Giving and taking – visualize taking on the suffering of others, while giving back to them your own happinessand love. This is done by imagining breathing in others’ suffering as black smoke, which you then purify with yourown goodness, then breathing it out and back to them as pure white smoke. Operating like a karma purifying machine.

Self-cherishing and cherishing others Contemplate how self-cherishing (selfishness/narcissism) isthe cause of great suffering. That by believing that our own needs and happiness are more important than the needs and happiness of others, we act and behave in ways that create suffering for others and ourselves, in the form of greed, selfishness, hatred, anger, and envy, which alienates us from others. Contemplate how cherishing others (altruism) is the cause ofgenuine happiness. That by believing that all of our needs and happiness are interdependent, we act and behave in ways that create happiness for all, in the form of care, love, compassion, friendship, and affection, which builds wholesome relationships and community. Today's topic and contemplation is – ‘Exchanging self and other’. Contemplate on exchanging others’ perspectives with your own. Recognize how we all share and suffer from the same human limitations which we all strive to overcome, our ignorance, confusion, insecurities, immaturity, obsessive attachments, aversions, selfishness, lack of self-control, anxiety, laziness, etc. When meeting others, exchange yourself with them, imagining them as yourself, and yourself as them, while examining the different perspectives that arise.
