  • In this episode we hear from Orion Chief Executive Nigel Barbour and Head of Leadership Breakthroughs at In Your Corner, Jono Brent as they discuss the current talent shortages in the energy sector and how it might require the courage to behave in ways that leverage the collective strength of the industry to tackle it together. New Zealand's Electrical Distribution industry plays a pivotal role in ensuring the reliable supply of electricity to consumers and businesses across the country. However, the industry is facing numerous challenges, including technological advancements, regulatory changes, Australia calling and the imminent retirement of a significant portion of its workforce. To remain competitive and sustainable, it is crucial for the industry to focus on attracting and retaining a capable workforce that is not only adaptable to foreseeable changes but one that sees significant benefit in being a part of the EDB sector in New Zealand specifically. This will mean ensuring all our workers thrive and have visibility of the opportunities within the sector.

  • Managing Director of Octopus Energy NZ, Ari Sargent and Energy Academy Lead Dee Anderson explore energy innovation opportunities in Aotearoa and unpack some of the existing barriers to innovate. This is a recording from a live Zoom session which includes a Q&A with participants.

    About Ari

Ari is not new to innovation. A 30 year veteran of the energy industry makes him either a dinosaur or a guru. He describes his early career as being interesting and extremely rewarding - he set up Meridian Energy’s trading operation, negotiated the renewal of the Tiwai Point electricity contract and spearheaded the company’s renewable energy strategy. But he definitely felt like a square peg in a corporate round hole. No surprise, he leapt from that environment to create Powershop, one of New Zealand’s most loved consumer brands, and established the world’s first multinational energy franchise to take Powershop to the world. These days he is heading up UK unicorn Octopus Energy’s entry into the NZ electricity market and wants to make accessing clean energy easy and affordable.

This session will kick off with a conversation between Ari and Energy Academy Lead, Dee Anderson, followed by the chance for participants to contribute to the conversation and a Q&A session with Ari.
