Music 4 Change:
Background: Nigeria has had a problem of corruption, which we hear more and more about in the news and in our daily conversations. There is a much higher perception of corruption than actual reported experiences, and although Nigeria’s ranking among countries internationally has been improving, still the situation is cause for great concern. Nigeria was ranked 144 out of 175 counties in the 2018 report of a Corruption Perception Index (CPI) compiled by watchdog organization Transparency.
This was our best ranking in five years! However we cannot be complacent, as one of our leading newspapers reported the following in December 2012: It’s more than a ‘government’ and ‘them’ problem.
Many people think corruption is the problem of Government or business people. That is not true. The general citizenry including our young people participate in corrupt behaviour which we see as ‘beating the system’ and getting a ‘bly’. We are all affected by the impact or cost of corruption.
Nigeria Integrity Action (NIA) is a non-profit organization aimed at Combating corruption in Nigeria through education, encouraging anti-corruption vigilance and activism, and through lobbying the government to enforce anti-corruption laws. The NIA aims to continue its anti-corruption drive until tangible changes are seen; hence we introduce Music 4 Change is a radio Programme designed to promote nationalism, re-orientation and the sprite of self-reliance among the Nigerian youth.
Our strategy is to make youths change agents; work towards Nigeria’s greatness, thereby building a great future for our beloved country, Nigeria. Any country that leaves her youths untrained should expect no development. Therefore, this project should not be just an event, but a process of all round development of the Nigerian youth.
This project seeks to empower the youth and make them role models and active stakeholders in the ongoing fight against corruption in our beloved country, Nigeria.
As the way forward, all hands must be on deck to invest in the youth. Indeed, we believe that “the future of any nation lies in her youth”. Therefore, the youth should be at the centre of the planning, execution and evaluation of any national programme. By developing this training programme for youth, NIA hope to strengthen their capacity as primary message carriers to their families and peers within and outside of the school community and to instil the principles of integrity - a critical step towards positively impacting individual and community values, attitudes and behaviours and contributing to building a better nation.
In order to achieve the above stated, we are determined to actively engaged 60,000 Nigeria Young Integrity Ambassadors in every State of the Federation including FCT under the ToT Phase 1.
Aims and objectives:
a) To encourage Nigerians especially the youth to believe in Nigeria, work and pray for her development and progress.
b) To create the awareness and support for the Government Anti-corruption fight in Nigeria and her programmes.
c) To help in producing a crime-free Nigeria and a more productive country through our In-school Integrity Project.
d) To create youth-friendly environment for the youth to discuss all the issues that affect them directly or indirectly.
e) To help in discovering of the hidden talents of Nigerian youths.
f) To create a mutually rewarding partnership with the co-operate bodies and the entire Nigerian youth.
g) To create a platform for interaction and feedback.
