If the Toronto Raptors were to draft Maryland big Derik Queen or Illinois guard Kasparas JakuÄionis, they would need to be absolutely elite on the offensive end to justify it. In Episode 1887, Sean Woodley goes solo for his last show pre-paternity leave to try and get a second opinion on Derik Queen and Kasparas JakuÄionis, two prospects he's been largely out on as fits with the Raptors in the lead up to this draft -- but can a second viewing of both change his mind? Off the top, Sean talks about Queen's very fun face up game and post craft as a scorer and the passing flashes that make him pop as a short-roller before digging into the defensive limitations and sub-elite offensive skills that make him just too tough a fit to envision succeeded next to Scottie Barnes. Next, Sean talks about JakuÄionis, who flashes all kinds of cool passing craft and plenty of good shooting indicators, but runs into trouble any time he tries to turn the corner without the help of a screen; is his offensive game too limited to counter balance what will probably be a very low defensive ceiling? Lastly, Sean fields a listener question about offense/defense balance, and gets into why using Nikola Jokic and Tyrese Haliburton as examples of poor defenders leveling up in the playoffs isn't terribly helpful for a team like Toronto, which simply does not employ such generational offensive talents.

The Toronto Raptors have said they want to add a young big man to the team; what if they added a young and WEIRD big man with the ninth-overall pick? In Episode 1873, Sean Woodley digs into a trio of super interesting big man prospects in this year's class and gets into whether or not they'd make sense for the Raptors to take a swing on with the ninth-overall pick. Off the top, Sean gets into Michigan point center Danny Wolf, who does things with the ball in his hands that big men are not supposed to do. But is he TOO strange a prospect to really hit in the NBA? Next, Sean gets into Georgetown freshman Thomas Sorber, who's a bit more traditional as a defense-first, interior scoring big man, but who brings plenty to the table as a connective passer as well.
