In this episode, I share 5 powerful ways to bring meaning back into our kidsâ livesâtools that go beyond screen limits and behavioral strategies to touch something deeper.
We explore how to:
1. Create a sense of belonging by grounding children in something bigger than themselvesâstarting with simple, meaningful family rituals.
2. Offer real-life participation, not just passive entertainmentâgiving them time to be present, connect with others, experience flow states, and live beyond the screen.
3. Encourage the pursuit of meaning, not just comfortâteaching them to follow what challenges and grows them, rather than what feels easy or pleasurable in the moment.
4. Shift our mindset by believing that kids are anti fragile and that adversity can lead to growthânot just trauma or disorder.
5. Lead with grounded authorityâclaiming our role as guides and mentors who help our children rise to their potential and contribute their gifts to the world. This conversation is a reminder that meaning doesnât just happenâitâs built through intentional choices, deep connection, and courageous parenting.

Our society has undergone a radical transformationâfrom one rooted in hierarchy, authority, and tradition to one that celebrates openness, equality, and emotional authenticity. In this episode, I explore how political and cultural movements like the New Left, along with the rise of secularism, commercialism, and therapeutic thinking, reshaped the way we relate to authority, structure, and ultimately, how we parent. What happens when the old frameworks fall away, and nothing clear takes their place? Join me as we unpack the historical and ideological shifts that helped create the meaning crisis affecting todayâs childrenâand how it all traces back to the world we've built around them.

In todayâs episode, we explore a powerfulâand often uncomfortableâtruth: judgment-free parenting is not what our children need.
In a world lacking a clear moral compass, our kids are growing up surrounded by overwhelming information, conflicting influences, and voices that often lead them away from wisdom, discipline, and values. While empathy is essential in parenting, it cannot replace moral clarity.
We dive into:
Why empathy alone can become a trapThe danger of assuming kids will âfigure it outâ without guidanceHow to help our children distinguish right from wrong in a confusing worldThe importance of modeling delayed gratification and value-based decision-makingWhy our children need us to be confident moral leadersânot just emotionally supportive figuresWe also discuss the balance:
How to guide without being rigidHow to stay in honest communication with our kidsThe importance of personal growth as parents so we can lead by exampleWhy a strong, respectful relationship with our children is the foundation for real influenceThis episode is both a call to courage and a gentle reminder: Your children are looking to you to leadânot just to understand.

Fraida shares her family's journey, including raising a child with Rett syndrome, and how focusing on gratitude, resilience, and proactive growth has shaped her outlook on life.

This conversation is a reminder that challenges are not endpointsâthey are invitations to build, to deepen our connection to God, and to live with greater purpose and joy.
In this episode, we discuss:
How Fraida and her family embrace gratitude even amid life's toughest challengesThe concept from Kabbalah of looking forward and being proactive during hardshipThe Jewish approach to parenting and the three core life skills parents must teach:How to "swim" through life's watersLearning a trade or skillPreparing for marriage and emotional maturityWhy modeling values is more powerful than preaching themParenting each child according to their unique way ("Teach the child according to his way")How Jewish traditions and rituals create stability, belonging, and emotional resilienceWhat it means to discipline from a soul-centered, Torah-based perspectiveHow to maintain connection and faith when children choose different pathsThe importance of living every moment as a teaching opportunity through Torah values -
Inspired by John Vervaekeâs Course âThe Premise of Beautyâ on Peterson Academy
In this deeply reflective solo episode, we dive into how our childrenâs mental health crisis is, at its root, a meaning crisis. Drawing on the insights of philosopher and cognitive scientist John Vervaeke, we explore how the loss of cultural depth, the dominance of the "having mode," and the narrowing of our ways of knowing have led to a disconnection from beauty, wisdom, and the sacred.
đ The Crisis in Numbers

In this powerful episode, we explore why so many modern parentsâespecially in the millennial generationâfeel like theyâve lost their authority. We unpack the cultural shifts that led us here: from authoritarian upbringings to the rise of therapeutic parenting, gentle approaches, and fear of judgment in a multicultural, morally relativistic society.
But have we gone too far?
We discuss how authority became synonymous with oppression, why permissiveness is not the solution, and how children actually thrive when there is clear, benevolent leadership in the home.

By shifting our mindset, we can learn to trust our kids, recognize their resilience, and understand that they can handle adversityâeven when it comes from us.
Their mental health is shaped by much more than whether or not we "traumatize" them. Join me as I explore a broader, more empowering view of parentingâone that helps us release unnecessary guilt and embrace our role with confidence.

In this episode, I sit down with Anat Zuria, an acclaimed Israeli filmmaker and deep thinker, to explore a significant factor in the maternal mental health crisis overwhelming American mothers todayâunrealistic expectations. We discuss the harmful narratives and societal pressures that leave mothers feeling inadequate and burned out, and Anat offers a powerful antidote: realistic compassion. While compassion is essential, she emphasizes that it must exist within a framework of realistic, sustainable expectations for mothers.
About Anat Zuria
Anat Zuria is a celebrated film writer and director, known for bringing deeply personal and thought-provoking stories to the screen. Her award-winning documentaries, including Purity and Black Bus, explore identity, faith, gender, and cultural dynamics, sparking meaningful global conversations.

In collaboration with Emmy-winning sound editor Lidia Tamplenizza, she is developing Women Under the Influence, a documentary examining how societal structures and expectations contribute to the struggles of modern mothers. Inspired by the 2024 U.S. Surgeon Generalâs report, which revealed that 41% of parents feel "too stressed to function," the film brings together voices from families, healthcare professionals, social scientists, and policymakers to create a comprehensive portrait of contemporary motherhood in America.
Beyond filmmaking, Anat is a deep thinker and facilitator, integrating insights from Buddhism, Taoism, and her own lived experiences. I first met her through a womenâs circle she facilitated with her daughter, where her profound understanding of parenting, spirituality, and personal transformation immediately stood out.

In this episode, we explore thespiritual journey of parentingâhow raising children is also an opportunity for our own growth and evolution. Every experience we go through serves a purpose, and sometimes, it is through feeling lost that we begin to truly find ourselves.
Growth is always happening, even when itâs not immediately visible. Just like nature, much of our transformation takes place beneath the surface. As we evolve, the way we engage with others shifts because we can only give what we hold within ourselves. This is why embracing change is so essentialâby staying open and curious, we allow ourselves to grow alongside our children. Questioning our beliefs and expectations, especially about parenting, helps us remain fluid and adaptable, recognizing that our childrenâs journeys are uniquely their own.
Being present and mindful is a powerful tool in both parenting and life. The only moment we truly have isnow, and by using our sensesâtouch, smell, and feelâwe can fully embrace and appreciate what is in front of us. Parenting from a place of trust and openness allows us to meet our children ateye and heart level, respecting their intuition and wisdom from an early age. Itâs a delicate balance betweenaccepting who they are while also challenging them to grow, helping them navigate lifeâs inevitable challenges as opportunities for transformation.
Boundaries play a crucial role in this process. They are not rigid rules butflexible, evolving guidelines that help children develop a strong sense of self. Encouraging them to listen to their emotions and bodily signals empowers them to make healthy decisions and establish their own boundaries. At the same time, as parents, we must recognize when we need support, allowing ourselves to rest and recharge so we can continue to create a safe and nurturing environment for our children.
At the heart of it all, life is meant to be enjoyed. The more we embrace joy, trust, and love, the more life gives it back to us. So letâs not take ourselves too seriouslyâletâs embrace the journey, knowing that we are growing just as much as our children are.
Iâd love to hear your thoughtsâwhat part of this episode resonated most with you? đ

The teen years may seem terrifying, as our kids start to step away from our sheltering presence and turn outwards, beginning to learn who they truly are.
These years can be filled with rupture and disconnection BUT they can also be a great time for connection and growth for the parent and the child!
Listen on in this important conversation I had with Cheryl Pankhurst where we talked about ways to have a great experience when parenting teens and enjoying those years of deeper connection to our kids before they shift into adulthood.
We want to make sure we nurture the best connection we can before they leave the nest and start their own life journey, so they will know that even when they leave they always have a safe place to come back to!
Here are Cheryl's info if you'd like to connect with her:
Cheryl is newly retired in order to share her expertise on a global scale with the recently launched Podcast, âTeen Minds Redefined. Cheryl is a Special Education Specialist. There is a misconception about what colleges are looking for, and it has a devastating effect on the way we educate our kids!
