Tonight we are diving into the story of Aladdin, which is believed to be authored by Syrian storyteller Hanna Diyab and was first published in 1712. Originally, the far away country the tale is set in is called China, but the inclusion of a Sultan imply that this designation functions as a placeholder. In this bedtime story, descriptions are based on the Ottoman Empire, where Diyab was born.
