On this episode of Mission Statements: Delta Bravo Urban Exploration Team Podcast, we welcome back prolific explorer and all-around good guy, Danny Johnson. While humility prevents him from accepting the title of M.V.P., DJ has covered more ground on both coasts of the U.S., than most of us in the community. Danny treats us to a recap of the Los Angeles meet-up, from this past summer, the dip in Grasshoff’s pool, and highlights a trip back to Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch’s cabin; a site we visited, but were never able to get past the perimeter fence. In this episode of Mission Statements, Allen Perry and host Andy Katz have a great time talking with Mr. Freeze, of the Rock Steady Crew. The ‘breakdance scene’ from the 1983 movie ‘Flashdance’ brought us together, 40 years after the filming, and Mr. Freeze recounts his memories of filming the groundbreaking dance sequences. Allen had visited the site several years ago, in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, and Andy followed in his footsteps, earlier this year. This discussion was a rare opportunity to directly connect with pop-culture greatness, and document one of our collaborative missions to find an elusive location. An OG member of the Delta Bravo Team, the man responsible for the majority of our logos and design. A family man first, a talented artist and explorer. They chop it up about the Beastie Boys photo shoot, a ton of behind the scenes insight that took place along with it which bleeds into a bunch of stories involving Rage Against the Machine. The amount of stories that Sean has is incredible. He gets into some of the situations that earned him the nickname, the "Angel of Death" of photography. We're headed back to Boston for the second episode in a row with Jimmy Granara as the guest on Episode 024 of Mission Statements.
Jimmy has the same passion like a handful of the Delta Bravo Urban Exploration Team has when it comes to searching out and hitting spots whenever he can. The episodes with these guys are particularly fun and seem to only feel like we've spoken for ten minutes, but almost two hours have gone by.
We talk bucket list spots, locations we've both hit before, the feeling we get when we're in particular places that haven't changed at all over the years and his trips overseas to Italy and London where he hit some of my favorite mashes.

We met up a few weeks back in Boston to hit locations, then met up with Fred Nowosielski, Jimmy Granara, and Tim True at Ernesto's Pizza in Somerville.
Joseph, being a lifelong Boston native, he offered to pick us up from my hotel at 7:30am on Saturday morning. We ripped through the city and before 3pm, we accomplished more than if I was there by myself for three days, all while giving us a history lesson and bringing us to spots that weren't on my list of spots to hit.
An awesome Saturday with Joe, then myself and Danny met up on Sunday and smashed even more. We discuss the ins and the outs of both days along with the meet-up at Ernesto's with the other team members. Just a fun weekend that will happen again in a couple of months, for sure. Episode 022 of Mission Statements with special guest host Andrew Katz. His guest is the legendary photographer David Corio along with director Nick Light.
Andy goes way back into the beginning of David's incredible career from the beginning when he first got into photography at the age of fourteen. Amazing stories about taking photos of Bob Marley in 1980 while being chest deep in a lake shortly after Joe Jackson was hit in the chest by a dead duck somebody threw at him. They go into the Cold Chillin' photo shoot and how easy it was to shoot the late, great Biz Markie in 1988. Covering how Andy met up with David in London and the uncomfortable circumstances that started that meeting. So much was covered here with awesome stories throughout this show. Super entertaining. My guest on Episode 021 is Academy Award Winning Makeup & Effects Artist, John Caglione, Jr.
He won the Academy Award for makeup for "Dicky Tracy" (1990), he created Heath Ledger's Joker makeup for "The Dark Knight", he's pretty much Al Pacino's go-to guy, working on everything from "Donnie Brasco", "Insomnia", "Paterno", "Heat", "The Irishman", "Hunters" (Pacino TV Series) and others. From his beginnings working on Saturday Night Live to cult horror movies such as "Basket Case" and "C.H.U.D." to "Quest for Fire", "Amistad" and "The Departed", not to mention a couple episodes of "The Sopranos". We cover a lot here.
He recently created a YouTube channel and an online workshop for aspiring makeup artists.

My guest on Episode 019 is a resident at the infamous Cecil Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles on skid row as well as an urban explorer, Greg Samsa.
There was new found attention to the Cecil after Netflix aired their limited series, "Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel", which focused on the disappearance of Elisa Lam. If you don't already know, one of the founders of the Delta Bravo Team, Knocko, was interviewed for the documentary.
Once Greg moved i to the Cecil, almost every day he posts insane things that constantly happen there. So I figured I'd ask him to talk about it. From "The Night Stalker" Richard Ramirez to the Black Dahlia and constant chaos from residents and mentally ill. Strap in and enjoy.

Episode 018 of the Mission Statements podcast has dropped everywhere with very special guest Darren Dalton. You probably know him as Randy Anderson, the "good" Soc from The Outsiders, or Darrel from Red Dawn or from over 30 other movies and television shows.
We discuss (of course) his role as Randy, his friendship with C. Thomas Howell since auditioning for The Outsiders and how the book by S.E. Hinton and the movie are timeless and flip generations. The impact Danny Boy has had with what he has done and continues to do in Tulsa, his novel that he has done, the follow-up novel, being a teacher and everything else in between.

My guest is Gary Coulson. Gary has restored and saved the DX Gas Station from "The Outsiders", along with a big part of saving the Rexall Store featured in the deleted scenes (but can be seen in "The Complete Novel" version of the movie).
Initially being unfamiliar with the book or the film, he suddenly found himself in the middle of an amazing restoration project which has brought a new life to Sperry, Oklahoma. and he gives all the credit to Danny O'Connor, which without him, none of this would be happening at all.
We speak all about the renovations, the future plans and projects in that area that are all currently in the works.
This was, as always a very fun conversation.

Chris & Billy Waggoner are two out of the three "52 Pick-Up Kids" from "The Outsiders". They are the guests on Episode 012 of Mission Statements.
One of my all time favorite movies growing up since I first saw it at about five or six years old, then passing it onto my daughter at about the same age, and it being one of her favorites as well. I never thought I'd be having an hour and a half long conversation with these "kids".
We talk about how it was filming the movie, being chased by Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio and C. Thomas Howell about fifty times to get the shot right, Chris getting his head shaved and a ton of other banter. Two really good guys who appreciate their small part in the movie and especially the resurgence of it because of what Danny Boy has created in Tulsa with The Outsiders House Museum.

My man Kevin Bednarz is the guest on Episode 011 of Mission Statements. I first met him in June of 2019 at the "All Star Comic Con" in Virginia, an event he put together. A member of the Delta Bravo Team, an owner of three establishments that happen to be sponsors of the show and an incredible artist.
We talk locations, conventions and we steer into horror and serial killer stuff. Why are we so interested in things like maniacs and murderers? We speak on his annual "Inktober" art work and this year's charity, the Stillbrave Childhood Cancer Foundation... who benefited from the proceeds this year.
I stopped in Purcellville, Virginia towards the end of my road trip in July, ate and chopped it up for a while. We touch on a topic we've been casually throwing around from time to time and hopefully sooner rather than later, myself, Kevin and a couple two, three other people will pull the trigger and make it come to fruition.
