In this episode I am joined by Eric Armusik to discuss Dante and his enormous artistic project in progress, 40 large canvas paintings of Dante’s “Inferno”. We will discuss an artists perspective of history and historical art, what goes into attempting faithful renditions, and how Eric has been inspired by Dante.

Professor David Parnell joins me to help me understand the medieval Eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire. Being a non-expert, I have ran up against a lot of confusion in my own reading. We talk about how power works and evolved from the Empire of antiquity. How the army evolved. The relationship of Christianity and the government. And we talk about his very interesting book Belisarius and Antonina. Please let us know what you think (and if you have any questions we missed) in the comments! Before releasing the first episode of Memory Medieval, I wanted to iron out my process, make sure all the tools work, and get a little sea legs under myself. So I set out to record an audiobook first. An audiobook that has never been recorded before! So it is my pleasure to bring to you “Duelling Stories of the Sixteenth Century”.This book is a spirited exploration of elite honor culture in renaissance Christendom through dueling (often to the death). It has been a pleasure to bring this obscure part of our history to light! Hope you enjoy! Now I will begin making some art to accompany the audiobook, catch up on some things around the house, and begin cranking out the first episode of Memory Medieval in September!
