In tribute of the late Sam Neill, I brought Maeve back onto the show to talk about Paul W.S. Anderson's sci-fi horror cult film Event Horizon. It was critically blasted upon release. Decades later, it has influenced a lot of sci-fi video games such as Dead Space and the iconic scene of Sam Neill using a piece of paper to illustrate how a wormhole works has been used in in movies like Interstellar.
We also find a way to shit on the Miami Dolphins this episode.
Event Horizon stars Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson and Jason Isaacs.

Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind premiered in Japan to good reviews. A year later, an awful cut of the film emerged in North America called Warriors of the Wind which misread the tone of the movie and featured a bad English dub. That bad dub changed anime in the west because Miyazaki's hatred of it had him and his people threaten Harvey Weinstein with a prop katana when he wanted to cut Princess Mononoke over a decade later. Miyazaki's films now have quality English dubs, which exposed audiences to anime and eventually Nausicaä received a proper uncut Western release in 2005.

No children were killed in helicopter accidents during this particular John Landis production.
This week on the show I'm joined by Charles Star to discuss the spy comedy Spies Like Us! It was received pretty weakly but on its 40th anniversary many articles popped up praising the Cold War setting of the kind of movie that does not get made much anymore.
I was shocked there was a Paul McCartney song attached to this film.
Spies Like Us was directed by child murderer John Landis. It stars Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Donna Dixon, Bruce Davison, William Prince, Tom Hatten, Bernie Casey, and Steve Forrest. Featuring cameos by Costa-Gavras, Ray Harryhausen, Joen Coen, Sam Raimi, Martin Brest, Bob Hope, B.B. King, Michael Apted, Larry Cohen, Edwin Newman, Frank Oz and Terry Gilliam.

They finally made a new James Bond video game! In celebration of the release of 007 First Light, I'm using it as a chance to discuss my favourite film franchise again. I am joined by my GG Tribune editor Matt Fresh to discuss a film that was ahead of its time in depicting the role media uses technology to manipulate the public and manufacture consent to justify military action.
It also has Pierce Brosnan eject a terrorist from the back of his jet into another terrorists plane and Michelle Yeoh kicking dudes in the face.
Tomorrow Never Dies is directed by Roger Spottiswoode. It stars Pierce Brosnan, Jonathan Pryce, Michele Yeoh, Teri Hatcher, Joe Don Baker, Desmond Llewelyn, Ricky Jay and Judi Dench.

It was the first video game movie that ever made actual money. However, the lack of the series signature gore and violence as well as the cheap acting had people criticize this film upon release. It was a forgotten film made by a fertilizer salesman on a bet in 1966. It fell into complete obscurity until it was discovered and riffed on in a classic episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Now the film has a reputation as being the worst film ever made which of course gives it a unique kind of second life thanks to fans of bad cinema. It has a cult following which has led to a Kickstarter sequel and a prequel film.
To discuss this atrocious film I am joined again by MLYP. We talk about how Something Awful users have restored this film and we go through the little plot of the film exhaustively. Torgo forever.

Last weekend I went to the 2026 edition of the TIFF Next Wave Film Festival. It is a young adult oriented film festival programmed by a committee of Toronto area high school students put on by the Toronto International Film Festival. I saw a bunch of the films programmed. This bonus episode is about my thoughts on the films that I saw. All of them first or second features by exciting up and coming directors.

With the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie on the way we are going back in time to the first live-action video game movie ever made: Super Mario Bros. with Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Samantha Mathis and Dennis Hopper.
The creative freedoms taken by the married director pair deviate wildly from the game and for decades people considered this to be one of the worst movies ever made. However, the liberties and production design are so excessive that it has a cult following and a very expensive boxset that die-hard fans can enjoyed.

Sucker Punch was critically panned when it came out but it has its shooters who appreciate Snyder's audacity and creative vision. It's the movie with the fake baby.
Clint Eastwood's depiction of the late Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in American history, was a smash hit. Immediately upon release articles came out pushing back on various claims of his life story. Mainly on how he made up events where he killed even more people outside of war.
I am joined by Jacob from the Workers' Lit Podcast to discuss this simplified story of an uncomplicated figure as well as the genre of war film that is patriotic, problematic and propagandic. The reception of the film is roughly the same but the events depicted are drastically more unpopular than ever.
