Between the wild end of the Bulls and Lakers game, the Pacers dropping 162 points, some very chalky March Madness brackets, and the start of the baseball season, there was quite a bit of wackiness this weekend in sports. We're getting you all caught up on the top moments.
-
The NCAA Tournament has given us plenty of excitement and several close, back-and-forth games. But, as is customary with sports, there are some dumb moments, too. We're exploring those and seeing how those brackets we filled out last episode are doing.

It's the longest episode of Sports R Dumb yet! We've got a lot to get through. Sean is filling out a bracket with absolutely no knowledge of college basketball. Meanwhile, Joey is filling his out based entirely on mascots (and he apologizes to the Tritons. For some reason he thought Michigan had a Wolverine mascot!). Aside from that, you will certainly learn a thing or two about a mascot you never knew about. What a time to be alive. Happy bracketeering!
-
As you may know, Sean is a Dallas Mavericks fan. You may also remember the team traded Luka Doncic about a month ago, and the star the Mavericks got in return getting injured in his very first game.
Even more chaos has happened since then, and it is tough to support the Mavericks right now. Sean is just about spiritually broken by the end of this episode.
Plus, some NFL shenanigans. We're also in the middle of SXSW, so we're sharing some of the highlights from the annual music, tech, and film festival in Austin. And here's that Pele on The Simpsons video we reference!
-
The Oscars just celebrated the biggest night in Hollywood. We're doing the same with sports! Sean breaks down his top sports moments of the year, from Best Actor and Actress (Athletes) to Best Picture (the most memorable game). It's a grandiose event, except you don't have to dress up in black tie formal wear to enjoy it.

Sports video game titles get released every year. Sometimes, you have to wonder why you're shelling out another $60 to $80. Is a roster update and nothing else really worth it?
Plus, we share some of our favorite modes from video games over the years. Hopefully, some of these take you back to simpler times.

The NBA hosted its All-Star Weekend and...why are there so many non-basketball things going on? Kevin Hart was roasting players DURING a game. MrBeast was hosting a halftime shootout that seemed wildly forced. A YouTuber named Jesser probably cannot dunk a basketball on a regulation rim, and he was one of the judges of the Slam Dunk Contest! And oh so many commercials and stoppages in play.
The Internet was ablaze with criticism, and understandably so. Even some of the players were getting annoyed. That's when you know things are really bad. Also, let's bring back NBA Jam Session!

That Super Bowl sure was something. We're covering Kendrick Lamar's halftime show, the most memorable commercials, and some silly moments from our viewing experiences.

The Dallas Mavericks shocked the basketball world by trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis. Doncic is 25 years old, a top-five player in the league, and has made the All-NBA First Team his past five seasons. Davis turns 33 next month and is often injured, plus he doesn't seem to fit super well within the Mavericks lineup.
Sean, a lifelong Mavs fan, is distraught. He's trying to make sense of the deal, and we share some of our favorite Luka memories from over the years.
-
The Kansas City Chiefs (and Taylor Swift) are back in the Super Bowl. That must mean the NFL is scripted, right?
Plus, Sean gives a postmortem on the latest Cowboys coaching moves. And we reminisce about a handful of players from the mid-2000s. What a ride.

This past weekend, the Bills and Eagles defeated the Ravens and Rams, respectively. The Ohio State Buckeyes won the College Football Playoff, beating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Yet, many pundits and fans wondered...did those teams really win, or did the other teams lose?
We seem set on highlighting failures and not giving teams and players credit for playing well. It's an odd foible of sports, and...well, it's dumb.

Sean has been playing LA Noire, a game that came out nearly 14 years ago but is new to him. He's tussling between believing suspects or accusing them of lies, and it's chaotic all around. But maybe it'll help him forget about how Texas played in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
Speaking of chaos, the college football transfer portal is so silly. Players can leave before their bowl games, meaning the teams on the field might not be the actual players who were competing during the year. What kind of sense does that make?

It's a new year, and that means it's time for us to say goodbye to the silliness of 2024 while making predictions for 2025. Come along for the journey and share some of your favorites, too!
And here's that ridiculous foul by Draymond Green that made Richard Jefferson laugh incredibly hard.

Welcome to the last Sports R Dumb of the year! 2024 sure has been something, hasn't it? It's bowl season, and these bowl games aren't what they used to be. The killing of tradition in the name of dollars is dumb!
Joey also quizzes Sean on the sponsors and participants of various bowl games. Play along at home and see if you do better than Sean. The bar is pretty low.
We'll see you in 2025. Happy holidays!

Have you ever watched a game where it felt like the team that won had just backed into the victory? These dumb wins happen all the time, and we're revisiting some of our favorites.
You'll hear about this weird spinning onside kick the Falcons refused to pick up, the Lions winning a game after missing a field goal, and perhaps the silliest baseball play you'll ever see.

College football celebrated Rivalry Week, and we saw a ton of flag planting. And fighting...after the media told these teams how much they hate each other.
Plus, remember that final Bears drive on Thanksgiving? We sure had a lot of silly things happen this past week. Welcome to December.

Joey has 10 players on his rec league team, but only four showed up for his most recent game. Where was everyone else? Why do so many people feel okay saying they'll do something—like participate in a league, accompany you to a game, or join a watch party—and then back out with no warning or heads up? These people are missing a common courtesy that should be ingrained in all of us.
The Cowboys have had a ton of silly things happen to them over the past couple of weeks. Then, they went out and won perhaps the dumbest game ever. Amazing.
We're also sharing a Mike Leach quote that might set the record for number of times using the word "dumb," and we get way too into the intricacies of tuning a guitar. Plus, it's Thanksgiving week, so we're sharing unusual things we're thankful for.
Number one on that list? You! Follow Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. Thanks for listening!

We're smack dab in the middle of the NFL and college football seasons. Why are we still seeing players drop the ball before they reach the end zone? How has this happened more than once in the history of football?
Plus, Joey gets unexpected guests at the house, a fun fact about those tall skeletons you may have seen in people's yards, and a rude trash talker during rec league basketball.

Astute American listeners may have noticed there was an election last week, with the President all the way to local politicians up for office.
Trying to talk about sports after the chaos of the past week feels like a silly endeavor, but we're gonna try our best! After all, the dumb moments don't stop.

First things first: If you're in the U.S., please vote!
Now, for the episode: Mookie Betts makes a catch in the crowd, and fans try to break his wrist to wrestle the ball from his grasp. Jason Kelce gets asked a homophobic question. Why do fans think they can treat players so poorly and not face repercussions?
Thankfully, in both cases, the offending parties were punished — in the latter, Jason Kelce smashed the guy’s phone on the ground, which you love to see. But still, this is not the behavior anyone needs.
Plus, outfielders losing track of outs in an inning and prematurely throwing the ball into the stands, throwbacks to both How I Met Your Mother and Sister, Sister and the best way to respond to trash getting thrown on the field.
We hope those fans don’t read this part, but we hope you do! Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. And check out Burning Years anywhere you’re hearing this podcast. Thanks for listening!
