Ever since I described today’s guest to my wife – Asian, handsome, fit, cowboy – she’s been looking at me weird. Like when you bought a couch that you really wanted but now looks like shit in your living room and you’re struggling with throwing away. God fearing, guided by his faith, and he calls me, “sir.” I haven’t been called “sir” since I was at that one massage parlor. You know what I’m talking about. Leave your keys on the counter, that’s the sign. Officer Bob is a city cop who is deliberate on every single call and with every single citizen interaction. His driving force? Humanity, humility, and empathy. You’ll walk away from his episode with a smile on your face and warmth in your heart. And crotch.

Don’t call him autistic. The politically correct term is, “acoustic.” Like a guitar. This guest surprised me. Happy-go-lucky, little bit of a meathead, and he sounds like someone procreated with a relative somewhere along the family tree. But he comes from trauma, makes a difference, and he approaches calls and citizens with a big grin, can-do attitude, and is just learning to put one foot in front of the other every day. Don’t you hate it when a guy’s so much better than you? It’s even worse when he’s nice, well-liked, and he’s got six-pack abs. Even two out of the three is annoying. Today, we’re talking to Officer “D,” a hard worker just doing his job with discipline and restraint. He knows that the immense power of not only his job but his very particular set of skills (yes, it’s a “Taken” reference from 2008, get over it) only increases the burden and responsibility of serving the populace. He’s the textbook definition of “just because you can, doesn’t mean you have to.” Or however the stupid saying goes.

Today's guest is Bob, who was hired by his first law enforcement agency at the age of 19. He was in the Academy learning about Penal Code and shooting firearms while still growing pubes. (We assume.) Now that he's on the job, he applies his level thinking, open mindedness, and willingness to accomplish the mission: doing his damn job. He admits he came from a privileged background and postures himself to learn and grow. He builds maturity with each call and you'll hear him talk about the small steps he takes to eventually make big changes in the lives of the people he serves. And hopefully, things are all fully formed down there. We didn't ask to look.
