When we talk about the ADHD tax, producing your income tax declaration is definitely something that figures on the list of what ADHD is costing you as it is not uncommon for people with ADHD to be late or even a few years behind in their declarations.
The ADHD tax amounts to thousands of dollars every year. In the US, adults with ADHD earn about $15 to $20 thousand dollars LESS annually than our neurotypical peers with the same education? Here in Canada, itâs approximately $10 to $15K less per year.
The estimated lifetime economic impact in the United States, ranges between $400,000-to half a million dollars per individual in lost wages, fees, and treatment costs. In Canada, it ranges from $350,000-$450,000 per person in lost wages, healthcare costs, and productivity losses.

If planning doesnât come easy in your ADHD world, you can believe itâs never going to change because itâs always been that way or, you can shift your thoughts to create your new normal.
Holding on to a belief only hardwires it deeper, shutting the door to any possibility for anything to improve.
In this episode, Zarina explains why planning can be so hard for the ADHD brain and how any challenge, including this one, is far from being set in stone.
Through the Symphony Conductor Metaphor that makes it easier to understand what executive functions do, youâll better understand how the ADHD brain works.
Among the three of her favorite planning tools she shares, youâll discover one that can actually help enhance executive function such as working memory, impulsivity and organization.

The word structure usually make ADHDers cringe and want nothing to do with it, even if you know that all hell brakes loose if you don't have it. Do you know why that is?
Because most structures are not created for the ADHD brain, but the neurotypical one.
That's one of the reasons doing things spontaneously is the way we prefer, but did you know that when you navigate a structure that fit your unique brain style, you:
Create or gain momentum and that increases productivityReduce overwhelm and that decreases procrastinationEnjoy more flow in your days and less chaos. If like me, you show any kind of resistance to using a structure, this episode is for you as it will help you figure out how to make it work for your brain, what the most important thing you need to consider when thinking about creating a structure is and words you can replace the words so that it generates expansion, not contraction.

Have you ever thought of ADHD happening for you, not to you or against you?
People like us would graduate with honors if they could earn a degree for all weâve had to do to adapt to a world that wasnât designed with us in mind.
The biggest mistake a lot of ADHDers make, mainly because they donât know how their brain works, is using methods that are designed for the non ADHD brain.
Remember the good old days when Apple and PC operating systems couldnât have a civil conversation?
You'd send a Word document from your Mac to a PC, and, you know, it was like trying to get a cat and a dog to read Shakespeare together.
The PC would look at that document and say, âWhat is this gibberish?!â
Meanwhile, the Mac was off in its corner, being all artsy and misunderstood.
Well, thatâs pretty much how the ADHD brain operates. It's like having a Mac in a world full of PCs.
This episode is all about inspiring you to inspire and challenge you to look at ADHD with a different set of lenses and become the private investigator of what your brain needs more of to do things in respect to how our brain works.

Navigating the vast, unpredictable ocean in a small boat mirrors the journey of living with ADHD.
Storms and fog represent the challenges and uncertainties that come with it. Yet, self-awareness serves as a guiding lighthouse, its beam cutting through the confusion, making each challenge manageable.

If you havenât had the chance to listen to it, I strongly suggest that you do as you will find out why metacognition makes it hard for ADHDers to self-reflect and what tactics you can try to make it easier.
In part 2 we dive into:
Clarifying the crucial difference between being aware of ADHD and having self-awareness.Helping you which element of self-awareness you need to focus onGiving you ways to train your self-awareness muscle the ADHD wayHighlighting the ripple effects of self-awareness Identifying the difference between mindfulness and self-awareness, and how they are closely related and often support each otherDive into this episode to transform your journey with ADHD from a daunting voyage into an enlightening adventure, where self-awareness lights the way to a brighter, more colorful horizon!Any questions? When you have ADHD, you might feel that becoming more self aware of your distractible brain is like fighting a losing battle.
ADHDers pretty much live in their head which means theyâre not paying attention to their bodies, patterns and behavior.
Fortunately, thereâs an explanation for that and it resides in those two words: executive functioning.
Self-awareness is one of the most important keys in making life with ADHD less challenging because no system or strategy will be effective if you are clueless about what works and what doesnât for your brain.
However, people with ADHD tend to have low self awareness and seem to fit the "absent-minded professor" description, which is someone who might seem a bit disconnected from their surroundings or what's happening around them.
Even if they appear to be absent or in their own world, unaware of what is happening around them, theyâre not. They're deeply immersed and feel present and in the moment. They are present to thoughts that others canât see.
This episode will help you shed some light on:
Why is being self-aware challenging for our brain? How can self-awareness be a game changer for ADHDers? What is self-awareness and why do we need it?How to develop your self-awareness muscle the ADHD way?And much much more!
Be ready to learn, understand and be empowered in making navigating ADHD-like challenges an enjoyable experience.

The saddest thing about ADHD is the narrative that focuses more on the pain and struggles than the strengths and abilities. Of course, it's an undeniable fact that there is a long list of symptoms that create a heavy burden of challenges.
When everything that doesn't work gets all the attention, it's hard, if not impossible, to see what does.
As an ADHDer, you have the power to choose the lens through which you look at ADHD; the one that zooms in on everything you can't do or struggle with, or the one that zooms out and allows you to see what is actually going well.
Hereâs a few highlights from this episode:
Why what you pay attention to matters and how it affects the way you experience ADHD.How seeing ADHD as a difference came quite naturally to me and is at the heart of what I do.Why constant external validation of what isn't working can keep you in victim mode without you even knowing it, and how to break the cycle.New episodes drop every other Sunday. Do you find that living with ADHD feels like living life at high speed where fast is the only way to go?
Do you have a hard time knowing how to or what to say no to because you donât want to miss out on anything?
If youâre under the impression that youâre missing out on the fun when you can't attend an event or didn't get an invitation and you feel left out/rejected, it could be FOMO (fear of missing out).
One way to beat it is to know where your reaction comes from, how ADHD and FOMO are connected and begin practicing JOMO, which stands for joy of missing out.
Part one of this episode focuses on the joy of missing out or JOMO, an emotionally intelligent antidote to FOMO:
What is JOMO and why foster it to beat FOMOHow what you value can help in finding joy in missing out. What you can do to shift from FOMO to JOMO and create your own joy of missing out formulaPart two is all about:
What is FOMO and how FOMO shows upWays ADHD and FOMO are connectedWhat ADHD traits can actually make it worseI soooo appreciate you listening! New episodes drop every other Sunday.
