Data allows producers to keep accurate records, monitor fish health and welfare and ultimately improve efficiency and productivity. This podcast discusses how data is currently being used in the UK aquaculture sector to support productivity while improving health and welfare as well as what can be done to make more of it.

Sustainability is a subject of huge importance to the Scottish salmon industry. In this episode we discuss the role technology has to play within the UK's aquaculture industry. We hear from Emily Underhill, senior technician and fish health coordinator, at Grieg Seafood, on her experience of trialling Smart Glasses on-farm to maintain fish health and welfare as remote support became the norm during the Covid-19 pandemic.
We also hear from Gareth Hammond, UK & Ireland area manager for Vaki Scotland, about how he sees the use of technology in aquaculture evolving to help maximise productivity and provide greater insight on fish health and performance.

In this first episode, through the eyes of retail and vet, we hear from Coop’s fisheries and aquaculture manager, Aisla Jones, on how the retailer is working with suppliers to ensure sustainable salmon appears on supermarket shelves, some of the challenges faced this year, and how Coop are supporting their salmon producers.
As the summer vaccination season has drawn to a close, we also spoke to independent vet, Dr Marian McLoughlin, to hear how the season has gone and what challenges fish farmers faced given current restrictions. Dr McLoughlin also offers advice and hints and tips on how to optimise vaccinations in fish.
