  • In today's episode, I talk with Cara Tyrrell, M.Ed, a Vermont based Early Childhood Educator, Collaborative Parenting Coach, and the founder of Core4Parenting™. We talk about what parenting through the pandemic was like for kids and parents and how the methodology that she's so passionate about can help parents navigate what they may have missed our during this period. She talks about the five core executive functioning skills that she believes are key for children to learn, how to handle meltdowns, and how parents dealt with the 'survival period' of the pandemic. Listen in on this great discussion!

    About the Guest

Cara is a the passionate mastermind behind the Collaborative Parenting Methodology™, a birth-to-five, soul and science based framework that empowers parents and teachers to maximize children's early learning while raising fantastic human beings who succeed in school and life.

While teaching preschool and Kindergarten, she noticed her students knew their ABC’s and 123’s, but struggled with their social, emotional, and interpersonal skills. At drop off, parents would say, “We’re so glad that you are their first teacher”, but she knew she wasn’t -- their parents were! This realization led to her professional pivot as an Early Childhood Trainer, Parent Educator and Coach.

Cara has embraced her role as thought leader and fierce advocate for Pandemic parents raising the COVID Generation (GEN-C).

Through keynotes, teacher training, and her podcast, Transforming the Toddler Years, she’s teaching the 5 Executive Functioning Skills kids need to recover lost milestones and navigate our ever-changing world.

Cara has Bachelor degrees in American Sign Language (ASL) and Linguistics and a Master’s degree in Education. She lives in southern Vermont with her two nearly grown-and-flown daughters and a husband who is her biggest cheerleader. Ready to raise world ready kids who change the world?

  • In this episode we talk with Becky Tilley, a UK-based mom who is spreading the words of kindness and inspiration after being diagnosed with a rare genetic syndrome called Koolen-de Vries. Becky grew up feeling different, but had no idea until after the birth of her second child that she was not only a carrier of this syndrome but that two of her kids would go on to also be diagnosed. Getting the diagnosis when she was an adult gave her a unique perspective as she wasn't defined by this condition growing up. Instead of letting parent guilt and the negative spiral get in the way - she harnessed positivity and ended up writing and publishing a book called Thrive Rare: Embracing the Uniqueness Within. Listen in as Becky opens up and shares her story of her childhood that included being bullied and having difficulties with academics and work life to where she is today having authored a book and continuing to be an inspiration to others that have been diagnosed with rare genetic syndromes. About the Guest

Becky Tilley is a passionate advocate for embracing uniqueness and finding strength in adversity. Her personal journey with rare diagnoses, as well as her experiences as a parent, inspired her to share her story with others. Today we talk with Billy who comes to us from Bulgaria. We relate to one another as parents of multiple kids trying our best to raise resilient children. She talks about self-care, regulating yourself, and the importance of conflict. She even recommends a few good books as she's an avid reader, going through a book a week as a side gig!

Billy is a mom of three girls and the host of Unlock Your Child’s Full Potential Podcast. She believes parents have the unique role of nurturing the potential of the special human beings entrusted to their care. She doesn't expect school and the teachers to do everything and doesn't let the environment decide who her kids become. She believes its up to parents to coach their children on how to be successful and fulfilled. That’s her goal with her podcast - to talk to as many parents, educators, experts, you name it, and ask the questions, look for the universal principles, find as many tools as possible to be a better parent and give kids a head start in life.

My guest on today's show also relates to the HSP. We talk about these traits and how it affected her life and how she harnessed that in herself . This is a two part episode where we cover a range of topics including the HSP, parenting, and relationships.

Karen Hall is a spiritual life coach, author, public speaker and passionate entrepreneur. Trained by the renowned Marianne Williamson, she teaches emotional intelligence skills and is the host of The Hero Within Podcast. With her unique style of connecting with her fans, Karen provides a safe space for guests to share vulnerable stories of navigating adversity to find their own healing journey. • Do you have a child you might think have a learning difference? Are they learning at a difference pace than their peers? Do you have an inclination that you child might need some additional support but don't know what to do about it and it's really creating a lot of friction in your home? Or, has your child already been diagnosed with a learning difference and you have no idea how to manage the day to day?

On this episode, I speak with Shannon McNamara, a clinical social worker for 20 years, who specializes in kids with learning differences and helping parents navigate this journey. She has a unique view into the child-parent dynamic as she herself was diagnosed with a learning difference as a child. She focuses on the Connective Parenting philosophy, which is a more inclusive and holistic way of parenting. We get curious about our children's behaviors, and more importantly, how we react to those behaviors, and can identify our own 'buttons' or triggers that might be lending their hand to some of the challenges.

Listen in as we go in depth about what it means to have a learning difference, how the child experiences their world, and how, as parents we can help our kids through these challenges.

[Check out the first two in the series : Episode 4: Could Neurodiversity Explain the Challenges in Your Relationship? (Neurodiversity: Part 1), and Episode 6: When Expertise Matters - Finding the Right Therapist/Counselor (Neurodiversity: Part 2)]In this episode we bring back Grace Myhill, a couples coach, clinical consultant, group facilitator, and neurodiversity expert. We dive deeper into this topic and talk about the invisible expectations, that while inherent in any relationship, are more challenging in a neurodiverse one as they are not obvious nor even understood and able to be identified sometimes. If you've been struggling in your relationship and feel like you might be on two different planets and have two very completely perspectives on a situation, you might be in a neurodiverse relationship. Grace presents some typical challenges and walks through how to see these challenges; and moreover, what to do with them once you've identified the challenge.

Have you found yourself not really taking the time to celebrate you? What about on your actual birthday? This episode is a reminder that it’s OK to celebrate yourself and put yourself first sometimes. I'm paying it forward and will be sending out a pampering package to one lucky listener who comments in the Parents Connecting Facebook Group. A good excuse to go and find something that puts yourself first. The notion of 'putting yourself first' may seem so indulgent at first, but I'm becoming to understand that's it's a vital component to making sure your full person shows up to those around you. So here's to celebrating you! Listen in on this quick 18 minute episode as I talk about what worked for me and get an update of where we are in the podcast and what to expect in future episodes.

  • Have you ever asked why something bothers you? Is it really the other person or your work environment; or, could it be that you haven't identified what your value system is and so there's a natural friction due to being out of alignment?

In this short 30 min solo episode, you'll hear from me as I talk through some of my own reflections of my life and I'll give you a little insight into what happens when we ask ourselves what's causing the friction.  So often, we see people transform themselves, but only see the before and after. This episode is one of many where I share with you my own questions and struggles so you see 'under the hood' and understand that any transformation takes work and sometimes just start with a simple, but deep question.. "What are my values?"

  • In Part Two in our mini-series on neurodiversity, I bring back Grace Myhill, a relationship coach and neurodiversity expert, as we continue the dialogue on couples and challenges in relationships.

Being in any relationship is hard at times, but it can be even more challenging when there are invisible factors at work... something that may take years to discover if your therapist or couples coach is unaware of what neurodiversity in a relationship looks like. If you've sought individual or couples therapy and are still struggling with finding connections and real change in your relationship, this episode is for you.

Listen in as we focus in on the really nuanced dynamics that neurodiverse relationships exhibit, some of the things to look out for, and how to find a therapist that works for you and why subject matter expertise is especially important. With the right new lens to look through - there is hope for positive change in your relationships.
