His remarkable memory brings to life the photographs and items that he shares his home with
because they are his Family History., He was born on Moonshine Hill in his parents home
where he continues to live today. Hope you enjoy the journey.

“A lonely historical marker sits on the side of FM 1960 outside of Humble, Texas. You would probably drive right past it. But, if you’re curious and stop to read the sign, you might also meet one of the last residents of Moonshine Hill, whose house is just behind that marker. Billy Sheffield is 93 years old and his family has been in the area for over 100 years.”

I met Mr. Billy at the www.GoodOilDays.com

Alpha Oil Tools posted a “Happy Birthday” message and short video on their LinkedIn page that read:

“Happy 85th Birthday to a REAL legacy in our industry, Mr. Morris Fleming. Morris started working for Halliburton in 1960, was on his first frac job in 1966, and has made countless contributions to our industry in drilling, well completions, well service, downhole tools, plug and abandonment, and many, many others. His wisdom is only surpassed by his kindness and his friendship. He is always quick to share his knowledge to benefit others and we should know because Alpha Oil Tools is one of the biggest beneficiaries of them all!!! Thank you, Morris, and Happy Birthday!

His amazing career started in the 1960’s and continues today.

He attended the 5th Course Halliburton ever put on for Drill Stem Testing & Special Tools on September 27th, 1969.

Mr. Carl Gay reached out and helped with the introductions
and I couldn’t get to Dallas fast enough

  • Andy Brosig, Senior Reporter / Photographer

While attending New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) to learn about their Lease Pumper Program, someone (unbeknownst to Me) contacted the Hobbs Sun Newspaper about possibly doing an interview with me.

In walks Mr. Andy with his large DSL Camera hung around his neck and notepad in hand. Exactly what you would expect from a news man.

We both recorded His interview of me
that resulted in a Front Page article for Oilfield Talk (a first!).

and I had bet them back-to back at the crowded festival. Both are wonderful people and introduced me and Oilfield Talk to several people. Thank you!

    Robert Meaux

The Humble Museum originally opened as the Humble Bicentennial Museum in 1976, as an outgrowth of the City's U.S. Bicentennial Celebrations. The city built a museum building on Higgins Street, on the west side of the railroad tracks.

In the late 1980s, the museum purchased the old Centel Telephone building at 219 Main Street, on the east side of the railroad tracks. This building was damaged during Hurricane Harvey, forcing the museum to close in August 2017.

Starting in 2019, the City renovated the old band hall building at Charles Bender High School for the museum. The museum moved its collection into the new building in March 2020, just before the COVID quarantine began. After months of work building new displays, the new Humble Museum opened on November 14, 2020.

  • R I F or Reduction in Force is just another way to say you are / have been “Laid Off” where the end result is, you are Unemployed and without a Job.

This is what happened to me last Wednesday

I got “The Call” we all dread on the 6th of March, 2024
after almost 27 years with the same company
‘Your Services Are No Longer Required’.

    Quite the Gut-Punch
and felt like my feet were swept right out from under me
I wasn’t expecting it. We knew people were going to be let go, but I had been told that I was being retained
and back to my previous position as “Float” or “Fill In” (110) wherever needed. Didn’t end up working out that way.

In this episode I discuss my own personal reaction to being laid off and some of the things available through the Louisiana Workforce Commission – Rapid Response Team.

The state provides a comprehensive website at www.laworks.net where you can create your HiRE Account. Here, it will walk you though step by step in creating a resume’ and getting it posted where employers can find it.

There are also good tools on HiRE to help you discover job trends in the state as well as up-and-coming events or assistance. You can apply for ‘Unemployment’, research health insurance availability, and much more useful information.

What is going to happen to the “Oilfield Talk” podcast?

There will definitely be some changes in the future
I hope to continue to provide content every two weeks. But this is a big change for me and my availability to be able to go and record others. When working 28on X 28off
it affords you a lot of time off to go and do
plus a good income to support those activities.

In the future, the pay and time off will probably be less than working offshore which will force some changes and adjustments.

I will looking closely at recording phone conversations or online Teams / ZOOM video conferencing type software.

Not sure what the future holds
but as Yogi Berra said “When you arrive at a fork in the road, take it”

  • This is was my first attempt to interview Mr. Kelly Tooker
but due to technical difficulties (memory card was full)
it stopped only 20 minutes into the interview and we didn’t know it
we kept talking for more than an hour.

A lot of great content was lost but we did our best to reproduce the interview that you heard in “Ep019 - NMJC - Hobbs NM “

Even though this is a short episode, Mr. Kelly keeps us informed and entertained

  • Don Harmon is teaching the ‘hands-on’ training at the NMJC Oil and Gas Training Program - “Lease Pumper” course; and what an outstanding teacher he is!

He gives the students of the “Lease Pumper” course solid foundation to start their career because of his firsthand experience doing the job since he was 8 years old with his father.

Sounds to me that he has definitely found his calling in life and with his faith and passion come though during the interview
after this interview; I hope you will want to listen to the next episode of Oilfield Talk where he is teaching the hands on portion of this course.

  • Ep016 – Erwin Guidry and the “Marlin 7 Spinner”

After 50 Years in the Drilling Industry, Erwin has finally retired and is enjoying his Wife, Children, Grandkids, Family! He has worked all around the world and has many stories to tell.

I was fortunate to have worked with Erwin
and thankful he agreed to be a Guest on Oilfield Talk.

A few days after recording, I got a text from Erwin and he said he has been remembering more stories and writing those story ideas down and now has many, MANY more to tell
you bet I will be recording Erwin again as soon as possible!

The recording environment wasn’t that great
on a sidewalk next to the main road
at an O&G Hiring Event in Lafayette that had people lined up around the hotel
 and traffic was crazy.

    Please pardon the sound quality
did my best, but there are still a few clicks, hisses and car horns.

I will be putting some pictures on the Oilfield Talk Facebook page of Erwin’s new business endeavor
Custom Metal Business such as Metal Art, Smudge Pots, Fire Pits
creating Custom Metal Designs with his CNC Cutter and Laser.

Interview of a lifetime with Mr. Crutcher who is 88 years old & started in the Oil Patch when he was 14

Mr. Crutcher and CCI invented the “Automatic Pipe Welding Machine” that revolutionized laying of pipelines and enabled at least four times faster welding of pipeline connections and was used to help build The Alaskan Pipeline and tens of thousands of miles of pipeline both offshore and on land.

In the mid 1960's Crutcher-Rolf-Cummings merged with M.J. Crose Manufacturing and operated as CRC-Crose International until sometime in the 70's when they became Crutcher Resources Corp. In the mid 60s Jerry Nelson (who had been the engineer working on the Battelle project) approached CRC with an idea for a new and improved system. He purposed to make a system that would be composed of a bevel facing machine, an internal line-up clamp/welding machine to deposit the root pass and then external welders run on bands clamped to the pipe OD. This was the foundation of the CRC Automatic Welding System and it remains essentially unchanged today.

The CRC welding system had some growing pains. Welding parameters were then poorly understood, the operators were not welders and needed to have extensive training and like most new technology, it was not readily accepted in the industry. Finally some trial runs were made and welding parameters were improved and the operators became proficient. In about 1983 CRC Pipeline International broke away from Crutcher Resources Corp and became a privately held operation.

Mr. Crutcher and CCI have multiple patents including:

    “Size-adjustable internal pipe clamp apparatus”

    Liveringa

Liveringa or Liveringa Station, often referred to as Upper Liveringa Station, is a pastoral lease in Western Australia that once operated as a sheep station but presently operates as a cattle station.

The Australian Land and Cattle Company was incorporated in 1969 in Western Australia by Jack Miller Fletcher and Carey Crutcher.[8] At its height, the company owned seven prime Kimberley stations covering nearly 20,000 square kilometres (7,722 sq mi) and carrying 100,000 head of cattle.[9] Among the properties acquired were Camballin and Liveringa stations. At Liveringa the company cleared 25,000 hectares (61,776 acres) of land to grow sorghum under flood irrigation; the crop was then used in company feedlots to fatten cattle.[10] In 1972 the last of the sheep were sold off to stations in the Pilbara and the only stock remaining were cattle.
