I'm deep in dreaming about the future....
I'm migrating my online pain science program to a new platform. I'm going to be filling my brain wiht incredible hypnosis training this month embodying change work on topics like shame, trauma, nervous system repair, self concept and psychedelic states, and maybe even some weird stuff like past life regression and accessing relaxing trance states.
Who knows what will happening after attending Hypnothoughts Live. But I know that I haven't been very focused here. So my apologies. Even if I'm not on here creating a podcast, I am working with clients helping them create powerful embodied shifts in their wellbeing and I thought I'd just share a little bit of that with you today.
If you are curious about mindbody coaching and how we can use the mind and somatics to create less pain and more of the life you want to live, I would love to talk to you. You can find the link to my calendar at my website - www.movewithdeb.com -
I share with you my recent experience of having Covid and the mindbody medicine informed methods I used to help me decrease fear and recover without lingering symptoms. I share other recovery stories and first person information about people who have recovered from lingering symptoms colloquially known as "long covid". I hope that my process is helpful for you.
If you would like to chat with me - here's a link to book a free Curiosity Call -

What different people across the mindbody medicine field are discovering are the similarities between Covid symptoms and other long term chronic pain/illness symptoms and how the pain-fear-pain cycle plays into the perpetuation of symptoms after the body has recovered. So using this same approach they're seeing good responses.
Here's some resources that I've both listened to or read directly or have been told about through my colleagues.
https://www.positivelycovid.org/
https://www.longcovidcured.com/ - this has some great recovery stories - including Paul Garner, infectious disease Dr.
https://www.longcovidcured.com/about - this is a lovely list of various resources. I can offer people 6 weeks free of the Curable app if anyone wants to try that.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/jun/10/long-covid-hope-recovery-symptoms - Dr. Garner's story of recovery
https://www.recoverynorway.org/2023/01/23/long-covid-recovery-gary/ - I like how Gary describes his understanding of the mindbody recovery process.
https://www.thismighthurtfilm.com/long-covid - Neuroplastic pain recovery resources from the team at This Might Hurt documentary
https://youtu.be/4vF0XNBTv9A - Interview with Dr. Schubiner, explaining the mindbody process to address Long Covid
This is probably MORE than enough. It's all pretty much the same content (how to change the body experience, through retraining the brain) just through different lenses.
Happy to share more. I think just learning that recovery is possible even begins the change due to predictive processing. -

This episode I lead you through the work of PRT, Pain Reprocessing Therapy and how it ties into Intentional Thought Creation and the mindbody process, changing our physiological and emotional experiences. I share a story about the power of an audacious thought I practiced on my way to a party and also one of my favorite thoughts when dealing with triggering memories.
Change is always possible, we are never helpless, no matter how we feel about any circumstance or situation. Learning how to apply these tools have changed so many lives and it's possible for you too.
Book a curiosity call and let's talk about how you can work with me. https://calendly.com/paincoachdeb

In this episode I share how my clients' evocative metaphor work included imagery around floating and water which led me to remember the work of Dr. Claire Weekes and her book, Hope and Help for Your Nerves Hardcover – January 1, 1969.
When we are using a mindbody approach to healing it can feel kind of exhausting to remember and use all these tools, and especially if we are in a panic to not feel uncomfortable stuff. So learning to surrender, to float, is a very powerful message to our nervous system that there is no THREAT. It's not the same kind of dorsal freeze of a small animal pretending to be dead, no, it's the conscious releasing of tension using visualization and self trust which evokes the felt sense of safety, of OKness. Here's some links to articles about her approach to anxiety - https://www.anxietycoach.com/claire-weekes.html
https://www.tmswiki.org/ppd/Overcome_Anxiety_with_Dr._Claire_Weekes
As you listen, remember it's not about knowing this stuff intellectually but being willing to play and practice these experiences in your body. Just like reading about weight lifting isn't the same as visualizing yourself lifting or actual weight lifting.

This podcast discussed the process of training our attention system on purpose, teaching ourselves how to use our past experiences in service for our future selves.
Proceeding into our today and tomorrow self benefits from wearing gentle goggles when we look in the rear view mirror.
I discuss some client stories and explore my own around moving and how I navigate efforting, physical pain and unlearning old conditioned responses.
How we pay attention and build belief in change, is a foundation of neuro + bio plasticity.
We illuminate, learn and practice with intention and exquisite self care in my coaching container.
If you don't know how to do that, I promise to teach you.
Learn how to stop shitting on past you in service of future you.

Today's podcast I'm reflecting on conversations I've had with clients and myself about noticing shame and finding our way to the other side.
I'm calling this a practice of Catch + Release Shame. Learning how to lean into what we usually avoid is the beginning of changing everything.
When I asked my client for permission to share some of our conversation on the podcast, this was her response:
"Specifically, if you'd like more client perspective when you share: "your client" found that there was hidden shame, like in the "little" things they would not have guessed would have shame around them. This is because they consider themselves very open and shame-free when it comes to the things that society is so often shaming people for (gender, body size/hair, kinks, etc.) so they assumed there was no shame. Nope. They were blind to the little shames and grateful you pointed them out so they could explore the why's and work to release them, thus allowing enjoyment to fill that space, instead. I hope our "discoveries" help others 💓"

Oh the irony, I realized that in describing this idea WE didn't practice it. But I think that's not the easiest thing to do on a podcast because it needs empty air time. Soooooooooooo this is to put the ideas in your head what you can practice in the non-podcast time.

I share experiences around giving feedback as an employee, how to work through a fight/flight response to be able to "see" one's loved one again and how imagining someone in their whole self/whole state can create change even without knowing "why" it works.

This is my riff off of new research about Misophonia and how it's not about sounds but it's about the perceived violation of our bodily autonomy in some people, our bodies are mirroring the motor patterns.
If we extend this metaphor, can we explore all other sensory inputs as well as the inputs of social, cultural and familial beliefs, thoughts and feelings? What is ours, what is theirs, and how can we strengthen our own human envelope against undesired permeability?
Here's the Scientific American article - https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/misophonia-might-not-be-about-hating-sounds-after-all/

In this episode, I share 3 short clips, 2 post gym videos I made one week to the next that I meant to but never posted on IG- https://www.instagram.com/movewithdeb/ and a short fun clip with my trainer Melissa - https://www.instagram.com/lamaliciabkln/ It's sometimes hard to be Jewish, Neurodivergent and record interviews as I have a (get excited to share and also cultural norms of talking over/with others). But you can hear what she's saying and more important what she's adding into the conversation about how to listen without storytelling. I feel so lucky to have had this experience of working with her as my trainer and I'm really lucky to have myself, because I know how to listen to what I need and take my needs seriously and find amazing collaborators! In this podcast, you get to listen in on my conversation with Paula about what it was like to work on pain recovery after getting cleared from her Doctor and having spent a long time in PT.
We have a foundation of using Thought Work and The Model which comes from The Life Coach School, and we are both members of The Clutch, a feminist coaching community created by Kara Loewentheil.
I am also an LCS trained coach and completed my Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching with Kara this past year. Thoughtwork, The Model, Feminism, and understanding of the neuroscience of pain all blend together in my coaching practice with my clients.
There's many roads to change, to mindbody change and shifting out of pain into a greater sense of wellbeing. I'm happy to be a guide for your explorations. If you're interested in having a consultation with me, please book a free half hour curiosity call. https://calendly.com/paincoachdeb -

Examining our pain behaviors is an unavoidable important step for pain recovery, mind body healing and change work. Listen in and then apply this to yourself.
Here's two articles about pain behaviors. The abstract from a chapter on Pain Behaviors with citations.

This episode I am riffing more on the "change is weird" theme I started last week. This week I had an experience with a flight being cancelled and I noticed how unusually calm I was. I wasn't trying to be calm, I just was.
And that embodied change was created through the mindbody practices I have been using and teaching, especially my hybrid hypnocoaching work. My old habituated responses got unwired enough so that they couldn't get picked up and associated into in the ways they had previously and that's just so fascinating and amazing to experience.
Change is possible. I want you to have more of what you want to be experiencing in life. Please listen and see how this might relate to you and your current mindbody experience. This episode I share a story with you about a friend and I changing her morning panic in a New York City diner and how we can embrace the process of change as something we are capable of doing because of how our brain works.
I get a little into how I want to change my relationship to making this podcast and getting more of the feelings I want to have more of. And I discuss how WEIRD it can feel when things we are used to dealing with so much changes and how to embrace the weird.

In this podcast I talk about some of the physiological ways our body processes stress, yawning, crying, spontaneous inhalation. (I don't get sciencey)
You can find more information about this from the book Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle, coauthors (and twin sisters) Emily and Amelia Nagoski.
I'm also currently studying with Dr. Amy Apigian in her 21 Day Journey to Calm Aliveness in which she shares Somatic Experiencing exercises.
This episode is about how to use this reframe as a way to shift out of shame into curiosity. I share some of my hiking experiences in Iceland, especially when I was walking on a Glacier! Can you get into that curiosity approach?

Hello again, I've been gone, kind of hiding a bit because I've been dealing with some pain and that's been causing me to feel some fear and shame and creating difficulty in wanting to show up in this podcasting space. Here's a little story, as I like to tell about my endlessly fascinating experience in a human body. There's a second part that will follow up as I share the report of my x-ray and a conversation with my colleague, Charlie Merrill, PT.
