Mercury is in retrograde and weâre all feeling itâŠ
Em, Al and Xanthe are in the studio today - and weâre gonna be honest⊠it was a little hard for us to find goods for this weekâs GBA. Alâs been getting violent at the dentist and Emâs household has been hit by the flu.
We also dive into the conversations that have been opened up in the mainstream in the wake of the Netflix show Adolescence - which follows the story of a 13 year old boy who is arrested for the murder of a girl in his school. We discuss the rise of online misogyny, how itâs affecting young boys and what hope we have of stopping it.
This conversation does discuss plot points from Adolescence - but if you havenât seen it - the conversation mainly focuses on the issues the show brings up rather than the details of the plot. It wonât ruin the show, but you may get more from this conversation if youâve seen at least the first two episodes of the series.

Who here thinks theyâre rubbish with money? We did, until we spoke to Alexia De Brogile.
Alexia is the co-founder of YourJuno - the financial education app, by women, for women.
In this episode, we find out how womenâs attitudes to money are set from our childhood and how that lack of confidence follows us into adulthood - and stops us from growing our wealthâŠ
Alexia and her sister Margot created their platform to essentially be the Duolingo of financial education for women. They have helped thousands of women to learn about every aspect of personal finance.
If you have any questions about personal finance - Whatâs investing? Is the stock market safe? What is an ISA? - this a judgment free zone and this episode is for you!

We have *muchos* to discuss today!
Emâs got an awkward that Boy Alex wonât let her talk about and she needs to get off her chest. Meanwhile, Al has potentially given Betty a taste for human bloodâŠ
We also discuss internet accountability - we know that that people say hurtful things online but why do people feel the need to do it? And why do people feel so comfortable to do it publicly?
Alex has been completely outnumbered in the studio today with her very controversial opinion about tea. Weâre pretty sure sheâs in the minority - but if you feel like giving her some support, you can email us at [email protected] - send us your awkwards too please, we LOVE reading them!

We think stand-up comedy is possibly one of the most terrifying professions on the planet - and today, weâre speaking to a man who has mastered it.
In this episode, weâre speaking to the multi-award-winning comedian, presenter, actor, author, and scriptwriter Russell Kane.
He tells us about this experience growing up funny in a working class household with a hyper-masculine father and how that experience built his career and how it has been reflected in his own attitude to fatherhood.
This conversation goes so much further than comedy - as we touch on everything from evolutionary biology, male sperm counts to emotional vulnerability - to unpack what Russell sees as a new vision for young men.
This episode was recorded in November 2024.

Welcome to the new format of our Thursday episodes - this is where everything with Just Us will live: GBA, Is It Just Me and all our general nonsense! And - boy - we have got a lot of nonsense for you today!
Alâs bads are BAD today. We find out about her very bad week - and weâre even treated to a little bit of nudity. Lucky Dex!
We also discuss a mega star who gave us a âpolite declineâ - then we catch ourselves being potentially a tiny bit problematic.
Do you want to weigh in on whether itâs okay for us to objectify men? It is different when men and women do it? Email us on [email protected]

Weâre talking Ozempic, again.
Our deep dive into body image may have wrapped up last week, but we all know this topic is far from over. So, weâre jumping back inâŠ
This time, weâre joined by influencer and longtime friend of the podcast, Sasha Pallari. After hearing our Ozempic episode, she reached out to share her own experience with Mounjaro â a journey sheâs been candid about online over the past four months.
In this conversation, Sasha opens up about why she chose to take the drug, how its impact goes beyond just weight loss, and where she sees potential dangers. Sasha offers us her unique perspective on the drug - how it has changed her life and why she has chosen to be so open and honest about it online.

Throughout our body image series - weâve had so many powerful, inspiring and life-affirming conversations with people who have incredible advice on how we can build better relationships with our bodies. One of those people is Alice Liveing.
Alice is a personal trainer, influencer, columnist, podcaster and bestselling author who has inspired thousands of people with her relatable, motivational and balanced health advice.
In this conversation, we take a look back to the 2010s - when she inadvertently became the poster girl for so-called âclean eatingâ. We found out how Alice found herself in that situation and what led her to move away from it to build a healthy relationship with her body image.

Weâve downed tools - because itâs time to reflect on everything that weâve learned and felt throughout our big body image series.
Join Em and Al to discuss what weâve learned through this series - from the history of diet culture to the way the diet landscape is shifting and morphing in front of our eyes.
We chat about where weâre at with our own body image journeys, how weâre going to move forward from this series, and how we might be able to - as a society - fix our relationships with our bodies.
Thank you to our brilliant listeners who sent us their voice notes for this episode - we couldn't feature all of them in this episode but we loved listening to them all. A special thanks to: Sophie, Jessica, Marsy, Hannah, Riss, Aimee, Eimear and Catherine from the IVF BFF Podcast

Itâs time to address the elephant in the room - Ozempic.
We know that Ozempic will change - and is already changing - the body image landscape. There is so much noise online, in the media and in our personal lives about the so called âmiracleâ drug - so we decided to call in the help of an expert, to clear up the myths from the facts.
Dr Giles Yeo is a professor at the University of Cambridge, whose research focuses on food intake, genetics and obesity. We got him in the studio to answer all the questions we had about Ozempic - to help us understand the science behind the drug that everyone is talking about.

The body image landscape is changing in front of our eyes - and we have Ozempic to blame - or thank - for that.
For the last few years - Ozempic has been the topic that has dominated the cultural conversation. Is it the silver bullet to help us with our body image or are pharmaceutical companies taking advantage of our collective desire to be thin?
In this episode we speak to a doctor who is an expert on Ozempic, a psychologist and someone who has taken the drug to dig right to the core of this thorny, controversial topic.
Is Ozempic a miracle or is it causing more damage than itâs worth? We donât know where itâs going to end - but we know for certain that this isnât the last weâll hear of the drug.

After growing up in a world that teaches us to hate our bodies - how can we come to feel at peace with, or even begin to feel positive about our bodies? And what happens when the movement that made you feel better about your body shifts to a position you no longer align with?
Stephanie Yeboah is a content creator, author and journalist - and we spoke to her as part of our exploration of the body positivity movement. It was a movement that she was closely associated with, but one that she has moved away from in recent years. In this extended edition of our conversation we find out why - and how we can move forward in dismantling fatphobia as a society.

If youâre listening to this episode, we reckon itâs safe to say youâre well aware of the body positivity movement, or at the very least, one of the fractions of its evolution; whether that be the self love movement or body confidence one. Itâs within those, after all, that we really made our names.
Today, weâre taking you back to the inception of the body positive movement, which started by and for plus-size black women. In this episode, we dive into how the movement has changed beyond recognition - and where its future may lie.

Have you ever felt bombarded by the information on the internet about heath and wellness? Today on the podcast - weâre speaking to a man who can clear everything up for us.
Dr Joshua Wolrich is an NHS doctor, nutritionist and the Sunday Times bestselling author of âFood Isnât Medicineâ. When we started our body image series - we knew we had to speak to him to understand his take on the âwellnessâ rebrand of the 2010s - when diet culture shifted to a focus on âhealthâ.
You can go back to Mondayâs episode to hear more of our exploration of the wellness era - but in this episode, youâll hear our chat with Dr Joshua in full to as he debunks the health myths that defined the wellness era - and beyond.

The 2010s is a time we have come to think of as the âwellnessâ rebrand. The era in which we declared that we wanted to be âstrong not skinnyâ and that we discarded what we now thought of as âfadâ diets and traded them in for consistent âhealthyâ living. Skin and bones were out, toned arms, visible abs and curves in all the right places were in.
Today weâre investigating if by replacing thinness as the thing to which we should aspire to with âhealthyâ, many of us fell into a false sense of healing, not realising how unhealthy our new and âhealthyâ habits really wereâŠ.

Colette Foster was the executive producer of Channel 4âs factual entertainment show Supersize vs Superskinny.
The show was hosted by Dr Christian Jessen and each week it saw two contestants, one overweight and one underweight, swap diets whilst at a Feeding Clinic, under the supervision of Dr Jessen. Both participants were shown the extent of their poor diet.
This week, we have been exploring the role that television played on how we feel about our bodies - and we were thrilled when Colette agreed to come and speak to us. We were keen to find out about the inception of Supersize vs Superskinny, what safeguarding was in place for contributors and how the production team reacted to criticism directed at the show.
Colette is founder and Creative Director of Full Fat TV, a new factual entertainment company based in Birmingham, focusing on factual entertainment and feature formats with an emphasis on emerging talent. You can read about their work here: https://fullfattv.co.uk/

Itâs something anthropologists will no doubt look at with bewilderment in years to come: the extraordinary breadth of TV shows that were aired during the 00s. From Fat Families to How To Look Good Naked, weâre not sure there was anything more ruthless than the presenter of a show commissioned by Channel 4 between the years of 2001 and 2010.
From the endless stream of TV shows capitalising on the nationâs almost hysterical fatphobia, to the background hum of misogyny that had weaved its way into every conversation broadcasted at the time, this was a truly WILD time to have eyes, ears, or a television license. In this weekâs episode - weâre taking a look at the role television has played, and still plays, in our collective body image.
Thanks so much to our amazing guests who feature on this episode: Colette Foster, Dr Joshua Wolrich and Stephanie Yeboah

This week, weâve been examining the role that nurture played in building our relationships with our bodies - and specifically the role played by the tabloid media of the 90s and 00s.
To really understand how that seismic impact the tabloids had on us - we had to speak to someone who knew how they work from the inside - thatâs where Isabel comes in...
Isabel is a writer who started her career in era-defining journalism, most notably at Heat magazine during its mid-noughties peak - where she contributed, alongside a huge team of people, to some of the most iconic features of that time⊠including The Circle of Shame.
Em spoke to Isabel to find out what it was like working at a magazine that focused so heavily on womenâs bodies, the effect it had on her - and how she feels about it now looking back on that time.
Follow @Isabel.Mohan on Instagram
Subscribe to Isabelâs substack here: https://keepitupfatty.substack.com/ - where she writes about the major journey she has been on with body image and how she has now made it her mission through writing to encourage more people, especially women, to be more active and confident.
