Cinema Classics Number 10 - "When the moon is in the seventh house, And Jupiter aligns with Mars, Then peace will guide the planets, And love will steer the stars. This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius"
In this 99th overall Silver Screen episode, host Mike and “The Discord Crew”—Adrienne, Tobi, and Sandy—are back for another swing through classic cinema. This time, it’s a wild, peace-loving, and outrageously wigged-out discussion on the 1979 Milos Forman musical Hair. Adrienne picked out this film for us to watch, a cinematic trip that takes us back to a time of anti-war protests, flower power, and some of the grooviest dance numbers this side of the Vietnam draft. Expect our panel to dig deep into the film's unforgettable characters, incredible performances, outrageous costumes, and songs that defined a generation, from "Aquarius" to "Let the Sunshine In." But don’t be surprised if a few detours come up. Did the film capture the spirit of the era or just miss the mark? What’s the true meaning of “Easy to Be Hard,” and why can’t we stop singing "Good Morning Starshine"? Finally there's a look at how Hair fares with modern audiences who may be craving a peace-and-love revival, as well as an examination of the critical response upon it's release. In this free-spirited conversation, Mike and the gang hash it out, dissecting the movie's message, artistry, and unforgettable musical numbers. So grab your bell bottoms, tune in, and let the sunshine in!

Series 6, Episode 6 - "This is awful! Pass me the popcorn."
Hit or Miss: Star Trek is back for more deep dives into controversial, divisive or downright unpopular Trek episodes. This time we're looking at the finale of Star Trek: Enterprise (and, for a time, Star Trek overall), "These Are the Voyages". Captain Mike & Commander D.K once again welcome aboard Nita, on special assignment from the Sci-Fi Queens. As well as the episode itself, which generates a pretty heated and potentially surprising debate, there's also discussion of favourite Trek finales. Then the Hit or Miss section takes in a couple of Voyagers, a TOS episode that was very of it's time and a character played by a legendary actor with a knack for playing murderous psychopaths. Plus the critics' thoughts, your opinions and an overall review. Don't debate the matter on the holodeck, click play now!

Episode 98 - "This job would be great if it wasn't for the f*cking customers."
Welcome back, faithful friends. On the latest Silver Screen Podcast episode, Mike and D.K. roll back to 1994 to celebrate 30 years of Kevin Smith’s cult classic, 'Clerks'. Feel old yet? Joined once more by returning guest Michael Whaley (for the second week in a row), the crew dives into the world of convenience store slacker wisdom and VHS nostalgia, reminiscing about what makes this lo-fi indie flick both a snapshot of a generation and a timeless piece of deadpan humor. They hash out the highs, the lows, and those quotable “I’m not even supposed to be here today!” moments, blending their own experiences with a sharp review. Will Clerks still ring true, or has it been left in the dust of Quick Stop’s cigarette-stained counter? Grab your Gatorade and find out!
NB: THIS EPISODE CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE AND DISCUSSIONS OF A SEXUAL NATURE, REFLECTING THE FILM BEING REVIEWED. DISCRETION IS ADVISED.

Missed opportunity or misunderstood classic? Why not come on board and find out. Just keep in mind... "You can't leave. She won't let you."
NB: Due to the nature of the film being discussed this episode contains some profanity, explicit discussion and description of graphic, gory imagery that some may find disturbing. Discretion is advised.

Series 6, Episode 5: HALLOWEEN SPECIAL 2024 - "For however long Data and Picard are away the Enterprise is basically free real estate, so a Spirit Halloween moves in."
Get ready for some sci-fi spooks as 'Hit or Miss: Star Trek' gets freaky with our Halloween Special! This time, host Mike is joined by returning ghoulish guests Justin Avery Smith and Dag for a deep dive into the bone-chilling Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, “Genesis.” What happens when our beloved crew start turning into primal creatures? Trust us—this one’s got more jumps than a Klingon targ on a full moon night. Before the main feature, we explore the scary side of Star Trek. Is it the creepy corridors of a sinister starship or the eerie encounters with aliens that send shivers down your spine? And don’t miss the Hit or Miss section, where we’ll sink our teeth into a spooky starship that’s more haunted house than hero, a sinister character lurking in the shadows, and a gross species that made Voyager squirm like it was caught in an arachnid’s web. So grab your tricorder, lock the doors, and set phasers to ‘chill’—this episode will have you howling for more!

Series 6, Episode 4 - "I used to refer to Mirror Kira as "Jazzercise Kira""
Welcome, Trek fans. In this latest episode of 'Hit or Miss: Star Trek', host Captain Mike is back, this time navigating the ethical minefield of Star Trek Voyager's infamous episode, "Tuvix". Joined by the ever-insightful Lady Vean and special guest Sandy Eavenson, the crew dives deep into the moral dilemma that’s kept fans debating for years. Is Tuvix a victim of circumstance, or did Janeway make the ultimate call for the greater good? Is your opinion a red flag, dog whistle, or just a passionate ethical stance? Expect a lot of thoughtful banter, surprising perspectives, and maybe a few jokes as they tackle one of the most controversial decisions in Voyager’s history. Before the heavy lifting begins, there’s some lighter Trek chat to ease you in, followed by a highly entertaining 'Hit or Miss' section. This week, the crew covers a tongue-in-cheek sequel to "Tuvix" that will have you laughing through the ethics, a sleek and futuristic starship that boldly goes where no ship has gone before, a newer face from the franchise making waves, and, to spice things up, a sexually-charged episode from 'Enterprise' that's bound to have raised a few eyebrows. Strap in for another wild, fun-filled episode where ethical dilemmas meet sci-fi absurdity! Grab your Janeway-style coffee and dive in.

Series 6, Episode 1 - "It's camp. It's stupid. It's almost like if Star Trek crossed over with the Adam West Batman"
Strap in for a wild ride as Captain Michael and First Officer D.K kick off a brand-new series of 'Hit or Miss: Star Trek', diving headfirst into Trek's most infamous episodes! Joined by the self-proclaimed "returning champ" Lady Vean, the crew tackles 'Star Trek: Voyager' episode "Threshold," where warp 10 turns you into... salamanders? Yes, really. Expect some laughs, eye-rolls, and facepalms as we break down bad science, lazy writing, and why this episode's evolutionary ideas are more "Jurassic Park" than "Star Trek". But first, there’s the usual crew catch-up and our surely now legendary “Hit or Miss” segment. This week our binary critical eye is turned on a couple of relevant starships, a newly-minted Captain and infamous entries from DS9 and The Original Series. Engage at warp 9.9999999996 (we know what happens if you break the warp 10 barrier!) and join us for this riotous series opener!

Cinema Classics Number 8/Monster Crossover Part 2 of 3 - "It's money, adventure and fame. It's the thrill of a lifetime!"
Welcome back, cinephiles, to another thrilling episode of "Cinema Classics"! Intrepid hosts Mike & D.K are joined by returning guest Nita from Sci-Fi Queens, who was last on our 'Planet of the Apes' review. Yes, we seem to have a thing about primates so we've reunited what we've affectionately dubbed "The Simian Squad" as this time we're continuing our ongoing "Monster Crossover" trilogy by going way back to where it all began with the 1933 classic that inspired and enraptured generations, the one, the only, the undisputed champion of Skull Island dinosaur fights, 'King Kong'! Our crew aren't just monkeying around though, also breaking down every detail and theme about this iconic movie. There's discussion of cut scenes, historical context, the famous "beauty and the beast" motif, Kong as a potential sympathetic, tragic figure and the very unfortunate, outdated depictions of women, colonialism and racial stereotypes. And, of course, no discussion of this film would be complete without talking about the epic fights where Kong takes on everything from a T-Rex (or is it an Allosaurus?) to a Pteranodon. So settle in and by the time you reach the end it'll hopefully have been as thrilling and captivating as that legendary Empire State Building finale.

Episode 89 - "You know what makes you feel okay about losing? Winning."
Welcome to a brand new episode of the Silver Screen Podcast. Today, on the suggestion of our good friend Tobi, we're diving into the high-stakes world of underground poker with 'Molly’s Game'. Join host Mike and his panel of pop culture pros—Tobi, Adrienne, and Sandy (aka "The Discord Crew")—as they ante up for a review of the film that Tobi insisted they couldn’t fold on. This movie was written and directed by Aaron Sorkin (in his directorial debut) and thus the analysis discusses the quick-fire banter, Sorkin-level one-liners, non-linear structure, pacing and visual aesthetics. There's also a deep dive into Jessica Chastain’s powerhouse performance as the poker princess herself, Idris Elba, charming as ever, as the Atticus Finch style lawyer and the infamous "Player X". There's heavy exploration of the real life story portrayed, individual strengths (and weaknesses) of the adaptation and much more analysis and insight more intense and compelling than the high-stakes games Molly ran. Will Adrienne call Tobi’s bluff on his movie pick? Will Sandy go all-in on the film’s sharp dialogue and high-stakes drama? Tune in to find out who’s holding the winning hand and who’s just bluffing their way through. Let the games begin!

Episode 87 - "You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he's expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth."
Welcome, podcast audience, to the real world. In this electrifying episode of the Silver Screen Podcast, hosts Mike and D.K. are joined by returning guests Glenn and Angela for a deep dive into the iconic 1999 sci-fi masterpiece, 'The Matrix'. Get ready to jack into the conversation as they explore the myriad influences that shaped this genre-defining film, from its roots in philosophy and religion to its dazzling homage to anime and cyberpunk aesthetics. As the team unravels the complex threads woven by the Wachowskis, they journey through the history of sci-fi cinema’s fascination with the perils of technology and artificial intelligence. What do the film’s haunting questions about free will versus determinism really mean? Would you have taken the blue pill or sided with steak-loving Cypher's desire to live comfortably in ignorance? And how does 'The Matrix' challenge our understanding of reality versus perception? Glenn and Angela bring fresh perspectives as they delve into the epic showdown between Neo and Agent Smith, examining the profound Asian cinematic influences that make this duel a thing of legend. Of course, no discussion of 'The Matrix' would be complete without a nod to its groundbreaking special effects. Mike, D.K., Glenn, and Angela break down the iconic "bullet time" sequences, pondering how these slow-motion visuals redefined not only action cinema but were so influential to everything from 'Shrek' to 'Scary Movie'. Whether you're a veteran of our own virtual Zion or a first-time viewer, this episode offers something for everyone. Tune in for a mind-bending conversation that will leave you questioning the nature of your own reality—or at the very least, craving a pair of black sunglasses and a billowing leather coat. Whoa!
