If any should say, '
Tis true,
if Men gave full Credit
to what they are told concerning
eternal Things,
and these appeared to 'em as real and certain Things,
it would be
an Evidence of a sort of Madness in them,
that they shew
no greater Regard to 'em in Practice:
But there is Rea|son to think,
this is not the Case;
the Things of another World,
being unseen things,
appear to Men as things of a very doubtful Nature,
In ANSWER,
I would observe, agreeable to what has been cited from Mr. Locke,
Though eternal things were considered in their bare Possibility,
if
Men acted rationally,
they would infinitely outweigh all temporal Things
in their Influence on their Hearts.
And I would also ob|serve,
that the supposing eternal Things
not to be fully believed,
at least by them who enjoy the Light of the Gospel,
does not weaken,
but rather strengthen the Argu|ment for the Depravity of Nature.
For the eternal World
being what God had chiefly in View in the Cre|ation of Men,
and
the Things of this World
being made to be wholly subordinate to the other,
Man's State here being
only a State of Probation, Preparation & Progression,
with respect to the future State,
and so eternal Things
being in Effect Men's All,
their whole Concern:
to un|derstand and know which,
it chiefly was, that they had Un|derstanding

IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A HEART AFTER GOD’S OWN AS KING DAVID HAD,
WE MUST FIRST,
BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES,
FOR WE KNOW WE LIE TO OURSELVES THE MOST,
ESPECIALLY ABOUT ETERNAL LIFE.
HAVE WE AS JOHN Q. PUBLIC OF AMERICA EVER ASKED OURSELVES, ESPECIALLY THOSE OF US THAT GO TO CHURCH, DO WE LOVE JESUS MORE THAN OUR SPOUSE OR ANY OTHER PERSON?
DOES JESUS REQUIRE THIS IN ORDER FOR US TO BE ONE OF HIS DISCIPLES?
Dr. Luke 14: 25] And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned,
and said unto them,
[26] If any man come to me,
and hate not
his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters,
yea, and his own life also,
he cannot be my disciple.
[27] And whosoever
doth not bear his cross,
and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
[28] For which of you,
intending to build a tower,
sitteth not down first,
and counteth the cost,
whether he have sufficient to finish it?
[29] Lest haply,

SO JESUS SEEMS TO GET RIGHT UP IN THE FACE OF US AMERICANS WHO GO TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY, AND THEN LIVE THE REST OF THE WEEK LIKE THE WORLD.
SO THEN WE AS JOHN Q. PUBLIC OF AMERICA SAY TO OURSELVES, AFTER READING WHAT JESUS JUST SAID, CAN WE STILL SAY WE REALLY LOVE JESUS?
SO WE AS JOHN Q. PUBLIC SAY TO OURSELVES, DOES NOT THE BIBLE TELLS US THAT THERE IS ANOTHER NAME FOR JESUS WHICH IS “THE WORD OF GOD”?
Revelation 19: [13] And he(JESUS) was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood:

“The Word of God”.

SO WE AS JOHN Q. PUBLIC SAY TO OURSELVES,
IF WE GO TO CHURCH AND SAY WE LOVE JESUS WITH ALL OUR HEART, WE SHOULD THEN LOVE “THE LAW OF THE LORD” IN WORD OF GOD AND WE SHOULD LOVE TO MEDITATE UPON IT DAY AND NIGHT, SHOULD WE NOT:
BUT HOW MANY OF US AMERICANS
LOVE “THE WORD OF GOD” (JESUS)
MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS WORLD AS JESUS SAID ABOVE MUST HAPPEN IN ORDER TO BE ONE OF HIS DISCIPLES.

SECT. III.
OVERVIEW
That Propensity which has been proved to be in the Nature of all Mankind,
must be
a very evil, de|praved and pernicious Propensity;
making it manifest that
the Soul of Man,
as it is by Nature,
is
in a corrupt, fallen and ruin'd State:
which is
the other Part of the Consequence,
drawn from
the Proposition laid down in the first Section.
Question to be considered, in Order to deter|mine whether Man's Nature is not depraved and ruin'd,
is not,
Whether he is not inclined to perform as many good Deeds as bad ones?
But,
Which of these two he preponderates to,
in the Frame of his Heart, and State of his Nature,
a State of
Innocence and Righteousness, and Favour with God;
or
a State of Sin, Guiltiness and Abhorrence in the Sight of God?
—Persevering sinless Righteousness,
or
else the Guilt of Sin,
is the Alternative,
the Decision of which depends (as is confessed) according to the Nature and Truth of Things,
as they are in them|selves,
and according to the Rule of Right and of perfect Justice,
Man's being approved and accepted of his Maker, and eternally blessed as good;
or
his being rejected, thrown away and cursed as bad.
And therefore
the Determi|nation of the Tendency of Man's Heart and Nature
with respect to these Terms,
is that which is to be look'd at,
in Order to determine whether his Nature
is good or evil,
pure or corrupt,
sound or ruin'd.
If such be Man's Na|ture, and state of his Heart,
that he has an infallibly ef|fectual Propensity to the latter of those Terms;
; then
it is wholly impertinent,
to talk of the innocent and kind Actions,
even of Criminals themselves,
surpassing their Crimes in Numbers;
and of
the prevailing Innocence, good Nature, Industry, Felicity and Chearfulness of the greater Part of Mankind.

be supposed;
yet,
by the Supposition,
there is an unfail|ing Propensity to such moral Evil,
as in it's dreadful Con|sequences

Surely that Tendency, which, in Effect,
is an infallible Tendency to eternal Destruction,
is an infinitely dreadful & pernicious Tendency:
And that Nature & Frame of Mind, which implies such a Tendency,
must be an infinitely dreadful & pernicious Frame of Mind.
It would be much more absurd, to suppose,
that such a State of Nature is good,
or not bad,
under a Notion of Men's doing more honest and kind things, than evil ones;
than to say,
the State of that Ship is good,
to cross the Atlantick Ocean in, that is such as cannot hold together through the Voyage,
but will infallibly founder and sink by the Way;
under a Notion
that it may probably go great Part of the Way before it sinks,
or
that it will pro|ceed and sail above Water more Hours than it will be in sinking:—
Or,
to pronounce thatRoad a good Road to go to such a Place,
the greater Part of which is plain and safe,
tho' some Parts of it are dangerous,
and certainly fatal to them that travel in it;
or to call that a good Pro|pensity, which is an inflexible Inclination to travel in such a Way.
SECT. V.
The Depravity of Nature appears,
in that the general Consequence of the State & Tendency of Man's Nature
is
a much greater
Degree of Sin, than Righteousness;
not only with respect to Value and Demerit,
but
Matter and Quantity.
I Have before shewn, that there is a Propensity in Man's Nature to that Sin,
which in Heinousness and Ill-desert
immensely outweighs all the Value and Merit of any supposed Good,
that may be in him, or that he can do.

THIS MESSAGE WE WILL LOOK AT THE #1 CULPRIT THAT BRINGS ALL TYPE OF MISERY IN OUR LIFE. RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, THE MOMENT WE ARE BORN INTO THIS WORLD, THIS SIN BEGINS TO PLAGUE US, AND WE ARE COMPLETELY UNAWARE HOW DANGEROUS THIS EVIL PROCLIVITY CAN BE TO OUR LIVES, IF IT IS EMBRACED RATHER THAN REPENTED OVER. HANNAH WHO WAS BARREN, FERVENTLY PRAYED, AND GOD EVENTUALLY ANSWERED HER PRAYER AND GAVE HER A CHILD NAMED SAMUEL WHO BECAME A GREAT PROPHET, AND AFTER SHE CONCEIVED SHE PRAYED A PRAYER WHICH INCORPORATED MUCH OF THIS DANGEROUS SIN, AND MARY JESUS’ MOTHER PROBABLY HAD THIS PRAYER MEMORIZED, FOR WHEN MARY WENT TO VISIT HER COUSIN ELIZABETH, WHO ALSO HAD BEEN BARREN AND THEN FINALLY CONCEIVED JOHN THE BAPTIST, MARY CAME TO VISIT HER, BEING PREGNANT WITH JESUS AND ELIZABETH WITH JOHN THE BAPTIST, AND SEEING THE HAND OF GOD IN BOTH HER AND ELIZABETH PRAYED A PRAISE SONG ALMOST IDENTICAL TO HANNAH’S PRAYER. THIS PRAYER ALSO INCORPORATED THIS DANGEROUS SIN AND ITS OPPOSITE.
SO WHAT COULD THIS SIN BE, WHICH IS #1 ON GOD’S HATE LIST OF ORIGINAL SINS, THE #1 EVIL PROCLIVITY OF OUR HEART THAT GOD HATES SO MUCH, THAT WHEN THIS EVIL PROCLIVITY OF OUR HEART RAISES ITS UGLY HEAD, AND WE DO NOT FORBID IT AND REPENT OVER IT, BUT ENTERTAIN IT AND EMBRACE IT AND THIS EVIL BLACK CAT ESCAPES GOD IS SO ANGRY THAT HIS HAND OF DISCIPLINE IS SO HORRIFIC THAT THE INDIVIDUALS IN THE BIBLE WHO RECEIVED THESE PUNISHMENTS NO DOUBT WOULD NEVER AGAIN WANT THAT BLACK CAT TO ESCAPE.
HEAR ARE EXAMPLES OF INDIVIDUALS WHO LET THIS DANGEROUS BLACK CAT ESCSPE OUT OF THEIR HEART.
[10] Now therefore the SWORD shall NEVER DEPART from THINE HEART; Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I WILL
RAISE UP EVIL AGAINST THEE out of thine OWN HOUSE, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. to thee it is spoken;

WE AS AMERICANS LIVE IN A FREE COUNTRY, BUT WE ARE ONLY FREE IF GOVERN OURSELVES, BUT WHAT SHOULD WE BE GOVERNING BUT OUR ORIGINAL SIN AND REPENTING OVER OUR ORIGINAL SIN BEFORE IT BECOMES AN ACT OF SIN, THEN AND ONLY THEN WILL WE BE THE MOST MORAL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. OR HOW IS IT A MAN CAN DO ANY GOOD AT ALL IF HE IS TOTALLY EVIL?
WHAT IF A SHIP’S MISSION WAS TO TAKE ITS PASSENGERS FROM NEW YORK HARBOR TO ENGLAND BUT THREE QUARTERS THE WAY THROUGH THE JOURNEY, THE PASSENGER SHIP SINKS AND ALL DIE, WOULD THE JOURNEY, BECAUSE IT MADE MORE THAN HALF WAY TO ENGLAND BE CONSIDERED A GOOD JOURNEY, OR BAD JOURNEY?

DOES GOD DEMAND PERFECTION OR DOES GOD BELIEVE IN PARTIAL CREDIT?
Jonathon EDWARDS is writing this Treatise on Original Sin against a man with a P. H. D., DR. TAYLOR. HOW CAN THIS DOCTOR TAYLOR BE SO IGNORANT AND USE SUCH FALLIBLE ARGUMENTS IF HE IS THAT SMART?

Surely that tendency,
which in effect,
is an infallible tendency
to eternal destruction,
is an infinitely and dreadful and pernicious frame of mind.
It would be much more absurd to suppose,
that such a state of nature is not bad,
under a notion of men doing more honest and kind things than evil ones:
the state of that ship is good, for crossing the Atlantic Ocean, though such cannot hold together through the voyage, but will infallibly flounder and sink, under a notion that it probably will go a great part
of the way before it sinks….
More absurd, than it would be to affirm, that a wife is a good wife to him, though she committed adultery, and that with the slaves and scoundrels sometimes, yet she did not do this so often as she did the duties of a wife.
SECTION III OVERVIEW
That propensity, which has been proved to be in the nature of all mankind, must be a very evil, depraved, and pernicious propensity; making it manifest, that the soul of man, as it is by nature, is in a corrupt, fallen, and ruined state; which is the other part of the consequence, drawn from the proposition laid down in the first section.

THE question to be considered,
in order
to determine whether man’s nature be depraved and ruined,
is not,
Whether he is inclined to perform as many good deeds as bad ones?
But, to which of these two he preponderates, in the frame of his heart, and the state of his nature,
a state of innocence and righteousness, and favor with God;
or a state of sin, guiltiness, and abhorrence in the sight of God? —
Persevering sinless righteousness,
or else the guilt of sin,
is the alternative,
on the decision of which depends —
according to the nature and truth of things,
as they are in themselves,
and
according to the rule of right, and of perfect justice —
man being approved and accepted of his Maker
and eternally blessed as good;
or
his being rejected, and cursed as bad.
And therefore
the determination of the tendency of man’s heart and nature, with respect to these terms,
is that
which is to be looked at,
in order
to determine whether his nature is good or evil, pure or corrupt,

DO WE NOT AS AMERICANS WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF CERTAIN TEMPORAL DISEASES SO WE CAN CHANGE OUR BEHAVIOR TO AVOID ACQUIRING THAT DISEASE. SO KNOWING THE TRUE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL CHANGE OUR BEHAVIOR WILL IT NOT.
BUT IS IT NOT MOST IMPORTANT FOR OUR AMERICAN LEADERS TO KNOW THE REAL CAUSE DEATH? IN THIS MESSAGE WE WILL FIND OUT THE REAL CAUSE OF DEATH, IT WILL INFLUENCE OUR MORAL BEHAVIOR GREATLY FOR LIBERTY IS UNSUSTAINABLE APART FROM MORALITY.
WE AS AMERICANS NEED TO GIVE TRUTHFUL ANSWERS TO A CHILD’S QUESTION OF WHY HE/SHE IS BORN TO DIE, AND BORN INTO THIS WORLD AS AN INNATE LIAR AND THAT LYING CANNOT BE ERADICATED?
BUT SHOULD WE NOT ASK AS AMERICANS HOW IT IS POSSIBLE THAT OUR LEADERS THEMSELVES DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWER TO THESE TWO SIMPLE QUESTIONS. HOW COULD THESE HIGH IQ AMERICANS NOT HAVE ON THE TIP OF THEIR TONGUE, THE ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS AND BE ABLE 100% DEFEND IT?
IF WE DON’T KNOW THE REAL CAUSE OF OUR DEATH, THEN HOW COULD WE KNOW THE SIGNIFICANCE OF EVERY FUNERAL WE GO TO, WHAT IS THE WARNING SIGNS OF THAT FUNERAL? CAN WE ANSWER THAT QUESTION IF WE DON’T KNOW THE REAL CAUSE OF OUR DEATH?
JESUS CAME INTO THIS WORLD AS A BLUE COLLAR WORKER AND CHOSE 4 UNEDUCATED FISHERMAN AND A TAX CHEAT TO MOCK THE RELIGIOUS RULERS, THE PHARISEES OF HIS DAY. I will tell you by the word "righteousness," I understand all that Christ hat done, and all that Christ hath suffered: or, to make use of the term generally made use of by sound divines, "Christ's active, and Christ's passive obedience;"
put those two together, and they make up the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ. My dear friends, thus stood the case between God and man: at first God made man upright.
It likewise signifies inward holiness, wrought in us by the blessed Spirit of God. But, I believe, the word righteousness in my text signifies, what, I trust most, I should be glad if I could say, all who attend this night, will be glad to hear of:
What is that? It is what all reformed divines, that have clear heads and clean hearts, call an imputed righteousness, or the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ to be imputed to poor sinners upon their believing: and, if you ask me, what I mean by an imputed righteousness, not to shoot over you heads, but rather, if God shall be pleased to make me, to reach your hearts, I will tell you by the word "righteousness,"
I understand all that Christ hat done, and all that Christ hath suffered: or, My dear friends, thus stood the case between God and man: at first God made man upright.
He saw God wielding his flaming sword, and his hand taking hold of vengeance; the Lord Jesus Christ saw the sword ready to be sheathed in the blood of the offender; when no eye could pity, when no angel or archangel could rescue, just as God was, as it were, about to give the fatal blow, just as the knife was put to the throat of the offender, the Son of God,
the eternal Logos, says, "

So that when Christ's righteousness is here spoken of, we are to understand "Christ's obedience and death," all that Christ has done, and all that Christ has suffered for an ELECT world, for all that will believe on him.
And blessed be God for this righteousness! Blessed be God for the epithet which in the text is put to this righteousness; it might be called a blessed righteousness, it might be called a glorious righteousness, it might be called an invaluable righteousness; but the angel calls it an everlasting righteousness: God give you to take the comfort of it!
I said before, so I tell you again, the righteousness of Jesus Christ is an everlasting righteousness: it is wrought out for the very chief of sinners. Ho, every one that thirsteth, let him come and drink of this water of life freely.
Are any of you wounded by sin?
Do any of you feel you have no righteousness of your own? Are any of you perishing for hunger? Are any of you afraid ye will perish forever? Come, dear souls, in all your rags; come, thou poor man; come, thou poor, distressed woman;
you, who think God will never forgive you, and that your sins are too great to be forgiven;
come, thou doubting creature, who art afraid thou wilt never get comfort; arise, take comfort, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of life, the Lord of glory, calls for thee: through his righteousness there is hope for the chief of sinners, for the worst of creatures. What if thou hadst committed all the sins in the world? What if thou hadst committed the sins of a thousand…

IS IT IN OUR DNA TO THINK THAT IF THERE IS A HEAVEN WOULD HEAVEN BE HOLY AND THERE SEEMS TO BE AN INNATE ANSWER IN THE DNA OF US AMERICANS, GIVING US A RESOUNDING YES TO THAT QUESTION.

WAS JESUS LYING, WHEN HE SAID THAT WE COULD, AS AMERICANS, GO TO HEAVEN BY KEEPING THE COMMANDMENTS.
MATT. 19: 16] And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I MAY HAVE ETERNAL LIFE?
[17] And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into (ETERNAL)life, KEEP the COMMANDMENTS.

THAT IS A SIMPLE AND REASONABLE QUESTION IS IT NOT. ALL CHRISTIANS AND PASTORS SAVED BY GRACE SHOULD KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION SHOULD THEY NOT?

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? WE AS AMERICANS MUST COME TO REALIZE THAT SATAN IS THE ULTIMATE COUNTERFEITER, OFFERING US TO BE A TWEAKED NATURAL MAN BY OFFERING US A FASTFOOD FREEWILL JESUS, WHO MAY HELP US PULL OUT OF THE POLLUTIONS OF THE WORLD, BUT SATAN WANTS US IGNORANT OF THE FACT THAT THERE IS A BONDAGE OF THE WILL JESUS, IN WHICH WE MUST WAIT ON OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN TO REVEAL THE TRUE JESUS TO US, WHEREIN WE ARE NOW MADE A NEW AMERICAN SPIRITUAL MAN WHICH UNDER THE HOOD HAS CHARACTERS 100% DISTINGUISHABLE FROM OUR NATURAL MAN CHARACTERISTICS.LET US TAKE A FEW EXCEPTS FROM JONATHON EDWARDS SERMON:
The SPIRIT of GOD acts in a VERY DIFFERENT manner in the one case from what he doth in the other.
He may indeed act upon the mind of a natural man, BUT he acts in the mind of a SAINT as an INDWELLING VITAL PRINCIPAL.
He ACTS upon the mind of an UNREGENERATE person as an EXTRINSIC , OCCASIONAL AGENT; for in acting upon them, he doth NOT UNITE himself to them;
notwithstanding all his influences that they may be the subjects of, they are still sensual, having not the Spirit, Jude 19.
But he unites himself with the mind of a saint, takes him for his temple, actuates and influences him as a new, supernatural principle of life and action.
There is this difference, that the Spirit of God, in acting in the soul of a godly man,
exerts and communicates himself there in his own proper nature. Holiness is the proper nature of the Spirit of God.
The Holy Spirit operates in the minds of the godly by uniting himself to them, and living in them, and exerting his own nature in the exercise of their faculties.
The Spirit of God may act upon a creature, and yet not in acting communicate himself. The Spirit of God may act upon inanimate creatures; as the Spirit moved upon the face of the waters in the beginning of the creation;[Pg 26] so the Spirit of God may act upon the minds of men many ways, and communicate himself no more than when he acts upon an inanimate creature.
For instance, he may excite thoughts in them, may assist their natural reason and understanding, or may assist other natural principles, and this without any union with the soul, but may act, as it were, as upon an external object.
But as he acts in his holy influences and spiritual operations, he acts in a way of peculiar communication of himself; so that the subject is thence denominated spiritual.
This spiritual light primarily consists in the former of these, viz.,
a real sense and apprehension of the divine excellency of things revealed in the word of God. A spiritual and saving conviction of the truth and reality of these things arises from such a sight of their divine excellency and glory;
This light, and this only, has its fruit in an universal holiness of life. No merely notional or speculative understanding of the doctrines of religion will ever bring to this. But this light, as it reaches the bottom of the heart, and changes the nature, so it will effectually dispose to an universal obedience. It shows God’s worthiness to be obeyed and served. It draws forth the heart in a sincere love to God, which is the only principle of a true, gracious and universal obedience. And it convinces of the reality of those glorious rewards that God has promised to them that obey him.

DO WE AS AMERICANS HAVE A FREEWILL TO ACCEPT OR REJECT JESUS OR IS OUR WILL BOUND IN SALVATION?WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF LAW AFTER WE ARE MADE A NEW CREATION WHEN WORKS CANCELS GRACE AND GRACE CANCELS WORKS? THIS QUESTIONS JUST DEMOLISHES THE FREEWILL DOCTRINE AND THE KING OF THE REFORMATION , LUTHER ADDRESSES THIS QUESTION IN HIS BOOK ENTITLED ‘ BONDAGE OF THE WILL’ IN RESPONSE TO ERASMUS WHO WROTE THE BOOK ENTITLED ‘FREEDOM OF THE WILL’ IN 1524. THE NATURE OF THE SPIRITUAL NEW CREATION IS TOTALLY PARADOXICAL IN NATURE. THE SPIRITUAL NEW CREATION KNOWS INNATELY HOW TO USE THE LAW AND DOES NOT NEED TO BE TAUGHT HOW TO USE THE FOR IT IS AS EASY FOR HIM AS IT IS FOR A BABY TO BREAST FEED. IN ROMANS 7:14 FORMER MR. MORALITY WRITES THAT THE LAW OF THE NEW CREATION IS SPIRITUAL AND THAT IS WHY THE NATURAL MAN CHRISTIAN IS CLUELESS OF THE TRUE FUNCTION OF THE LAW FOR THE NATURAL MAN CHRISTIAN IS NOT SPIRITUAL AND ONLY THE SPIRITUAL KNOW HOW TO INNATELY USE THE LAW.MARTIN LUTHER, WHO WAS KING OF THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE LAW AMONGST THE REFORMERS WRITES: “Wherefore, the WORDS of the LAW are SPOKEN, NOT that they MIGHT ASSERT a. the POWER of the (FREE)WILL, but that they might ILLUMINATE the BLINDNESS of REASON, that it MIGHT SEE that its OWN LIGHT is NOTHING, and that the POWER of the WILL is nothing. "BY the LAW (saith Paul) is the KNOWLEDGE of sin," (Rom. iii. 20.): he does NOT SAY-is the ABOLITION of, or the ESCAPE from SIN. The WHOLE NATURE and DESIGN of the LAW is to GIVE KNOWLEDGE ONLY, and that of NOTHING ELSE ‘EXCEPT of sin, but NOT to DISCOVER or COMMUNICATE any POWER whatever. For KNOWLEDGE is NOT POWER, NOR does it COMMUNICATE POWER, but it TEACHES and SHOWS how GREAT the IMPOTENCY must there be, where there is NO POWER. And WHAT ELSE can the KNOWLEDGE of SIN BE, but the KNOWLEDGE of our EVIL and INFIRMITY? For he DOES NOT SAY-by the LAW comes the KNOWLEDGE of STRENGTH
or of GOOD. The WHOLE that the LAW DOES, according to the testimony of Paul, is to MAKE
KNOWN SIN.
that man, by the WORDS of the LAW, is ADMONISHED and TAUGHT what he OUGHT to DO, ALSO NOT WHAT he CAN DO: that is, that he is BROUGHT to KNOW his SIN, but NOT to BELIEVE that HE HAS any STRENGTH in HIMSELF. Wherefore, FREIND Erasmus, as often as you THROW in my TEETH the Words of the LAW, so often I throw in yours that of Paul, "BY the LAW is the KNOWLEDGE of SIN,"-NOT of the POWER of the WILL. Heap together, therefore, out of the large Concordances all the IMPERATIVE WORDS, (COMMANDS) into one chaos, provided that, they be not WORDS of the PROMISE but of the REQUIREMENT of the LAW ONLY, and I will immediately declare, that by them is always shewn what men OUGHT to DO, not what THEY CAN do, or DO DO, And even common grammarians and EVERY LITTLE SCHOOL-BOY in the street knows, that by VERBS of the imperative mood, nothing else is signified than that which OUGHT to be DONE, and that, WHAT “IS” DONE or can be done, is expressed by verbs of the INDICATIVE mood.
Thus, therefore, it comes to pass, that YOU THEOLOGIANS, are so SENSELESS and so many degrees BELOW EVEN SCHOOL-BOYS, that when you have CAUGHT HOLD of one IMPERATIVE verb you INFER an INDICATIVE sense, as though WHAT was COMMENDED were immediately and even necessarily DONE, or POSSIBLE to be DONE. But how many slips are there between the cup and the lip! So that, what you command to be done,therefore..

Do I manifest an attitude of openness toward God that would invite him to “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts”? (Psalm 139:23-24)Is my heart eager to learn of “any wicked way” in me?Are my motives for self-examination correct—that I might be led “in the way everlasting”?Is it important for me to know whether or not I live in a state of sin?Do I live in the gratification of some lust, either in thought or in deed?Do I live in the omission of some known duty?Am I sinning against the light of my conscience in some way, by going on in known sins?Have I been careful, watchful, and diligent in observing myself for evidence of sin in commission or omission?Have I lived in some way which is inconsistent with my Christian profession, and is not suitable for disciples and followers of Jesus?Have I allowed myself to become blinded by the deceitful nature of habitually gratified sin? -
HOW DOES THE VERTICAL BECOME RIGHT, BUT WHEN THE VERTICAL BECOMES SPIRITUAL?
WHEN THE VERTICAL IS SPIRITUAL, THE HORIZONTAL WILL BECOME GOOD. BUT HOW DOES THE VERTICAL BECOME SPIRITUAL? CAN THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF JESUS BE KNOWN BY UNDERSTANDING, OR ONLY BY REVELATION? HOW DOES THAT AFFECT THE HORIZONTAL NATIONAL?
IN THIS MESSAGE WE WILL TAKE A DEEPER DIVE INTO THE VERTICAL AND TIE IT BACK TO THE SUCCESS OF THE HORIZONTAL, AND HOPEFULLY GIVE US SOME INSIGHT IN HOW TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.
IN THE 1831, THE FRENCH PHILOSOPHER ALEX DE TOCQUEVILLE MADE A VISIT TO AMERICA TO SEE IF HE COULD DISCOVER WHAT MADE AMERICA GREAT. HIS CONCLUSION WAS THE FOLLOWING:
I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers—and it was not there. . . . . in her fertile fields and boundless forests—and it was not there. . . . .in her rich mines and her vast world commerce—and it was not there. . . . in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution—and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with RIGHTEOUSNESS did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is GREAT because she is GOOD, and if America ever ceases to be GOOD, she will cease to be GREAT.
LIKEWISE THE QUEEN OF SHEBA(PRESENT DAY YEMEN) MADE A VISIT TO ISRAEL TO SEE IF THE RUMORS OF KING SOLOMON’S ISRAEL WERE TRUE IN ABOUT 950 B. C.

[1] And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.

[5] And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom:
[6] Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.
[7] Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom.
[8] Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.
[9] And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices great abundance, and precious stones: neither was there any such spice as the queen of Sheba gave king Solomon.
