  • Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Podcast Network’s I-80 Football Show. On this show, we travel down I-80 to talk all things Big Ten Football. This is the only Big Ten Podcast that’ll cover all 18 teams. After every week of action, we will catch you up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players you should be paying attention to for the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan.
It was a busy news week for April, something we’re not used to at all! First, we give our respect to a legend as WNBA Superstar Candace Parker has decided to retire from basketball. Candace Parker was one of the first WNBA players to cross into pop culture breaking down barriers and ushering in this new generation of women’s basketball stars. Candace Parker was a one-of-a-kind player who was an instant success becoming the only person to win Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season.
Continuing the news, there are reports from NBA insider Brian Windhurst that LeBron may opt out of his contract and become a free agent. Is it just a formality that LeBron will resign with the Lakers and retire in the purple and gold or is there a chance he will test free agency? NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell broke the news that he is hoping to get rid of another pre-season game and create an 18-game NFL season with two bye weeks. While players may hate it, it may be great for fans as this would push the superbowl to Presidents Day Weekend allowing fans to enjoy the superbowl and have the next Monday off for work. Lastly, Deion Sanders and his son Sheduer get into childish arguments with former players on Twitter over how they were treated in the Colorado program.
In a span of a few days, the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers were bounced from the playoffs in the first round. The torch is officially being passed in the NBA as LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant are all done playing for the season. In the case of all three superstars they may be forcing their careers too long and it may be evidenced by the unhappiness with their coaches. Throughout the season there have been leaks about all three players being unhappy with their coaches but all three teams made similar sacrifices to allow their stars to continue playing with friends and compete instead of building complete teams. It’s not the coach's fault this time, it’s on the players. It may be time for all three of them to join Candace Parker in retirement.

  • There’s been a lot of news out of Ohio State since our last episode. The annual OSU Spring Game took place, multiple Buckeyes either got selected in the 2024 NFL Draft or signed undrafted free agent deals to attend various team camps, transfer portal activity continues, and the team got a new running backs coach.
We start with a look back at the Ohio State Spring Game. Chip Minnich attended and updated listeners with the latest on what the game day experience is now like for attending the event. Plus, we discussed which players showed well in the scrimmage, and we agree that the running backs, defensive backs, and a couple of linebackers stole all the headlines. We also discuss the quarterback situation and whether the Spring Game changes anything about the pecking order.
After our breakdown, we had to go through the list of transfer portal departures. We know where Dallan Hayden and Cedrick Hawkins are going next, but we’re not so sure as of the recording of this show about Ja’Had Carter.
The Buckeyes have a new man coaching the running backs, as Carlos Locklyn has joined Ryan Day’s staff. We discuss what he brings to the team in terms of his own work ethic as well as look back upon what his most recent team did running the football.
We ended the show with a look at where four former Buckeyes will be trying to lock down a spot on an NFL roster. Marvin Harrison, Jr., set another school mark on his way to the NFL; Cade Stover will be reunited with C.J. Stroud, Tommy Eichenberg is going to a place that seems like it’s well-suited for him, and Michael Hall, Jr., is staying in the state of Ohio. Plus, a look at where those who weren’t drafted will be trying to make their case for an NFL roster spot.
We’ll continue coming at you monthly in the college football off-season, with plans to return to our weekly schedule in August 2024. We’d love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email.

For years we’ve been lied to about women’s sports. The line was that investing in women’s sports was bad business because no one watched women’s sports. Despite the success of the USWNT, they were making less than the men and there was no support for a US-based women’s professional league despite their being a men’s league that had a lot less success nationally. Now they can’t tell this lie anymore as the past few years have shown that people watch women’s sports and it is good business to invest, they just didn’t believe in women’s sports.
In the past few years, Women’s basketball has been on the rise and it has officially exploded due to stars like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. This year’s March Madness was run by the women with the women’s tournament outselling the men and significantly outperforming them in television ratings. We are finally starting to get invested in Women’s sports as people begin to realize there is always good if not better play in women’s sports. There just was an intentional decision not to sport them by execs, businesses, television companies, and marketing firms. Truthfully, there has also been a lack of investment from WNBA leadership at times.
In this episode, Dante, Jordan, and our guest DaNaysia have a passionate discussion about the future of the WNBA and women’s sports. While facing this major boom of interest in the sport the WNBA must capitalize on the interest and turn people into long term fans. One of the biggest concerns facing the WNBA is the lack of teams and roster spots which does not allow for many college stars to make the team. We all agree that the WNBA needs to expand, and Jordan believes expansion is the first step to creating a more sustainable product and capitalizing on the interest. Dante believes the WNBA needs to fix its internal issues first and that expanding without doing that is bad business.
Let us know which side you agree with!

In episode 118 of Bucketheads, Connor and Justin are back to recap a busy week for Ohio State men’s basketball. Once thought to be key returners and pieces to the 2024-25 team, Felix Okpara and Roddy Gayle Jr. are officially no longer Buckeyes.
Okpara entered the transfer portal over the weekend after originally saying he would be returning to Columbus for his junior season. We discuss what the Buckeyes need to do now with two spots available moving forward and how to fill those after losing Okpara and Gayle.
In the second half, we welcome John Fanta from Fox Sports to talk about all things Ohio State. We talk about the hiring of Diebler, why it was a great move by Ross Bjork, the Buckeyes three transfer additions thus far, and how he sees the Buckeyes performing next season.

The guys are back and there is a lot to talk about. The spring transfer portal is open and while there are not many key Big Ten players in the portal the portal isn’t going anywhere. The NCAA just approved unlimited transferring which means players finally have free movement. While we agree that the players should be able to move freely Jordan thinks there needs to be a few guidelines in place to protect the players. Most of the players who transfer more than once are not going to be headed to the NFL, what obligation does the NCAA have to protest them academically?
The NFL draft is around the corner and there are a bunch of current or future Big Ten schools represented in the first round. Led by USC’s Caleb Williams the top of the draft will have representation all over the board. Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. and Washington’s Rome Odunze are at the top of the boards while Penn State’s Olu Fashanu is one of the highest-rated offensive linemen in the draft. It may be a bit of a reach if you ask us but Michigan JJ McCarthy is projected to hear his name called in the first five picks! Stay tuned as the Big Ten will be heavily represented in the top ten picks.
The NBA playoffs are here, does anyone have a chance to stop the Nuggets and Celtics from making the finals? Plus are Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic on track to be better than LeBron James? Dante thinks so.

On episode 117 of Bucketheads, the Ohio State men’s basketball team is so back.
The Buckeyes and head coach Jake Diebler has secured a commitment from Kentucky center Aaron Bradshaw, a former McDonald’s All-American, and the No. 4 overall recruit in the 2023 class. We talk about Bradshaw's fit on this team and how he works next to Felix Okpara.
Also, the Buckeyes secured a commitment from Northeast Ohio five-star 2025 guard Marcus Johnson, the cousin of Meechie Johnson. Johnson is a huge pickup and the first five-star to come to Columbus since D’Angelo Russell.
To close, we discuss Zed Key committing to Dayton and his fit there and more transfer portal updates

Lastly, Ohio State hired Joel Justus as an assistant coach and Bronny James is in the transfer portal and has entered the NBA draft. We close the episode by giving our opinions about both of those things.

After every week of action, we will catch you up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players you should be paying attention to for the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan.
If you, like 12 million other people, were in front of your TV watching the Women’s March Madness tournament you witnessed two great games played by four stars, one per team. In this episode, we break down the two games including questioning LSU head coach Kim Mulkey’s questionable game plan against Caitlin Clark. Clark is a generational talent and Mulkey was content to let her do whatever she wanted refusing to make adjustments even when star center Angel Reeses reaggravated an ankle injury or point guard Hailey Van Lith struggled to slow Clark down. Ultimately Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes avenged their loss in the national championship game and head to the final four to play UConn.
In the other game, we saw what it looked like when a coach had respect for an opposing team's player. UConn was intent on making it hard on USC star freshman JuJu Smith throwing every type of defensive look at her. JuJu still ended up having a good game but the UConn pressure was too much to overcome especially with Paige Bueckers playing an amazing game in her first tournament back from injury!
Lastly, the guys discuss the impact these players have had on college basketball and the positives and negatives of the social media debates around Monday’s games. Stay tuned, the tournament isn’t over as two of the best players in the 2020 recruiting class will face off while undefeated South Carolina is looking to spoil NC State's magical run en route to another championship appearance.

To close, we discuss the Buckeyes football team and the recent praise of Jeremiah Smith, CJ Hicks, and Sonny Styles.

  • Spring practice rolls on for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and even though news is a little light in recent days, that’s a good thing. This time of year, there are only so many positives that can happen.
But that doesn’t mean nothing interesting is going on. For this show, we discussed some of the position news coming out of camp, new jersey numbers you’ll have to get used to this fall, the departure of Tony Alford to the hated rivals up north, and more.
We start with camp news and how Sonny Styles figures to be used in 2024, as well as how the right side of the offensive line is shaping up. We also talked about freshman Jeremiah Smith shedding the black stripe off of his helmet after just four spring practices, breaking the old mark of five set by Carnell Tate. Big things could lie ahead for Smith, Tate, and some guy named Emeka Egbuka this fall.
Alford is off to Michigan, which seems an odd departure, but it’s almost as if Ryan Day invited him to be successful somewhere else. We discuss what it means, and why it’s not a big deal if the running backs coach vacancy isn’t filled quickly. There will be no shortage of people interested in the position.
In the biggest news so far this spring (biggest in the literal sense), Ohio State has a new, gigantic Australian punter. Nick McLarty is 6-foot-7 and 255 pounds. Is he so tall opponents can block his punts from the line of scrimmage? Time will tell, but we’re looking forward to seeing what McLarty brings to the table.
Finally, we even delved into some non-football news, including Jake Diebler getting the full-time OSU basketball head coaching position and national championships for some of the Ohio State women’s teams and a wrestler. Meanwhile, the basketball women were not quite so fortunate.
We’ll continue coming at you monthly in the college football off-season, with plans to return to our weekly schedule in August 2024. We’d love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email.

This is episode 112 of Bucketheads Podcast, and Connor and Justin are back to recap a crazy win for the Ohio State men’s basketball team in round one of the NIT.
Ohio State hung on for the win, but the Big Red threw everything they had at them. Jamison Battle and Rossy Gayle came through late for the Buckeyes, but starting point guard Bruce Thornton left the game early with an ankle injury, and his status is questionable.
Then, we preview the second-round game against Virginia Tech.
