clothes on their backs. Then Jesus got on.

If a king rode into town on a donkey it was a symbol of peace. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

Many people spread clothes in the road, while others put down branches which they had cut from trees.

Some people walked ahead of Jesus and others followed behind. They were all shouting,

“Hooray for the Son of David!
God bless the one who comes
in the name of the Lord.
     Hooray for God
        in heaven above!”

When Jesus came to Jerusalem, everyone in the city was excited and asked, “Who can this be?”

The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

    Bible Passage: Zechariah 9:9

    Bible Passage: Luke 19: 39-44

Some Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, make your disciples stop shouting!”

But Jesus answered, “If they keep quiet, these stones will start shouting.”

    Today's Questions:

Why did the people lay palm branches and their cloaks on the ground for Jesus? Why do you think Jesus wept for the people who were doing these kind things? What would you have done if you were there?

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

    Bible Passage: John 12:1-6

"Six days before Passover Jesus went back to Bethany, where he had raised Lazarus from death.A meal had been prepared for Jesus. Martha was doing the serving, and Lazarus himself was there.

Mary took a very expensive bottle of perfume and poured it on Jesus' feet.

Apparently the bottle was worth 300 silver coins! It was perfume called nard, or spikenard, which I have some essential oil and it smells great, very earthy. My bottle is 15mL with a lid but Mary’s bottle was 350mL with no lid!

Mary wiped Jesus’ feet with her hair, and the sweet smell of the perfume filled the house.

A disciple named Judas Iscariot was there. He was the one who was going to betray Jesus, and he asked,“Why wasn't this perfume sold for 300 silver coins and the money given to the poor?” Judas did not really care about the poor. He asked this because he carried the moneybag and sometimes would steal from it.

    Bible Passage: Matt 26:10-16

Jesus knew what they were thinking, and he said:

“Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing for me. You will always have the poor with you, but you won't always have me. She has poured perfume on my body to prepare it for burial. You may be sure that wherever the good news is told all over the world, people will remember what she has done. And they will tell others.”

Judas Iscariot was one of the twelve disciples. He went to the chief priests and asked, “How much will you give me if I help you arrest Jesus?” They paid Judas 30 silver coins, and from then on he started looking for a good chance to betray Jesus.

    Bible Passage: John 12:9-11

A lot of people came when they heard that Jesus was there. They also wanted to see Lazarus, because Jesus had raised him from death. So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus. He was the reason that many of the people were turning from them and putting their faith in Jesus.

    Today's Questions:

What do you think of Mary’s gift to Jesus? Would you have done that for Jesus if you were there? How do you think Jesus would have felt receiving that gift? When Jesus was on the cross and if he had got a smell of the perfume, what might have been going through his mind?
  • Bible Passage: Jonah 3:5-10

“They believed God's message and set a time when they would go without eating to show their sorrow. Then everyone in the city, no matter who they were, dressed in sackcloth.

6 When the king of Nineveh heard what was happening, he also dressed in sackcloth; he left the royal palace and sat in dust. 7-9 Then he and his officials sent out an order for everyone in the city to obey. It said:

None of you or your animals may eat or drink a thing. Each of you must wear sackcloth, and you must even put sackcloth on your animals.

You must also pray to the Lord God with all your heart and stop being sinful and cruel. Maybe God will change his mind and have mercy on us, so we won't be destroyed.

10 When God saw that the people had stopped doing evil things, he had pity and did not destroy them as he had planned.”

Our sins are a blockage for us being friends with God.

The only way to get rid of the block is to say sorry and repent for our sins.

    Bible Passage: Matt 4:17

Then Jesus started preaching, “Repent! Turn back to God! The kingdom of heaven will soon be here.”

    Bible Passage: 1 John 1:9

“But if we confess our sins to God, he can always be trusted to forgive us and take our sins away.”

    Today's Questions:

How do you feel when you have done something wrong, something terrible, and you wish you hadn’t done it? What do you do? If you are sorry for your sins, spend some time praying together right now, wherever you are, confessing your sins to God, repenting and turning back to God.
