Listener Feedback: Christmas Trip Recap
We had an email from my client and friend Pam, who wanted to share a Christmas memory that her family has:
“I just got time to listen to your recap of your Christmas trip and I really enjoyed it. I have a favorite Christmas Disney memory to share. Once we were there at what was then MGM Studios during the days of the Osborne Family Christmas lights. All of a sudden it was time for them to come on and as we stood there on the streets, BAM, they turned on and the snowflakes started falling and we just stood there taking in all the beautiful lights. We just happened to be at the right place at the right time!”
Feature Topic: Tips for getting the most out of your Winter Trip to Disney!
This tip applies for all of the seasons at Walt Disney World, but perhaps even more so for winter: Stay on top of the weather conditions.
Be prepared for seasonal refurbishments of some attractions.
RunDisney events: January 8-12, 2025 for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend; February 20-24, 2025 for the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend.
You will still want to plan to dress in layers as the weather can be pretty unpredictable - warm one day and freezing the next (and don’t forget the humidity which can make it feel like you’re freezing)
Festival of the Arts at Epcot - January 17 - February 24, 2025.
Dance competitions/cheer competitions – they will be staying at the Value resorts.
Enjoy being at Walt Disney World
Park hours are shorter than other times of the year, so plan your days accordingly.
Consider doing rope drop if you don’t normally because of the shorter park hours.
Blizzard Beach on your arrival date is a brand new perk for resort guests, so enjoy the day at BB if you like!
Don’t forget that Disney has after hours events in the evening, January is Magic Kingdom, other times for Epcot and Hollywood Studios.
This Day in Disney History for 1/6/2025:
2002: The Ninth Annual Walt Disney Marathon is held.
1940: My Dad is born. Happy Birthday Dad!
2020: The first episode of On the Road with Mickey is published!

Walt Disney World Christmas Trip Recap!
Hey everyone, I'm Mike, she's Sophie, that's Brenda, and he's Grogu, and we're On the Road with Mickey! This is episode 248 and this week our feature topic is our Walt Disney World Christmas Trip Recap! This week, we're talking about the incredible memories that we made on our trip last week! Here's what we talked about:
Cheddar from the Big Cheese:
Brenda: The dates for the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival have been announced. It will run from March 5 - June 2, 2025! In addition, they will have the Garden Rocks concert series with performers announced from March 7 - March 29th. Stay tuned for more concert series announcements. This is the 30th anniversary of the Flower & Garden Festival!
Sophie: There are a lot of things coming to Walt Disney World in 2025, but perhaps one thing that I think is going to be really neat is the Spaceship Earth Lounge, coming in late Spring. This elevated lounge will honor the history of Spaceship Earth and Epcot and will look at celebrating the legacy of the past while looking towards the future.
Mike: Next year is the 70th anniversary of Disneyland! Wow! It seems like just 10 years ago Disneyland was celebrating its 60th Anniversary. Lol Anyway, Disneyland is going to kick off a 70th anniversary celebration that will start on May 16, 2025 and run through the summer of 2026.

“The more I go to other amusement parks in all parts of the world, the more I am convinced of the wisdom of the original concepts of Disneyland. I mean, have a single entrance through which all the traffic would flow, then a hub off which the various areas were situated. That gives people a sense of orientation – they know where they are at all times. And it saves a lot of walking.” - Walt Disney

Listener Feedback on “Christmas at Disney”
Chrissy from Billy’s Closet of Magic answered our question on going to Walt Disney World at Christmas. Here is what she said: “We have a tentative weekend planned for December to do the Cookie walk at Epcot and possibly Jollywood nights if it's still available when I get paid next. We missed the holiday trip last year.”
Feature Topic: Celebrating Walt: The Lasting Legacy of a Life Well Lived.
December 5, 1901: Walter Elias Disney is born to Flora and Elias Disney in their two-story cottage at 1249 Tripp Avenue in a newly developed section of Chicago, Illinois. (In 1909, the address of the house will change to 2156 North Tripp Avenue.) The fourth Disney son is named to honor the family's pastor and friend Walter Parr, a preacher at St. Paul Congregational Church (located one block east and one block north of the Disney house). The pastor, in turn, will later name his son Elias, after Walt's father. (The Disney family will move to Missouri in April 1906 where Walt and his brothers and sister will grow up on a farm in Marceline, but the family will later return to Chicago in 1917.)
September 4, 1918: Postal employee Walt Disney (who is a substitute mail carrier) is walking through the West Adams Street lobby of the Federal Building in Chicago when he hears a deafening blast that shakes the ground. Someone has planted a bomb. More than 75 are injured and four are killed - including a co-worker of Walt's named William Wheeler. The force of the blast also kills a horse on the street, damages a streetcar and shatters windows on nearby buildings. "I was in the post office. I just got through sorting my mail, or finishing my route. I was walking out ... going out a certain entrance ... when it was bombed. I was right in the lobby when, FOOOOOM, this thing went off. Here comes the dust shooting out and everything. That was the way I went out every night. I missed that darn thing by about three minutes." - Walt Disney
World War I - Walt is a patriot. It was one of his greatest traits. When WWI broke out, Roy joined the war movement. Walt wanted to also help in the war effort. Walt was too young to join the Army, but did join the Red Cross and drove an ambulance.

“We have done a lot of thinking on a model community, and I would like to be a part of building one, a city of tomorrow, as you might say. I don’t believe in going out to this extreme blue sky stuff that some of the architects do. I believe people still want to live like human beings. But there are a lot of things that could be done. I’m not against the automobile, but I just feel that you can design so that the automobile is there but still put people back as pedestrians again. Listener Feedback on “Don’t Waste Your Time”
Patti chimed in with a very good answer: “I have nothing. We always try to check everything out and experience different things we haven't before.”
Debbie said: “We do everything and hate missing anything. FYI: I forgot ..we don't do everything in The Circus area.”
Pam has a very well thought out answer: “The tea cups. They look fun. I want to like them but they make me nauseous.”
Sheila and Chrissy have the same thought: “Waiting in line!”
Lastly, Pam sent us an E-MAIL!!! Yay Pam! Here’s what she wrote: “Hey all. Really enjoyed the show and it gave me a few new things to think about. I have to add this though. Don't waste your time laying in bed in the morning! Set that alarm on the phone in your room and let Mickey wake you up. Get up, get out, get to rope drop. It really can make a difference. You can nap later in the day or when you get home from your vacation. But take advantage of the early morning admission time and get out there and have fun! Mike, I know we've talked about this before. I can't stand to waste my morning time at Disney. I'm raring and ready to get going in the morning. Just ask my 2 teenage granddaughters I had to "drag out of bed" last year when we took them for our girls trip. No many how many times I go, I can't help myself from the go go go in the morning mentality. Keep up the great work.

Hey everyone, I'm Mike, she's Sophie, that's Brenda, and he's Grogu, and we're On the Road with Mickey! This is episode 244 and this week our feature topic is Don't Waste Your Time - Things to avoid at Disney! This week, we're talking about things on our list that we don't waste our time over at Disney. What is on your list? Let us know! Here's what we talked about:
Cheddar from the Big Cheese:
Mike: On November 1st, Animal Kingdom Park opened up an all-new morning menu at Satu’li Canteen in Pandora! Some of their breakfast delicacies include Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits, a refreshing combination of yogurt, muesli, and honey, topped with tropical fruit for a naturally sweet start. If you’re craving a twist on a classic, the Cinnamon French Toast comes drizzled with blueberry cream cheese and passion fruit anglaise, served alongside a savory sausage link for a perfectly balanced bite. For a more savory start, the Slow-Roasted Pork Shoulder Potato Hash is loaded with chorizo sausage and paired with a flavorful charred onion sauce that adds a rich, smoky finish. There are other options, but these sound appealing to me! What do you think?
Brenda: We talked about the return of the Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, but one thing we didn’t mention is that this is the 25th anniversary of the first time this was created at the resort! There are 25 Hidden Mickeys on the structure for you to find to commemorate the anniversary! How many can you find?
Sophie: EPCOT – what we’ve always known, it stands for Experimental Prototype Cookies of Tomorrow! During the Christmas season this year, there are two new holiday kitchens in CommuniCore Hall, one of which lets you sample innovative cookie creations and even decorate your own gingerbread triangle!

In this episode, I'm sharing details on the cruise that my wife and I took on Royal Caribbean's latest ship, the Utopia of the Seas, as well as answering the question of which cruise line we like better! Here's what we talked about:
Cheddar from the Big Cheese:
At the time of recording, the State of Florida is being slammed by Hurricane Milton. Because of that, Cheddar just doesn’t mean as much. As a result, we here at On the Road with Mickey would like to pass along to everyone hearing that we are praying for all of you; we have all experienced storms like this before, and our prayer is for God to surround all of you with His protection now and in the aftermath.

A little bit of Walt
“Every person has his own ideas of the act of praying for God's guidance, tolerance, and mercy to fulfill his duties and responsibilities. My own concept of prayer is not as a plea for special favors nor as a quick palliation for wrongs knowingly committed. A prayer, it seems to me, implies a promise as well as a request; at the highest level, prayer not only is a supplication for strength and guidance, but also becomes an affirmation of life and thus a reverent praise of God.” - Walt Disney

I had an awesome text from my friend Pam, the one that requested this feature topic. She wrote: “Hey Mike! Thanks for the wonderful program about lightning lane etc! It answered all my questions and between Brenda’s excellent comments and yours and Sophie’s questions, I feel much better equipped to use the system now. Thank you all for a job well done!!”

This is episode 238 and this week our feature topic is The ins and outs of Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Single-Pass! In this episode, Brenda teaches Sophie and I (and all our listeners that don't know) all about the new Lightning Lane system! Here's what we talked about:
Cheddar from the Big Cheese:
Brenda: The Disney Treasure left dock at Meyer Werft shipyard and was guided by tugboat down the Ems River toward open water for the first time! In the coming days, the Treasure will go through its sea trials, which are a series of rigorous tests to make sure she is ready for her transatlantic journey towards Port Canaveral! Take a look at this incredible photo, courtesy of the Disney Parks Blog!
Sophie: We are recording this week on September 19th. I say that because today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Ahoy ye mateys!!!
Mike: Over at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe, they have a brand new menu coming out! Disney is labeling it as a “create-your-own” menu concept! So, as an example, you’ll pick a base, such as a steamed tamale, rice bowl, nacho bowl, or a southwest Caesar salad, then you’ll add in one of three proteins. You’ve also got options via ala carte such a burger or plant based option, sides like barbecue-cheddar seasoned french fries, charro beans, and other options. Best news of all is that some of the fan favorites from before are still available, like the cilantro-lime rice and strawberry limeade slushy.

Teresa has a great tip: “Take part in the Halloween festivities - so much fun!!!!!”
Deb has this to add: “My favorite time to go, I love everything fall & Halloween..Disney World knocks it out of the park. Weather, decorations and special events.”
John added this: “Food and Wine at Epcot, Mickeys Not So Scary at least once. The Savanna ride at night at AKL.”
Patti added her tips: “Best time to go. Weather is very mild, but there is always a chance for rain. Everyone really goes all out during Halloween Season. We drove by the new Epic Universe construction two weeks ago. Exciting to see the progress.”
Lastly, Pam had this awesome suggestion that I totally forgot about! She wrote “If I'm not mistaken, and you'd know if I am, if you can plan a trip over Halloween and into Nov. 2-3, I'm thinking you can see both the beautiful fall/Halloween decor as well as the Christmas transformation. You can definitely verify, but if it's true, it's a great way to get 2 for 1.”

This is episode 237 and this week our feature topic is Tips for getting the most out of your Fall Trip to Disney! In this episode, we look at the calendar, and how Autumn is almost upon us! Here's what we talked about:Cheddar from the Big Cheese:Mike: The hearts of the world are a little heavier now as we learned of the passing of Class of 2019 Disney Legend James Earl Jones at the age of 93 on September 9th. There are so many roles he was in; from the voice of Darth Vader, to Mufasa in The Lion King, my favorite is the impact he had in the movie Field of Dreams as the writer Terence Mann. We here at On the Road with Mickey extend our prayers to his family and friends that grieve his loss, and to a world that knew him through his work, and seems a little dimmer today.Brenda: Whoop de doo! Or is it Hoop Dee Doo! Perhaps eat around the world that day instead of making a table service reservation. If you have the Disney Dining Plan, you can use your credits for snacks at the kiosks, but you’ll go through your snack credits really quickly. Another option is to purchase a gift card with the wrist band and load up some money on that and use that for paying for your snacks at the F&W.I like to visit attractions that are more in-line with the season. For example, in the fall we’ve got Halloween, so The Haunted Mansion is a must.Beautiful skies, crisp temperatures, these kinds of days are made for Disney attractions. Tom Sawyer Island, enjoy it one last time while we still can! We don’t go here very often, but a stroll through Storybook Circus sounds really enticing to me right now. Perhaps a climb into Swiss Family Treehouse as well?If you are going to Animal Kingdom, a trip on the Safari, and a visit to Rafiki’s Planet Watch sound incredible also.Of course, it’s great any time of year, but on a cool Autumn day, a ride on the Walt Disney World Railroad would be the pièce de résistance on a great day at the Magic Kingdom!BrendaDon’t forget that there are a lot of activities at your resort to enjoy!Poolside activities, games, family friendly, carriage ride at RiversideTie-Dye shirts, campfires, silent disco, and on and on!Heated pools! Mike: Coming to Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom – a Cars themed land with two attractions! One will take you on a thrilling rally race through the mountains. The second has less information but will be more for the kids in the family and will be fun for the whole family.
Brenda: There is so much that came out of D23 that we can’t possibly cover it all, but I’m going to talk about how the Disney Cruise Line is ramping up their game even more! They announced that there will be 4 more cruise ships on the horizon; so if you are counting, we have 5 currently, there are four about to open up soon, and these new four bring the total to 13! In addition, the signature production for the Disney Destiny (sailing next year) is going to be “Disney Hercules”, and on the Disney Treasure will be the brand new stage production “Disney The Tale of Moana.” featuring a 15 foot tall puppet of Te Ka, the largest ever produced for a Disney Cruise Line show!
Sophie: Coming to Disneyland next year for the 70th Anniversary: A Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic Figure! For the first time ever, when it debuts in 2025, you’ll actually be able to see Walt Disney through the magic of Audio-Animatronics technology in “Walt Disney – A Magical Life.” The attraction will debut inside the Main Street Opera House, and after its initial run, the attraction will play in rotation with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.” So tell me, Brenda and Daddy, what do you think? Here's what we talked about:
Cheddar from the Big Cheese:
Brenda: Disney has recently released more details about their latest ship, Disney Destiny which will begin sailing from Port Everglades in November 2025. The theme of the ship is ‘Heroes and Villains’ and, as a Marvel fanatic, I feel like this ship is meant for me. The stern will feature Spiderman and the statue in the grand atrium will be Black Panther. This ship will feature some really cool bar offerings including: a Cruella DeVil-themed Piano Bar (De Vil’s), as well as Cask and Cannon, a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed pub. There is even a Dr. Strange-themed bar called The Sanctum. And finally, they will be including the Haunted Mansion Parlor like the one that will be featured on the Disney Treasure later this year. There will be some truly amazing dining experiences like The Lion King Dinner show. Plus, the Avengers will be represented at the Spiderman-featured Worlds of Marvel dining experience, and there will be a 1923 just like on the Disney Wish. Disney Seas the Adventure and the broadway-style production of Frozen will be two of the shows onboard as well. Again, coming to Port Everglades in November 2025 and reservations can be booked on September 10. Don’t miss out on what is sure to be an amazing cruising experience.

Brenda: The Momma in me is just beaming at this bit of Cheddar. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has welcomed four new Hartmann’s mountain zebra foals this summer! Penne was born to Heidi on June 13th; Heidi’s first foal, Asha, just had her first baby (a boy) on July 8th, so that’s 3 generations of zebras! 2nd time Mom Juno had a girl, Cada, and second time Mom Aziza delivered a healthy baby boy on July 16th; they are still bonding backstage before venturing out into the savanna.

In the real world looking back on a 24 year career already if I had a choice knowing what I know now, money wasn’t an option for school or earnings or time away from family wouldn’t make me sad, I’d have been an ER doctor or a storm chaser.”
My sister Robin said “Slytherin because I am resourceful, clever, ambitious, and determined! If I could be any character it would be Nymphadora Tonks. She is fun, resourceful, determined, and clever. She did her job well!”

“Leadership implies a strong faith or belief in something. It may be a cause, an institution, a political or business operation, in which a man takes active direction by virtue of his faith and self-assurance. And, of course, leadership means a group, large or small, which is willing to entrust such authority to a man – or a woman – in judgment, wisdom, personal appeal, and proven competence.”- Walt Disney
