Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a burst of pure adrenaline that goes off-the-walls crazy with unbelievable practical stunts and a truly triumphant character. At 80-years-old director George Miller is still achieving the impossible as he delights audiences to wasteland battles that baffle and dazzle in equal measure. The creative endeavour behind crafting these incredible war machines is nothing short of impressive and the added depth of the story and characters helps emphasize the importance of those rigs. Anya Taylor-Joy steps into the role played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road and completely embodies her pain and power as she fights off the wicked Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) in hopes of returning to the place of green abundance where she was stolen from. The perfect marriage of technical wizardry and fantastic storytelling comes alive during Furiosa and it's best to take in this Godly sight on the largest screen you can find before it's too late!

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes continues the story of Caesar's legacy generations later in a fascinating new tale populated with incredible new characters. As the simian flu rages on leaving the few humans left largely unable to speak, the Apes only continue to grow in their intelligence and their numbers, spreading out across the country and breaking off into different factions. When a young Eagle Clan Ape named Noa loses his people to an advantageous ape called Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand), Noa must work to find a way to free his people, even if it means working alongside a human. This latest entry into the Apes Saga builds on the momentum and story of Caesar and finds a brilliant way to examine how the teachings of leaders are passed down and potentially warped over time, With more Apes and fewer humans than ever, the motion capture and effects completely captivate your eyes as you can no longer distinguish the difference between real apes. The first film in a planned trilogy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes makes for a terrific time and lays the groundwork for another outstanding exploration of the Planet of the Apes.

Hit Man reunites rising star Glen Powell with the ever incredible Richard Linklater in a rom-com that offers plenty of laughs and introspective insight. Based on a true story inspired by an incredible Texas Monthly article, Hit Man follows Powell's banal college professor as he works sting operations for the Orland Police on the side. Working to uncover those that would put out a hit on loved ones or rivals, Powell's character breezes through field duties until he meets a young woman who seemingly has no way out of her marriage who might put his whole operation at jeopardy. Streaming now on Netflix, Hit Man is well worth the watch for the great time and laughter it provides. A breezy time with a sprinkle of that signature elevated Linklater dialogue.

Disney and Star Wars are back to tell a new story in the franchise called The Acolyte set 100-years before the events of The Phantom Menace. As the Jedi grow comfortable with their positions of power and influence, a dark magic brews behind the scenes and sets forth a mystery after a respected Jedi Master is murdered in cold blood. Heavily influenced by the world building of the Clone Wars TV series, The Acolyte builds on the notion that force-sensitivity exists outside of Jedi and Sith Lords and manages to tell a more adult tale without completely sacrificing the lighthearted nature of the prequel films. Episodes 1 and 2 are out now on Disney+ and you're going to want to take a listen to our thoughts here and then go check out the series for yourself! It's refreshing to see a Star Wars show reflect the quality of its budget again!

Resynator is the documentary feature which won the audience award at the 2024 SXSW film festival and now it's captivating audiences at the 2024 Seattle International Film Festival. A story about a young woman finding the Synthesiser her father built 25 years prior, director Alison Tavel explores the man behind the machine as she interviews his friends and family in hopes of discovering who he really was. Alison's father Don passed shortly after her birth and though she grew up with a terrific family, there was always more to her father's story that she felt she was never told and during her journey to discover that she also ends up learning more about herself along the way. This documentary feature is incredibly engaging and speaks to the power of vulnerability and how much it can really help heal people as well. I had the great pleasure of talking with Writer/Director Alison Tavel about her journey in making the film and dissecting familial relationships in an effort to better understand our parents and other generations. Due to the length of the interview I’ve included a summary of some of the discussion points below and will link the full audio conversation through various platforms right below here as well.

04:03 Working with Analog Synthesizers
05:29 Uncovering the Truth About a Parent
07:51 The Complexity of Family Relationships
12:14 The Power of Writing Letters

Bob Trevino Likes It won the audience award at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival and after having a chance to see it at SIFF 2024 I can completely understand how it captured the hearts and minds of the audiences. It's a beautiful look at a young woman who's real father abandons her and the friendship she creates with a kindhearted man who shares her father's name on Facebook. Inspired by writer/director Tracie Laymon's real life experience, Bob Trevino Likes It bears its soul and tells an unbelievably uplifting story of chosen family and learning to choose what's best for yourself in your own life. This year at the Seattle International Film Festival I was fortunate enough to speak with Tracie Laymon and had the absolute best time learning more about the experience behind Bob Trevino Likes It.

For SIFF 2024 I had the esteemed pleasure of getting to interview Chasing Time co-directors Jeff Orlowski-Yang and Sarah Keo. A 40-minute documentary short that serves as a companion piece to Orlowski-Yang's 2012 film Chasing Ice, Chasing Time examines the data behind the melting of glaciers worldwide and reunites Orlowski-Yang with Jame Balog, the founder of the Extreme Ice Survey. Equal parts beautiful and devastating, this short packs an emotional punch as the evidence is irrefutable and the human story at the core of the film is incredibly enduring. This was such a great discussion to be a part of I would urge any who listen to see out Chasing Ice and that you keep an eye out for Chasing Time.

Thelma was the opening night film for the 50th Anniversary of the Seattle International Film Festival. A film about a grandmother who gets scammed and goes on independent ops to get her money back, Thelma touches on the way we view age and how it's okay to be vulnerable when asking for help. I had the great privilege of sitting down with Director and Writer Josh Margolin, as well as stars June Squibb and Fred Hechinger. The conversation was as lovely as the film is and I'm so excited to share it with you in advance of the film's release!

The Fall Guy makes for a lovely and entertaining romantic comedy, but it fails to achieve its full potential as a stunt work showcase for Hollywood’s unsung action heroes. For months now, many in the film and online community have heralded The Fall Guy as a love letter to the old action films Hollywood used to make and they’ve claimed that it honors the men and women who beat their bodies up to make the stars look great on camera. This reaction had me quite excited because action choreography is such an overlooked art that has long deserved recognition from the Academy Awards, and the bonus is that this film is helmed by someone who’s been an integral part in 21st century film action. There are a multitude of reasons why this film could have been something truly special but leave it to Hollywood to shift focus to where they think the money is.

Led by an incredible trio of talented performers, Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers delivers a steamy look at a unique love triangle built on competition and friendship. Setting a story of love, betrayal, and rivalry against the backdrop of professional tennis made for a rather entertaining time as energy and tension was rallied back and forth. With a non-linear approach to the story, Challengers teases the audience with flashes of shocking moments that keep things unexpected and wildly entertaining. It’s sexy. It’s sensual. It’s seriously something special!
