In this episode of Recovered Life, Chelsea Anderson is joined by Lindsay Kolterman, CEO of The Source Chiropractic Franchise.
As a member of the LGBTQ community raised in rural America, a daughter who’s supported her father through his addiction recovery, and a woman committed to continual healing and self love, Lindsay carries powerful story medicine and practical wisdom.
Chelsea shares (for the first time on Recovered Life) how shame, self hatred and addiction fueled her addiction, how she’s found self acceptance within the LGBTQ community and her shift towards a self empowered approach to recovery.
Chelsea and Lindsay highlight some of the pitfalls of the “traditional” recovery approach, including:
• Lifelong identification with one’s addiction, using statements like “I am an alcoholic” or “I am an addict”
• Allowing one’s self to remain in victim consciousness
Key take aways, quotes and questions from Lindsay Kolterman:
“The primary root of addiction is disconnection from Self and God.”
In order to identify and heal the root of addiction, ask yourself “Who hurt me, and what is it about myself that I hate?”
“99% of spiritual work is self love.”

• Maintaining a balance of serving others and prioritizing one’s own needs is essential for long-term sobriety and health. Taking care of Self is taking care of others.

Her story is not just one of survival, but learning to truly love and prioritize herself in the midst of service to others.
Speaking of energy work, I also took the opportunity toward the end of our discussion to share about my experience with Energy Somatics this summer. This episode is a call for the entire addiction recovery community to move from a culture of treatment & symptom management to one of true healing. In this episode of Recovered Life, I’m happy to be joined by Danny Mayberry, a United States Navy veteran with multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. His long-term sobriety, compassion and resilience make him a wonderful asset to the veteran mental health advocacy space. He’s the host of the 1 Mile 1 Veteran podcast. Together with his wife Leighanne, he produces social media content that encourages
Our conversation is a beautiful example of what it can look like to hold space for one another’s healing. Both Danny and I shared openly and vulnerably about our experiences fighting addiction & depression while in the military, childhood traumas that followed us into our service, and how we maintain sobriety and protect our emotional health today.
As per usual here on Recovered Life, I also call into question the conventional “medication only” approach. I really appreciated Danny’s insights not only as a former Navy Corpsman, but someone who honors the power of nature and the human body’s self healing capacity.

What if any and all “routine” engagement with the Western medical system was entirely optional?
What if the system so many people rely on for health care isn’t actually about health care, but sick care?
What if the only person who can truly heal you is…YOU?
What if you were your own health care hero?
For some, these questions feel empowering. Others may feel challenged, convicted, or even triggered. Whatever your perspective, I invite you to consider the ways in which you’ve outsourced your power and responsibility, and how you might reclaim it.
I’m happy to be joined by Dr. Hannah Donahoe for a follow-up chat. While our conversation primarily addresses the United States’ health insurance industry and hospital birth culture, the principles we share will encourage anyone seeking to connect to the Self-Healer within.

If you’ve ever received a diagnosis or label that made you question your potential, you’re going to love this episode. I’m happy to welcome Dr. Hannah Donahoe, a Chiropractor, Kambo Practitioner, Healing Facilitator and owner of The Source Chiropractic in Dallas, TX which just opened its doors last week.
Dr. Hannah’s story is super inspiring to me because she was that kid who was labeled and pretty much discarded by her 5th grade teacher. But instead of allowing words like ADD, ADHD, dyslexia or autism to dictate her future, she chose to heal and believe in herself. Even as a young child, she sensed there was a better way than the typical “medication only” approach to pretty much any health issue- women’s health, mental health, you name it, she believes you can HEAL it.
Hannah and I both share how our spiritual paths have evolved and how our faith in God remains at the center of how we show up in service to others today.

I’m happy to welcome my first international guest and fellow sober sister to the podcast, Hayley Matches, from Vancouver, BC.
Hayley is a Certified Professional Recovery Coach who’s been alcohol-free since 2019. Her sobriety has led to radical shifts in her goals, values & desires, and she now helps others live what she calls an Unwasted Life.
Through this conversation, Hayley & I hope to address some of the divisiveness, contention & misconceptions within the recovery world around which pathway is “best”. We break down the difference between sober coaches, licensed therapists & mentors. Although I got sober in the traditional 12 step community & Hayley didn’t, there’s so many similarities in what led us toward alcohol and away from it.
Whether you’ve been sober for years, newly sober, or simply exploring your relationship with alcohol, I hope this episode propels you toward self-empowered sobriety and supportive community no matter which pathway you choose. At the end of the day, we are more alike than different.

Today’s episode is a fiery one! Buckle up for a history lesson and counter-narrative to the lies multiple generations of women have been sold.
We as women have been conditioned to be ashamed of and even afraid of our bodies. Sisters, it’s time to circle up, have open dialogue about all aspects of our health, fertility and the cultural ideologies that have held us back.
Would it surprise you to learn that pretty much all of what’s been deemed normal by modern Obstetrics, including the naming of many of women’s body parts, was instituted by men?
Back in March, the Washington Post published an article titled “Women are getting off birth control amid misinformation explosion”. Long story short, a bunch of MDs, commentators & so called “health care” professionals trying to discredit the idea that hormonal birth control could have any negative impact on women’s physical or mental health, or their future fertility.
As someone who’s never been on hormonal birth control, I can’t speak to this from personal experience. So I invited a special guest to do so herself.Joining me is Dr. Charity Lenhoff, a Women’s Health Chiropractor and Pelvic Floor Specialist from Tucson, AZ. Dr. Charity serves at The Source Chiropractic, as well as her own practice, Awakened Wombs, which focuses on holistic, empowered women’s health care.
Dr. Charity bravely shares parts of her personal journey that are all too common for women- her struggle with self-confidence, silencing of her voice, and disconnection from her womb space due to years of hormonal birth control.
Our conversation ends with a beautiful account of Dr. Charity’s decision to get off birth control and reconnect with her voice, her sacred womb space, and herself.
I hope this episode leaves you with a sense of hope and curiosity about yourself, your feminine soul, your body and your healing potential- without relying on synthetic drugs or any external authority.

Have you ever felt disempowered, spoken down to, bullied, coerced or simply dissatisfied in interactions with a medical professionals? Have previous attempts to treat health issues with temporary fixes, rather than addressing the cause, left you feeling hopeless? You’re not alone.
Joining me for a conversation about self empowerment, natural health and trusting our bodies is my friend Marie Gonzalez, from Tucson, Arizona. Marie is a Reiki Practitioner, Spiritual Life Coach and Healing Facilitator.
Her story contains powerful lessons about how to advocate for yourself in medical settings, embrace your feminine power in birth and motherhood, and choose self-empowerment instead of outsourcing responsibility for your health. The principles shared here apply not just to women’s health, but to anyone.
Marie and I share personal experiences with standing up for ourselves and overcoming medical doctors’ lack of belief in the human body’s innate ability to heal. While our intent isn’t to attack those who enter the medical profession with a sincere desire to help, we ARE here to critique disempowering systems and remind you that YOU have the final say when it comes to your health care.
