Do you know how common mental abuse is? According to The National Center for Biotechnology Information, 80 percent of the population has experienced some form of abusive relationship and behavior. However, despite how frequent it is, emotional abuse is still hard to spot. Unlike physical abuse, mental abuse doesn’t leave any visible scars; instead, it affects someone’s behavior, mindset, and mentality. This means some people deny they’ve been mentally abused, and others may not even recognize the toxic behavior. So, whether you’re reading this to be able to recognize emotional abuse in others or recognize it in yourself, these a few things people who’ve been mentally abused do are sure to help you be more empathetic and kinder. Do you know someone who has a victim mindset that everyone is out against them and everything is completely out of their control? Do you find yourself drained while they stay in a perpetual state of discontentment? To better explore what a victim mindset is, in this video, we’ll discuss some of the signs someone is always playing the victim. Disclaimer: It is important to use your best judgment if someone is truly in a victim mindset. There are people who have hardships that are valid, even if hard to understand. This article is not to discredit or devalue the experience of others, but rather to shed light on an issue that may be used to manipulate and harm other people. Bullying comes in all forms and ways, such as cyberbullying, verbal abuse, spreading rumors, and so on. Bullies don’t have criteria when it comes to people’s self-worth, they have a constant need to put others down. So it doesn’t matter what you do, who you are, where you come from, what you say or have, everyone is prone to becoming a victim of bullying. What is social anxiety? How do you know if it's social anxiety or just introversion? How can you spot it and what should you do if you need help dealing with it? Social anxiety is described as the fear of social situations that involve interacting with other people, it can manifest itself in numerous ways and can include everything from shyness in social situations, dreading everyday activities and performing tasks in front of other people to even having physical effects on a person like panic attacks, feeling sick, sweating or heart palpitations. Everyone has suffered bouts of overthinking. The only difference is that some eventually come up with a decision. While chronic overthinkers are plagued with questions and doubt. You rehash previous conversations, relive past events, and imagine catastrophic outcomes. If you are an overthinker, your mind can feel like a never-ending movie of horrible possibilities. This is debilitating in more ways than one. Not only does it exhaust you mentally and produce anxiety, along with many other health issues. It also prevents you from moving forward. You might have already heard about gaslighting and what gaslighting is, but do you know what is self gaslighting? Gaslighting yourself is literally when you gaslight yourself. When you gaslight yourself, you tell yourself things to feel better or worse when in reality things are not what you think. When you gaslight yourself, it is very easy to lie to yourself. Overthinking on the other hand could be a form of self gaslighting when you repeat to yourself something over and over.
