Season 6 is off to a fun start as the crew encounter "The People Under the Stairs", Wes Craven's 1991 Horror Comedy. Comedy? Really? Goofy, perhaps . . .
Mary's cocktail was, as ever, delightful
"The Landlord’s Chimney"2 ounces gin
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
3/4 ounce cherry liquor
1 small or medium egg whiteCombine all ingredients in a glass and shake vigorously over ice to get the egg white to froth. Strain into a Collins glass and garnish with a lime peel (not unlike a fresh green dollar bill!).

The crew stumble upstairs and bump into 2019's "The Girl on the Third Floor", directed and co-written by Travis Stevens and starring Phil "CM Punk" Brooks (who looks a HELL of a lot like a hybrid of Dick York and Dick Sargent of "Bewitched").

4 oz Cranberry juice
2 oz Cherry juice
1 oz lime
2 oz Ginger AlePour all ingredients in shaker, shake well.

The crew chat with Austin Jennings, co-creator and director of "The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs" about his just-released movie, "Eight Eyes". Austin gave everyone an in-depth look at the creation of his wonderfully nasty little film, a Vinegar Syndrome release, scheduled to show on SHUDDER starting September 23. Strongly recommended.

The crew get all warm and fuzzy watching Cushing and Lee together again, in 1973's "The Creeping Flesh", directed by the fantastic Freddie Francis. Better than cold and slimy, right???
Mary's Challman strength cocktail was another winner. Yum!

2/3 oz. Luxardo
2/3 oz. Freshly squeezed lime juice
1/4 oz. Ice cold waterShake all ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a coupe glass, and garnish with several cherries stacked together on a cocktail skewer (mimicking a severed finger)!

The crew checks out Dan Curtis' 1970 movie, "House of Dark Shadows", the first of two big screen versions of his "Dark Shadows" TV soap opera.
Mary learns all about the Dark Shadows series, and the conversation runs far and wide, helped along by Dave's thinly-veiled Rum and Coke cocktail."Barnabas' Black Blood" cocktail
2 oz. DARK Rum1 oz. Cherry Liqueur
In ice-filled low ball glass/ rocks glass, top with Coke, garnish with orange twist.
Enjoy this thinly disguised Rum and Coke!

The crew gasps in horror (and giggles) as Michael Caine's character loses his hand in 1981, "The Hand", from writer/director Oliver Stone. Sir Michael may have been simply been paying for his garage with this baby, but it WAS quite entertaining.
“The Severed Hand” cocktail1.5 oz. Spiced Rum
75 oz. Cherry Liqueur
.33 oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
.75 oz. fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice
.33 oz. simple syrup
6 drops of pimento bittersShake all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker and strain into a coupe glass. Garner with a twist of lemon and a maraschino cherry.
Enjoy!

The crew are still processing their thoughts about the hard-to-classify film, 1990's "The Reflecting Skin". It's a good thing they are all of a bright and cheerful disposition . . .
Whew.
Scott's cocktail is MIGHTY fine - and much more uplifting than the movie.
"The Flaming Dove” cocktailIngredients:
.75 oz butterscotch schnapps
.50 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
.25 oz Grenadine or Raspberry Syrup
.50 oz 151 RumInstructions:
- optimally serve in 3 oz chilled shot glass.
-pour schnapps in glass.
- use spoon to gently pour Irish Cream over schnapps in separate layer.
- pour grenadine or syrup in same manner.
- top with 151 Rum.
- sprinkle lightly with cinnamon & nutmeg (optional)
- light surface of drink with lighter. Spices should “spark” as ignited.

Hello, friends -
We are taking a month-long break to wrap up personal and professional business, recharge our batteries and track down murderous beasties in the wilderness. Rest assured, we will be back sometime in June, with all new episodes and cocktails.
Cheers! -
The crew get a little TOO excited by the excess shown in this 1934, pre-code thriller starring Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, some black cats and a few faintly glimpsed nipples.
And don't get Scott started on the skin flaying scene . . .
Speaking of Scott, his cocktail was just what the Doctor ordered.
The "Poelzig"cocktail
In a highball glass filled with ice, pour, and then gently stir the following ingredients:2 oz Vodka
2 oz Cherry Brandy or Cherry Schnapps
4 oz Cherry Cola
2 oz Cranberry Juice
1/2 tsp. Juice from Luxardo cherries, (or Maraschino as substitute) in addition to 2-3 cherries for garnish.
Enjoy!

The crew lose their minds over John Carpenter's 1994, "In the Mouth of Madness", and get all "Lovecrafty" . . . so be prepared for the usual diversions and rabbit holes.
Dave's cocktail, like the village of Hobb’s End, seems sweet (and somewhat bland) on the surface, but will get you in the end.
"Hobb’s End Punch"2 oz dark rum (Cruzan blackstrap rum)
1 oz lemon juice
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz grenadine
.5 oz simple syrup
SEVERAL dashes of Angostura bitters
(Note - if you add orange juice, this becomes "Dave's Rum Punch".)
Shake to combine, pour over ice.Enjoy

Whew. The crew watched Ari Aster's "2018 Hereditary" shortly after its release, and were so shaken by it that they vowed never to watch it again.
So . . . here they go again! Gluttons for punishment - and devotees of well crafted movies - they girdled their loins, strode forth into the maelstrom and subjected themselves to its unique "charms". All for YOU, dear listener. All for you.
Mary's cocktail was needed.
The "Scorched Body" cocktail
1.5 oz. Laphroaig Scotch – or a similar “peaty” Scotch
1.5 oz. Cocchi Americano
1.5 oz. AperolCombine all ingredients in a mixing glass filled with ice. STIR until frigid, and garnish with a Luxardo cherry (floating on the bottom, of course, not unlike a decapitated noggin).

The gang fall under the hallucinogenic influence of 2007's horror film, "Shrooms". Scott teases us with the notion that he considered adding mushrooms to his cocktail recipe - but wisely chose not to.
The "Murderous Mushroom" cocktailIngredients:
2 oz spiced rum
1 oz Maraschino cherry liqueur
1 oz apple cider or juice
.5 oz honey
.5 oz lime juice
Lime wheel or wedge (for garnish)Instructions:
1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the spiced rum, cherry liqueur, apple cider, honey syrup, and lime juice.
2. Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to combine and chill the ingredients.
3. Strain the mixture into a coupe glass.
4. Place a lime wheel or wedge on the rim.

As the crew prepare to record a slew of new episodes, we offer up this selection of dramatized "adventures" from past seasons. Think of them as a nod to the radio shows of old - without the same talent! We won't be offended if you hit the fast forward button.

2 oz. Gin
.5 oz. Genepy (or another bitter herbal liqueur)

The gang seek shelter in 1932's "The Old Dark House" and have a grand old time with the denizens and travelers found within, though Dave has to call from the future a few times. Scott's hot shot cocktail was a hit.

1 oz. Brandy
1 oz Pear liqueur
1 Tsp. Golden Rum
Instructions:
Pour brandy and liquor into a shot glass. Heat and ignite rum in a spoon, and add to the glass. Extinguish flame, and serve.

To kick off the New Year, Scott, Mary and Dave buckle themselves in, drink a glass of Tang and blast into the outer space, where they experience the horrors of 1997's "Event Horizon". Mary gushes over Sam Neill repeatedly, but you knew that was going to happen, didn't you?
Actually, no Tang was consumed during this recording, but plenty of Mary's cocktail was.
“Gouged Eye” cocktail2 oz White Rum
1/2 oz Maraschino Liqueur
3/4 oz Lime juice
1/2 oz fresh-squeezed Grapefruit juice (Dave and Scott used Pineapple juice)Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake until cold, and strain into a coupe glass.

In this Christmas episode the gang is visited by Hammer Studio's 1966, "Rasputin the Mad Monk" and at least ONE of the trio is thoroughly enchanted by Christopher Lee's performance . . . can you guess who?
Murderous computer HAL Jr is once again making his presence known. If only it had been "presents", but we don't think HAL Jr celebrates the season. Ah, well.
For his holiday cocktail, Dave combines suitable "Russian" ingredients and it ends up tasting like cheap Port wine. Dave LIKES cheap Port wine.
Happy New Year!
"Rasputin's Blood" cocktail3 parts Madeira Wine (Allegedly loved by Rasputin)
2 parts Vodka (Obvious Russian connection, right?)
1 part Cherry Syrup (Cherry Varenya, a tea sweetener made by many Russians)Pour over ice in an Old Fashioned glass, stir until cold, express oil from an Orange peel over the drink and add the peel as a garnish.
