We start October on a very windy note, thanks to a low pressure system located in southern Canada. Saturday kicks off with strong winds in the western Dakotas, moving to the eastern part of the tri-state region later in the day. The strong west wind could see some areas with gusts up to 50 mph in North Dakota.

The sunshine and well above average temperatures will coast into the final weekend of September. Saturday brings a near picture perfect day, with plenty of sunshine and light winds in the region. Sunday brings similar conditions in terms of sunshine for most of the day.

While some will stay warm for Saturday, much of the Northland is getting a taste of fall this weekend. Saturday we are tracking a cold front moving on through the region, which after bringing a chance for showers to northwest Minnesota Friday night, it will continue to bring rain chances further to the southeast on Saturday.

Wrapping up the week on Friday will bring a chance of rain for portions of the Northland. For Friday night, the best chance for rain will be across northern Minnesota into the Red River Valley as a cold front moves on through. By Saturday, the chances for rain across northern Minnesota dwindle down, however we could still see more showers popping up across central and southern Minnesota by Saturday afternoon.

Another warm front will lift through the region on Friday, raising the dial for temperatures and humidity as we head into the weekend. Highs on Saturday will largely be in the 80s, with some 90s in southwestern locations, as skies look partly to mostly sunny. Sunday is warm but with a change late in the day as precipitation chances increase in the west.

Most of the Northland will look to start the weekend on a mild note, with a few showers still exiting the North Shore Friday evening. By Saturday though, rain pushes out entirely into Wisconsin, while the rest of the region looks to stay dry, aside from a chance of a few isolates showers across western North Dakota.

As the previous system continues to push off to the east, we look largely dry under high pressure across most of the region on Saturday. Skies look to be partly to mostly sunny as well, with sunshine more likely the further north you are. Highs reach the 70s across the Northland. Sunday looks pleasant as well with some precipation chances across South Dakota.
