Corey Costanzo is the Co-Owner of Asheville’s Still Point Wellness Spa, a licensed addiction counselor, trauma specialist, licensed massage therapist, master didgeridoo player, colleague, and my good friend.
In this episode, Corey and I have a conversation about healthy communication tools. Most of us didn’t learn healthy ways of communicating and resolving conflict in our families. Some families never talk about problems, while others might be explosive. We bring these styles into our relationships thinking they are normal and then feel sad and angry when they engender a negative response. Coret and I share what tools use in our personal relationships as well as those that we help guide our clients.

In this solocast I talk about my recent experience and observations during Hurricane Helene’s devastation that hit Western North Carolina and the Southeast. For those of you not local, Hurricane Helene swept through the Appalachian mountains, bringing two days of relentless rain (32 inches at my house) and strong winds. The storm saturated the earth, causing historic flooding and leaving unimaginable damage and devastation in its wake.
Since September 29th, the destruction of our community has left many devasted with unimaginable loss.In the wake of this tragedy, there was and is beauty. The beauty of communities far and wide coming to aid and help one another. It has been so heartwarming to see humans helping other humans so selflessly. It solidified my deep belief in creating and fostering good, close, and caring relationships within our communities and neighborhoods. We need to have eachothers' back!

In this solocast I talk about the importance of focusing on how you want to respond instead of focusing on other people’s reactions, responses, or behaviors. We have no control over changing others'; we only have control and choice over how we respond to others. Our relationship with ourselves is reflected in this “discipline”.

In this solocast I talk about the importance of following of transparency in relationships. In order to have authentic transparency in our relationships, we have to first be self-transparent with ourselves. We have to be willing to be vulnerable, have emotional honesty and risk embarrassment and judgement. A healthy relationship can only thrive with transparency, which is the foundation of trust.
