In PART ONE we get to know Rob and find out his origin story along with some of his collection favorites and goals. We delve into his collecting preferences and ask about everything in his realm, including the uniforms, and see how he feels about everything in ours.
We ask his MILSURP opinions on things like the Ross sights, South American arms, and the Trapdoor vs Snider Debate, and of course we do another HQ Speed Round! We also get into making and using old ammo, the USA/CAN MILSURP scene differences, Historical plus UK gun-filled books to add to your lists, and of course, we ask for Mustache secrets.
In PART TWO we get into the specific UK and Empire arms questions, his bread and butter. This part is the schooling, so sit back and learn! We go from the old Brown Bess, Bakers, and Brunswicks (the killer B's? No?) all the way up to the post World War 2 Lee-Enfields-- so that means Snider-Enfields, Martini-Henrys, and all of them LEEs.
We also get into the "Rim-lock controversy" to clear up any misinformation on what it is and why it occurs, (and if it exists...) and we have a great Mad Minute discussion and clear up some myths there, complete with a discussion on what was expected of a soldier and details of the actual tests of the day that Rob took and passed!
This is a jammed packed show you will definitely LEARN something from or your money back!MHQ

Including an **HQ EXCLUSIVE** --Casto's ammo testing results revealed!! Don't shoot 'em until you hear this!

We are joined by a pair of Michaels to share how we prioritize purchases, what our old and new collecting goals are, and how we've all evolved as the collections have grown.
We settle whether or not sporterized and non-functional guns truly count as a "box checker", and whether WW1/WW2 collectors need to collect EVERY single model from EVERY single country in EVERY single caliber, or can you be a true collector with just "an example" or two.
A bonus... a few high $$$ rare 2024 pickups, with some tips for getting your own, and of course, lots of history, anecdotes, and valuable info from some informed collectors. Plus some "not quite there, but almost" AI created music about MILSURP collectors preserving History!

(Head over to YouTube and check out the video for more context)
Joined by Tenacious Trilobite, Verda, Mark, & Dylan, the HQ holds another ROUNDTABLE discussion talking about these three topics today: "Weird" MILSURP , Funny & Interesting YouTube/Instagram channels, and Listener Mailbag Q&A.
This crew was very busy the past month, so we also discuss our latest pickups... I think between the 6 of us we picked up over 25 items this MONTH....
And of course, we have a FEW MILSURP Trivia games as well!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------GOAL: Teach someone somewhere something!
NOTE: We do our best to research MULTIPLE SOURCES for everything we share as "facts" but even the most shared & rock solid MILSURP truths can be unproven or proven wrong we've learned! (See 'Backbone of the Wehrmacht')
We've read the books, watched the documentaries, and rummaged through hundreds of ordnance reports and country docs to give you the consensus facts as best as we can! But, as always, do your own research as well!

We've been busy jet setting around the world, but we are back! Sit back and enjoy some tales from abroad from K & I and our special guests, our pals Jake and Nick!
We get as much MILSURP in there as we can, but this show is a bit more loose with some great history and fun stories, along with talk of museums, what to eat, and all that good stuff.
Also, we had a joint summer vacation this year as we all met up in KC again for the MVACA Gun show, so we discuss everything about that, from the prices and where things are trending, to some funny Fudd-type things overheard and seen.
We also do Summer pickups, gun show better ideas, a 30 second flash game, and a whole lot of other stuff so give it a listen.

We thought this would be a fun way to teach and inform about some of the intriguing items and stories found in the MILSURP universe. By "COOL & Interesting MILSURP" we mean literally anything interesting, like a great history, or interesting features or unit markings, or an intriguing design story, or just simply it LOOKS F'IN COOL.
We've got some super rare & trials rifles, some items with amazing histories, some crazy designs you have to hear about, a few cool captures, and of course a number of Mausers, including the king of 'em all, a Tankgewehr!
We also sneak in a quick INTERESTING MILSURP Trivia, and finish strong with some rarely seen MILSURP you'll definitely learn something about.

We grabbed one of the BEST resources on the internet, World War Wisdom, to fill us in on everything there is about WW2 reenacting-- including things like RE history, the different types, signing up, gearing up and gear authenticity, finding a unit, rules and regulations, safety, firearms & blank firing, receiving & taking orders, tactics, shooting, dying & respawning, accidents, thieves, post-event parties, veterans, tanks & jeeps, explosives, grenades & mortars... you get it now, we get into it all!
Plus we find out how our guest got started (*spoiler he was 8!) and we get some great advice on everything from finding a good group to where to grab the best gear to look the part.
We somehow talk about even more things, and kept the poor guy for about 3 hours, but we wanted to be thorough, so definitely give this one a listen, you will learn a lot and most likely want to give it a try!

Ian McCollum from ForgottenWeapons.com | PT.1 |
--->GET PART 2 EARLY @ PATREON.COM/milsurpHQ
Holy smokes this one is jammed packed with topics, so much so that we had to make it a two-parter!
This part is the "Interview Segment", where we pry deep into Ian's collection and find out what he has-- the % Modern, MILSURP, French, & "Forgotten" forearms, and see how his collection grew from his first Sporterized Swedish Mauser MILSURP to what it is today.
Then we discuss Ian's three published books a bit and even have an exclusive reveal of the topic of one of the next books in the works!
We proceed to get into the newest and biggest project he has going on- the "History of Weapons & War" app and the site over at weaponsandwar.tv! What is there, why it's there, who is there, and what will be there... all this is answered and will answer all of your questions about "why an app?".
Part 2 coming up is almost 2 hours of basically MILSURP questions only, but at the end of Part 1 we get into some as well when we play a little Trivia.
Machine guns, H&K G11s, Czech semi-autos, anti-tank rifles and Russian contract guns are all in the game and discussed before we sign off Part 1....

The MILSURP HQ team and their trio of informative friends had a friendly game of "Guess the Hammer Prices" with Day 1 of the Poulin Auction using a few dozen selected lots that were MOSTLY MILSURP, with some items estimated over 100k, some under 1k; pistols, snipers, semi-autos.. and even a Panzerschreck, this auction and our list had a big variety!
So...do we have our fingers on the pulse of the online buying community?? Not sure about that, but we had some fun playing.
Our crew of "experts" (pizzabert, Anderson and THE Tenacious Trilobite) help us make our guesses as we go up against 3 tough "Mikes"-- MILSURP YT legend Mike B, "NICE" YouTuber MILSURP MIKE, and our other pal Marine Mike (Just gave him that nickname...)

This man needs a book and a movie!
Right out of the gate we learn about Dennis' Vietnam captures- PERSONALLY captured (wait until you hear how he got the PU Sniper!) and other firearms in his self-imposed restricted 20 gun collection.
We learn how he personally knows about blood pitting effects, starting the passion at 8yo with an Enfield, and why at 13 he'd have dead animals in his trunk while he sat in school.
We get into some of his service as a teen 101st Airborne Combat Medic, saving hundreds of soldiers on his way to three purple hearts!
We get into his wild college years where he toured the country as a successful rock band, playing with lots of hall of fame acts. Look up the Ozark Music Festival of 1974 Wiki to see who he was rubbing elbows with...
He also shares some BIG name celebrity friendships & stories, some actors, musicians, race car drivers-- you've ALL heard of em! There is one ZZ TOP story that is guaranteed to blow your mind, 100%.
We brush upon his successful career as an antique coin salesman, and how museums & dealers call him to this day, and we work our way up through when he made the shift over from coins to full time MILSURP firearms. (The site has remained the same...)
Even his MILSURP stories are wild!
We get into deals involving THOUSANDS of firearms-- wait till you hear how he almost purchased EVERY bolt action from the country of Sweden...
Did you know he had first dibs on the RTI guns out of Ethiopia, flew there, & stood knee deep in goat crap??
Wanna hear how he had Remington AND Hornady work for HIM??
Give this show a listen, you won't want to believe half the stuff, but you will believe it because if this fella is anything, it's honest. Well Lucky and honest... (I won't even get into the 3 plane crashes he's survived!)

PT 2Here we get right back at it with the fellas about the K98k with a not-so-fast Speed Round, and a discussion on SS Rifles and fakes, accessories, ammo, shooting & recoil, snipers & scopes, Grails, other country use, and most important of all, what the next books are about! We evaluate some pickups and fakes, play TRUTH or FUDD LORE to clarify those rumors, spin the Wheel of Milsurp, and find out Mike's never before shared K98k production secret.
-
PT 1We get to know the guys, & hear their story of how the book came to be. We also hear about what these fellas collect, and spoiler, it's K98ks. We start hounding them about all things 98k from who made the best, to what they'd change, and find out where they think it ranks vs the contemporaries. We also jump into a little online purchasing, Mitchells Mausers, why Walther didn't make any full rifles, and are those late Kriegsmodells safe to shoot. Finally we talk refurbs and re-works, and do some Trivia. Jam packed Part 1!

We are back from the 52nd annual Kansas City Missouri Valley Arms Collectors Association Arms Show! We survived our first trip to KC and spoiler alert - the show was amazing.
One of our buds we met up with EVAN joins us for a recap of the show!
We share everything we saw- the prices, the rare & cool stuff, the weird things and discuss all the awesome firearms we played with at the great show.
It was an eventful and full weekend, from the moment we stepped out of the airport into 100+ degree heat to when we were cooling down with a cold beer while handling an old Johnson. (Thanks to Danny from MILSURP WORLD for being a true pal)
Were the rumors of the best deals on the 'Friday setup day' true?
What Fudd lore made an appearance? What new Fudd lore was added?
Did we buy anything? Who won the "coolest item" contest?
Was it very hot there?
Check it out !
