#285 - The 2024 Olympics in Paris begin July 26th and it promises to be a pretty spectacular games for running in general! There are so many track and marathon stories that these games will be a great one to follow! I give a brief breakdown to the different American entries in the track events and marathon. The track finals took place in Eugene these past couple of weeks and what a time it was! Many records were broken and memories made! I can't wait for the Paris Games!

#284 - There are A LOT of things we can do to prepare for a race, or a long training run. I'm including training runs in this episode as well, as the preparation and recovery are usually the same things, aren't they? Many things we can prepare, other things we can purchase (who said running is a cheap sport???). Maybe you do some of these things already and others you hadn't thought about. In any case, it's fun to think about some alternative ways to do things and to give it a new perspective!

#283 - Dr George Sheehan was a venerable fixture in the 1980s running world. He was a columnist in the once-great Runners World magazine and many of us looked towards his wisdom and incredible running monthly. This week, I talk about his writing, his running and how he enriched many of our lives.

#280 - Mile races are not very popular anymore. But when we think back to mile races, we may think of Roger Bannister breaking the 4-minute mile for the first time and how incredible it must have been. Or, we think of how this distance evolved into the 1500-meter race we have today. Or maybe, you think of the Beer Mile races that are rising in popularity today. There's something about the Miler to me that conjures storytelling, history and the romanticism of running. That's what makes it such a magical distance. #278 - The Pacific Crest Trail is one of the three Big Three American trails that also includes the Appalachian Trail and the Continental Divide. It is an incredible treasure of a trail: 2.650 miles of picturesque trail encompassing some of the most beautiful landscape you will ever see! This week, I cover the trail's history, what to expect if you want to enjoy a part of it, or all of it and some incredible feats of some very wild FKTs! The PCT is a national gem and we should all make an effort to see at least a few miles of it!

#277 - Unless you only run 5ks or are a casual runner and don't care about races, you will need to include a weekly or a bi-weekly long run. Long runs are terrific, but sometimes it's hard to psych ourselves up for getting through them. One long run might be a breeze, while another you may need some extra help! I'm here for you. #274 - Do you have a reason why you run? Do you have Something that gets you out on your runs and keeps you out, especially on those really tough training runs? Sooner or later, those reasons will be tested. That's why, this week, I thought I would explore our WHY for running. Why do we do what we do? Why do we spend so much time running, thinking about running, recovering from running, preparing for running? Our reasons our WHY may change over our running years from when we started but it's a good time to ask ourselves if our reasons for running are enough to keep us going.

#273 - Running is an active sport and as an active sport, things can happen while you're running. If you've ever had a serious accident while running or had another unfortunate circumstance, you may have suffered from PTSD, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. This week, I talk about how DTSD relates to running and how you can take steps to help find your way through. This is such a huge and terrible disorder, that I'm focusing on runners here in particular to keep the focus on the theme of my show, but I do know that is in a subject that needs much more research and resources. If you need help or want to understand more about PTSD, I provide links on the show website. There is help and you are not alone.

#268 - The Appalachian Trail is the first of the Big Three American long trails. The other two are The Pacific Crest Trail and The Continental Divide Trail. But the AT was first. It is one of the greatest resources and places of wonder in the US. This week, I talk about its history, the geology of the trail and a few other interesting facts.
