ts the last episode of the series which means its the last episode of SMEGHEADS for a while. Red Dwarf ends this time around with a little hope. The crew of Starbug have finally found Red Dwarf… or have they? It’s a very optimistic episode but as we all know by now, it leads into the car crash that is Series VIII. No doubt Daniela will love it, but it is going to be a real slog for me.

Jed and Daniela return for another episode of SMEGHEADS: The Red Dwarf Podcast! This time around we look at episode 7, EPIDEME and once again try to pan for gold in a river of... something not quite the clear water we expect.
We are almost at the end of our journey through Series 7 but don't worry, we plan to move on to Series 8 almost straight away so there won't be too long to wait. And along comes an episode of Series VII that doesn't make us want to jam lego in our eyes. It's BLUE and it's not only a return to form but the return of Rimmer... kinda. It's not the greatest episode of Red Dwarf ever, but there is enough to remind us just how entertaining this show can be when they try. A high watermark for Series VII and Jed & Daniela discuss just what went right.

We love our listeners ALOT (even the hardcore Daniela fans!) but there are a few out there that don't like it when we criticise episodes of Red Dwarf we feel aren't up to scratch. Totally understand that, it's like someone telling you that you're new puppy is ugly. It might be true but you don't want to hear it. Only you can call it ugly. But like said dog, it doesnt mean we don't love that dog, warts and all. Being critical of something is usually bourne out of the frustration of knowing how much better it could (and should) be.

Brining back a much beloved character has its pros and cons, but in the case of Red Dwarf, the latter seems to reign supreme. We put up with Ace Rimmer's appearance (although Emohawk influenced) in Emohawk: Polymorph 2 but having him show up again in the second episode of Series VII might have been a bridge too far. Can Jed & Daniela see past the obvious audience pandering or is Ace's final appearance the straw that breaks the Kipper's back?

Jed and Daniela (with one L) are BACK with a new series of SMEGHEADS: The Red Dwarf Podcast. I know what you're thinking "Oh God... they're talking about Series VII of Red Dwarf, I remember that being saaaaaddddddddd" but that's why this is going to be the best series of Smegheads ever!
A few things to know about this episode:
1: Dont think about the time travel element too much. It makes zero sense.
2: When your realise Michael Shannon is playing JFK, its all you can think about for the rest of the episode.
3: Netflix chose the non-laugh track version of this, and its more uncomfortable than that bit in Hereditary. You know which bit.

It's the last episode of the series and they've genuinely saved the best for last. Daniela & Jed are in agreement for once that the incredibly strong Series XII closed out proceedings with a stellar episode that not only subverts the idea of nostalgia, but also reinvents Red Dwarf for the future.
Its a great time to be a Red Dwarf fan and you'll not have to wait too long until the hosts dive into the next series on the list... Red Dwarf Series VII! Excited? Yeah, us too.

We are almost at the end of a truly amazing series of Red Dwarf. 12 has brought us a brief low but almost certainly the highest highs we have seen for a very long time. 'M-Corp' is a prime example of that and Jed & Daniela attempt to explain why Red Dwarf is now moving into a new age of unsmegginess!

After last week's episode, I feared the worst. Would the rest of Red Dwarf XII be as dire? Thankfully MECHOCRACY settled those fears instantly with an absolute stonker of an episode. A return to form isn't doing this justice, as its more like a return to the classic days of Red Dwarf I - VI. Yes this episode (and spoilers: the next couple of episodes) feel like Red Dwarf at its best.
Absolutely loved this episode and you can tell how pleased we are from the excitement in our voices. You also get the usual tangents and enlightenment and you never know, you may learn something! (likely not anything useful).

Jed & Daniela return to Smegheads to discuss the worst episode of Red Dwarf in nigh on 20 years. An episode with almost no redeeming qualities, the hosts try to find any nugget of gold in the steaming pile of manure that marks the midway point of an otherwise successful new series!
Its basically a terrible rip-off of the Dr Who episode 'The Happiness Patrol' and its unforgivable. We still love this series though, this is just a blip. Hopefully.

An episode considered the very top of the heap. Its the Emmy winning masterclass of sci-fi comedy and the one episode I will always point to when trying to convince Red Dwarf is ESSENTIAL. It's Gunmen of the Apocalypse and it's smeggin' incredible.
Im preaching to the choir here of course because this isnt only critically considered one of the best... the fans think so too. So what more can we say about an episode thats been written about and dissected for decades? LOTS.

After a 9 month hiatus while Jed was getting famous and Daniela was getting dental work done... theyre back with Series 6 of Red Dwarf! Not content with batting away twitter questions from people asking where the new series is, Jed & Daniela have forced themselves in a room together for the first time in ages to give you above mediocre Red Dwarf insight in the least patronising way possible!
