Welcome to another transformative episode of "The OTT Podcast," where we delve into the secrets of cultivating high-performance mindsets. Today, we’re exploring the fascinating interplay between high performance and negative bias. Joining me is the remarkable Terry McCoy from NLPworks, an expert in NLP, neuroscience and an international coach dedicated to helping victims of narcissistic abuse.
Negative bias is a natural part of our brain's wiring, a survival mechanism that historically helped humans avoid danger. However, in today's world, this can significantly impede our performance and well-being. Research reveals that our brains are twice as likely to focus on negative experiences over positive ones. Imagine the impact this has on our daily lives and professional endeavours.
In this episode, Terry and I will unpack the intricacies of negative bias and how it subtly sabotages our efforts towards excellence. We'll explore practical strategies to rewire our thinking, leveraging the power of NLP to shift from a mindset of scarcity and fear to one of abundance and possibility.
Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't – you're right.” This quote perfectly encapsulates the essence of our discussion today. By understanding and overcoming negative bias, we can unlock our true potential and consistently perform at our best.
Prepare yourself for an enlightening conversation filled with insights, practical tips, and inspiring stories. Whether you're a business leader, a coach, or someone looking to enhance your personal development, this episode is packed with valuable takeaways. It’s easy to describe someone who spends a bit too much time talking about her career or who never seems to doubt himself as a narcissist, but the trait is more complicated than that. It truly is a complex topic.
Terry McCoy is an experienced multi-disciplined therapist with extensive experience providing one to one therapy for emotional regulation including stress and anxiety management and trauma management. His work with victims of Narcissism is extensive and in this conversation, he shares some of his experiences and powerful insights.
Narcissism does not necessarily represent a surplus of self-esteem or of insecurity; more accurately, it encompasses a hunger for appreciation or admiration, a desire to be the centre of attention, and an expectation of special treatment reflecting perceived higher status. Interestingly, research finds, many highly narcissistic people often readily admit to an awareness that they are more self-centred. A high level of narcissism, not surprisingly, can be damaging in romantic, familial, or professional relationships, so this podcast may prove to be a practical guide to helping you navigate through those tricky scenarios.
