  • A woman who has done it all, worked with the Scissor Sisters, toured with Lady Gaga, worked with Baz Lurhmann, taught "Music Connections" at Carnegie Hall, well, you would be hard pressed to find someone as talented and giving as Bridget Barkan.

She has been involved in so many musical and artistic projects, having just released a song about the extremes in life "Good Things", she is also a very talented dancer (as evidenced in the video for the song). Bridget is so giving of herself, and her music shows you she really is an open book.

She is the "Mistress of Ceremonies" at Duane Park, one of NYC's most famous burlesque clubs, and her wit is all over the place.

With a voice that is sometimes soft, other times seductive,  you just find whatever you need in her music, if it's the wonderful lost soul sounds from the late 70s, to a Laurie Anderson-esque version of Kate Bush songs, or reminding us of Laura Branigan, Bridget Barkan's voice and talent has it all and more.

I had an incredible conversation with her, and she caught me off guard, and made me laugh while drinking soda, which was causing bubbles in my brain through the interview.

  • Cam Cole was a world famous "Busker" (Street Performer) but from his nomadic lifestyle, he had no idea  of his millions of followers, as he was performing on the streets in England.

While performing his own guitar blues and pedal drumkit "One Man Band" his music reached people in the strangest places. He decided to document his first tour of America, and is deep south blues pilgrimage.

In his movie "American Mileage" you get to see him playing with some of the greatest blues musicians, with his own guitars, and blowing audiences out of the water with his raw performances.

I got to interview Cam Cole, and Tim Hardiman (The Filmmaker) about the experience. We talked about the film, the music, the people, and how music can bring so many people together in ways no one imagined.

Check out the film "American Mileage" and Cam's work, you will be more than impressed.

  • Every kid who ever doubted themself needs to hear this, every gay person trying to hide it, needs to hear this, every fat kid ashamed of their body, needs to hear this.

Kate Yeager is all of that and more, with no shame, or filter. So, if she is going live without a filter, I guess, I should put this live without any editing. I had the most delightful conversation with this wonderful spitfire. We joked about golf, sweet potatoes, assassinations, and even coffee mugs.

She released a song called "Fat" that got the attention of Julianne Moore, Carnie Wilson, Kristen Chenoweth, Jane Weidlin (Gogo's) who voiced their support for Kate's music and message.

I personally think her message will hit you hard, and make you laugh at the same time.  She has all of my respect and admiration, and I hope you "get the message" too.  GO KATE!!!!

I debuted her song "Edit" on this episode, so you hear it here before its release.

  • In my travels, my friend Eli Quintero (Eliquint) another music journalist, lined up an interview with an amazing queer female vocalist in Germany. I got a text saying "We are interviewing her tomorrow, give  her a listen". I did once over, and had fallen in love with this woman's music overnight.

This whole experience went really fast, and the next day I was blown away with this incredible musician.  It's no secret that I am the Extrovert, Type-A male, and I was reduced to great humility to be in the presence of such a great and powerful woman. Hanne Kah, as a mild, softspoken introvert, will deliver a great spiritual package in her music.

We discussed her experience of coming out, her fears, anxiety, and even "Almost" touring with Adam Cohen (Son of Leonard Cohen, but Leonard Died right before it happend, we talk about that too).

Kah is a German folk artist, who manages to hit you right in the soft spots of your soul, and allows you to melt just by listening to her work.  Hanne was incredibly shy when we talked, but I am sure that on stage she will bring the house down.

Look into her work here, you will love her music, it's that good.

  • "I'm gazing at faces staring blankly at me"  or "A Becher's Brook is love, a hurdle at which greater men have fallen", or so many other opening lines to hit you right in the skull and take you on a musical ride through historical literature, and the thoughts of Mark Burgess, the frontman for the Manchester band "The Chameleons".

If you like Interpol, The Killers, The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, these guys are for you.

The Chameleons are a band that will release an album, then go into hiatus  while the fans spend years going through the lyrics and images. I have been a fan since the late 80s, and after many impromptu conversations with Mark over the years, we finally had a real interview.

In this conversation we talked about the history of the band, the subtle and not subtle change in the sound, how he gets to the lyrics, and then on to the NEW MATERIAL. The EP "Where are You" is a 3 song EP coming out 24 May, and it is worth the years we have waited for new material. The music holds the same spirit of The Chameleons, and tackles the ideas of life 40 years into a journey.

The Chameleons are touring this summer in the US playing their masterpiece "Strange Times" album and other classics, and the new material to the fans.

  • Danny Saber has been "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" for so many albums and musical projects we have all enjoyed  for the last 40 years.

He started young, and made some fantastic contributions to rock & roll over the years.

This episode (Part 2, go look at last week's and tell me what ya think) Danny tells us about working with David Bowie, Alice Cooper (and golf) and even U2.

Just google his name on spotify or youtube and you will have a great rabbit hole to dive into.

  • If you have listened to any Rock & Roll over the last 35 years, then you have heard the work of Danny Saber. Having played and produced for everyone from The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, U2, and then his own work in the bands "Black Grape" and so many others.  This episode is for hardcore music fans.

During Michael Hutchence's "Wilderness Years" from INXS, Danny worked with him on some tracks, one finally has seen the light day called "One Way".

He produced documentaries of Joe Strummer and the Clash, and was even one of the brains behind the film "The Million Dollar Hotel" with U2 and Wim Wenders.

Danny and I talked about so many experiences in the music industry, and covered the moments of many who have since left us. This episode features stories about Michael Hutchence, Rage Against The Machine, and even Andy Gil from Gang of Four who passed just weeks prior to the Covid pandemic.

There is so much Rock & Roll history in Danny Saber, we could have gone on for days.

  • Welcome Back everyone. Picking up from being away for a while, I got to interview "Walt Disco" a band that I saw supporting OMD in Germany.

They are a flamboyant incredibly talented act from Glasgow, that I describe as "If David Bowie sang for Sparks, in the Great Gatsby, with a little Tindersticks in the mix".  I LOVED their performance, since became quite a fan of theirs.

I got to talk to them about their music, inspiration for it, where their ideas come from, and even touring with OMD. They have opened for Duran Duran, and Simple Minds as well, so they have earned their stripes.

They are such an eclectic band that you just have to push play and enjoy what the give you, I am sure you will find plenty.

This interview was with the vocalist Jocelyn C, and the guitarist Findlay, I learned there is no end to their creativity. Enjoy.

  • A Finish / Swedish ethereal popstar Lxandra has been described as having an Amy Winehouse spirit in her music, I got into her because of some of the music, and then the visuals in her videos.

A rather deep themed EP recently released called "Might Not Want To Wake Up" caught my ear, and the accompanying film with it caught my eye.  There was so much to unpack in the music and visuals, I had to go through it all several times. Lxandra will lead you through a journey of introspection, and self reflection, much of it you might be surprised how much you actually can relate to.  This is the kind of music that has something for everyone, (Especially Twin Peaks fans).

I had the opportunity to talk to Lxandra about this release, and the journey around it, start to finish (pun intended).

  • Named after a hill in Spain, two incredibly talented collaborating musicians from Glasgow decided to give us a perfect clash of both of their previous bands.

James Hackett from the Scottish band "The Orchids" and long time friend and producer Ian Carmichael  from the Scottish Electronica band "One Dove" have released new music that seems to be the best of both worlds.

The just released single "Your Shame" is as Ian describes it "The song is about living a life free of other people's expectations,  and not allowing yourself to be shamed by others' standards or beliefs." Having grown up queer and hiding it because he didn't know what else to do, these songs touch on those subjects very well.

I got to talk to them about their previous work, and the new single released today, which even during the conversation Ian found James' explanation of the lyrics fascinating because he didn't know what the songs were about either.

Take a dive into this one, I loved the music, and the chat.

  • We all know Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark, or OMD for the brevity, as one of those New Wave Synth bands that has been around for ever, and indeed they have.

Topping 40 plus years of making deeply powerful synth pop, they have been at it again with this work that began during covid, and culminated in the masterpiece "Bauhaus Staircase".  This is a great piece, that is full of all the philosophy and discussion about the human race, that only one could achieve through a concept of the practicality of the architecture of "Bauhaus" and it's art, and how the human race might just function around said artistic philosophy.

I spoke to Andy McCluskey the singer for OMD about this album, how it came to be, what the inspiration was for it and how they see the concepts helping mankind.  In short, it was a seriously geeky conversation, but not just for art and philosophy fans, it was also great for music fans in general.

The album comes out on October 27th 2023, and it is worth the wait, I play a track from it on this episode.

  • Imagine a fantasy film, sci fi geek who also makes horror film videos to her music. Yeah that sets your mind in motion as to Maisy Kay, and what she does.

Maisy Kay is an English songwriter who has incredible vision and creativity, and a very morbid sense of humor. Her music might sound fun and bubbly, but under the hood, she is really unloading a lot of thought, deep in dark spaces of the universe, but she does it smiling. Having moved as a teen from a tiny rural village in "The Midlands" in England to Los Angeles for a recording contract, she has been making this kind of music, and now playing it on her first tour.

She is often compared to Kate Bush musically, and has been setting the stage aflame with punters chanting her name before she even steps onto the stage.  She has even taken to playing Kate Bush covers on tour, and doing it very well, that should be enough of a reason to go see her live I would think.

We talked about all of these things, her music, inspiration for the videos, and even running around with scalpels.  She has hit the ground running and is a delight to talk to.

*Note, as of the release of this episode there are a handful of tour dates left but the shows are sold out.

  • Kaelen Ohm is a Canadian born singer, singwriter, filmaker and actor.  She has had her finger in many pies, staring in the Isreali TV- Series "Hit and Run" and several other films "Taken" etc, she has made an outstanding career in music.

I found AMAARA to be one of those trance inducing acts, that once you push play, you just let the music take you on an adventure.  The most recent album "Child Of Venus" was inspired by an experience where Kalen Ohm was getting her Vedic Chart read to her, in which she was told she was "A child of Venus". That idea was reflected in the album of self discovery, and finding what it means to be "human" under so many different terms of understanding.

There is so much to unpack in the music which will take you through London Grammar to Fleetwood Mac and some M83 in the Twin Peaks Universe, yeah it's that good.

We talked about her new album from her home on Nova Scotia, and covered the subjects of the songs, the songwriting, and how each experience is unique as a human being, and that norms are not really always the best thing for people.

  • GAYC/DC, yeah, the band name says it all. As a collaborative band of a bunch of friends who are gay musicians that LOVE heavy metal doing AC/DC covers, somehow this had to happen. If only for the fact that the LGBTQ community needs more Punk and Metal in their diet. GayC/DC are exactly that. As the drummer Brian Welch explained it "We wanted to take the most "hetero-normal " band and turn it on it's head".  It wasn't really that difficult honestly, for some songs they would just change a single letter from "R" to "C" in "Let there be ROCK".  You can see where this is going.

I have interviewed 3 of them in other bands over the years, and it is always great to talk to them, not just for the jokes, but for their history in music, these guys are pros and have the stories to back it up. This is a labor of tasteless rude and offensive love (and lust I suppose). They will have you laughing, and then tell you something thoughtful in the same moment.

They just collaborated with music production Tim Eaton ( En Vogue. Allman Brothers) to do a cover of Argent's song "Hold Your Head Up" a queer rallying anthem against bullying. The video tells the story, and these guys just happened to be the voice for it. (link below).

If you want loud, rocking, tasteless, rude and offensive, look no further than GayC/DC, these guys deliver in ways that hair metal bands can't even imagine.  They actually started a cult following by attending an AC/DC concert wearing their own band T-shirts. I wore their T-shirt to UTAH PRIDE, and consider it an honor to know these guys.

  • We all remember Dexys Midnight Runners in the early 80s with "Come On Eileen" as an epic tune that you always smile when it comes across the airwaves on the nostalgia station.

Dexys (the current name) have been making music for 40 years, and if you missed out on it, there was some wonderful music made by these guys. There was a moment when Kevin Rowland was trying to make some changes in his live and get sober, that some major changes happened in his image and his approach to things.  With the release of an album "My Beauty" that had him dressed in some fine women's attire, he went on to embrace his "Sexy Feminine" side.  The press wasn't very kind to him, and somehow took more of an issue with it, and so much was lost there than what the music had to offer.

I have been a fan of all of the music, and didn't really think much of what the point was that Kevin Rowland was trying to make, until now. Dexys has released an album called "The Feminine Divine",  and there is so much in this album you will have to go through it several times.  It is a musical "Fiction" presentation of Kevin's journey out of toxic masculinity, and finding his whole self. Nothing wrong with that, I bless anyone with the kudos to make it that far and in one piece.

    Enjoy

  • SWANS is an experimental rock band, who have been making unconventional music since 1982. Their music requires somewhat of an investment to appreciate.

SWANS music will often take you to the far reaches of the human condition and the human psyche, always leaving the door open to interpretation, even when the lyrics seem clear about the idea, after listening to it enough the music can often change what you think the words mean.

They have been known to play acoustic shows, in tiny venues with arena size sound systems that are so loud that I often wondered how they could produce the sounds on instruments like that.

I got to speak to Michael Gira about the new album "The Beggar" which takes a very different turn from the typical music we have gotten from them. This album is full of more chimes and bells, and a "Joyeous" choral experience, almost like what you would hear in an English Abby, at full throttle intensity. This album is the kind of music you would enjoy listening to as the world is coming to an abrupt end knowing it will melt away into a supernova in a few hours, you want this album as your solace.

I was in awe at the opportunity to speak to Michael Gira, and I was more often than not surprised at the answers he gave me. A very down to earth, and deep thinker, he shocked me at some of the things he had to say. No matter what you think you know about him, you are going to be surprised at how humble a legend can be.

  • IF 1999 was meant to suddenly be "Nostalgic" Bailey Spinn was born for that moment. She is a DIY musician who mucked about on tiktok for a while then she started to record and is now releasing her own music.

Her music sound, and her video elements capture the "Zeitgeist" of 1999, with the imagery of Paula Cole, but with a hard indie rock sound.

She grew up in country, and hip hip, and caught on to rock & roll a bit later in life, and she is having fun catching up .  She has a lot of wit, and courage in her personality, she is not afraid of being who she really is. She is pan-sexual and a proud member of the LGBTQ community.

This interview happened in April and had to wait til her new single "Runner Up" was released, it was worth the wait.

We talk about her move into the music industry, tiktok, and how she got to where she is, even her anxiety for her live performance on the Tam Hall show.

  •  A quick 20 minute banter with Roddy and Joey of the beaudacious rock band "Man on Man" a gay couple who made a great record during the pandemic, and are back with a sophomore album "Provincetown" that will showcase the talent of these guys. Roddy is the guitarist and keyboardist for Faith No More, and Imperial Teen, so, you know you are starting with some top notch talent here.

For Pride month 2023, this is an album that musically NAILS IT, and the lyrics are full of great ideas, and lots of gay content. Enjoy everyone.

  • This is the second hour of the conversation we had, I decided to do the entire interview, because we had so much to cover in his 40 years in the business. He tells some more great stories, and we cover more from the new album. I highly recommend you going through the first segment before this one.

We covered Fleetwood Mac, The Stranglers, more Bunnymen stories, and even Bounty Hunting. No stone unturned with a guy like "Boots", he loves his fans, and loves telling the stories.

Ian McNabb has had incredible longevity with his solo career, producing some of the best work over the last 30+ years since he went solo.

Ian McNabb is from Liverpool England, and we talked at length about the local music scene that produced The Beatles, Echo & The Bunnymen, Julian Cope, and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. We covered in this episode some of our mutual friends, and his own music and what brought him to this point. He has recorded a lot with Neil Young, and was also playing with Mike Scott from "The Waterboys" (He was there when I first met him in 1998).

This is an interview covering a great deal of music history, and the life of a veteran singer, dig in, Ian has a lot of great stories.
