Sometimes my passion for being in the Word starts to wilt a little bit. Chatting with people who love Jesus and reading his word encourages me to see it in a new light, or inspire me to dig in deeper. I've met with Maggie a couple of times in person at conferences and I'm always inspired by her passion for studying the Bible! I
Most of what we have talked about is Bible stuff and fashion (one thing listeners should know is Maggie has an amazing sense of style) But she also lives on a farm, how does what you do on your farm remind you of studying the Bible?
I think it would be impossible to dive into this topic without touching on your last stage of life too. How did you meet Gretchen and end up working for Well Watered Women?
As this season has shifted, how has studying the Bible changed for you? Or has it?
What obstacles do you face in reading or studying the Bible?
In your study you give 5 ways to respond to the text you've read (believe, act, repent, worship, pray) Does one of those come more naturally? Does one come less? What have you done to strengthen that area?

The past couple of months I’ve found myself constantly overstimulated. Then I started to notice that every time I had a quiet moment I popped my air pods in to listen to an audio book, or podcast. I started to wonder if I was stealing from myself all of the moments of silence that would naturally have occurred in my day and filled them with noise. I picked up Sarah’s newest book and found the words were exactly what I needed.
In your opening, you said you’ve found beauty in the contemplatives, even though that isn’t what this book is about. I'm particularly interested in this because it's something that's been coming up in my own circles quite a few times. What have they shown you about quiet, and how is your practice different?
What do you “do” while you’re quiet? Or do you sit and stare off?
As humans, do you think we generally see “Quiet” as a negative or a positive? How has it been both to you?
A line at the beginning of your book caught my attention it was something “I began to wonder if at times my smartphone had become my replacement for the Holy Spirit, the ever-present comforter I turned to in times of fear.” How do we begin to rewire these impulses?
Many of us crave quiet, especially mothers, how do you find quiet in the noise of the little years?
How is quiet essential to our spiritual lives and well-being?
You’ve talked before about the part that OCD has played in your story. In your last book the telling of how you found your way to faith through beauty in the face of the darkness of OCD. Do you think the quiet you’ve learned to find has come in the place of the loudness of OCD? If so how do you think it’s taught you the value of it, or allowed you to point others to the gift of quiet?

Meditation is a cultural buzzword, that a lot of Christians have a knee-jerk reaction toward. Yet, we are called to meditate all through the Bible. Meditation is something I've felt a pull toward studying this year. So I've invited Quina on to talk to us about it!
How is meditation a different spiritual discipline than prayer?
When did meditation become important to you?
I've read your children's books and they give such good truth to ponder. How has the topics you've chosen allowed you to mull over and focus on truth?
Have things in your personal life made that hard? How did you overcome?
Would you share with us a meditation?

On Risen Motherhood Laura has talked about how motherhood is joy-filled and hard. The two are so intertwined it can feel a bit like a moment-to-moment rollercoaster. (I'm the best/I'm the worst) Laura reminds us that hard life circumstances can lead us back to the foot of the cross. When we are weak it shows how desperately we need Jesus. But how? When we are already sipping cold coffee while doing the sink full of dirty dishes? How do we cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus?
How has life looked the way you expected it to, and how is it different from what you expected?
I've found I haven't understood the beauty of the gospel until everything started to go off the rails. What was that moment for each of you?
Were you tempted to navigate toward a parenting formula? What caused you to steer away from that?
On the podcast before we've talked about how we run into discontentment when we compare ourselves to all the moms (ie crunchy mom, athletic mom, homeschool mom, stay-at-home mom) You take it a step further and say the problem is coming from what we define ourselves by entirely. Can you talk more about that?
Practically, how do we begin to define ourselves by who God says we are to become "Gospel Moms?"
How do you find time to form yourself by the word of God to be shaped in his likeness as a "Gospel Mom?"
You can find the new Risen Motherhood book by Laura Wifler and Emily Jenson called "Gospel Mom" and the workbook linked or follow Laura on Instagram.

Christmas is a time of rejoicing. It’s a time to think about what has become commonplace. We’ve spent a month reminding ourselves of what a miracle our redemption is, and today we rejoice in it!

Praising God’s work is a theme we can trace through the whole Bible. It’s often after God has shown Himself the mighty rescuer of His people. Christ’s death allowed people outside of Israel to enter His church. This expansion of his kingdom gives us even more reason to celebrate His salvation with one another.

The more we understand how loved we are, the easier it is to proactively love those who are put into our lives. I want to wrap up with 1 John 4:19, “We love because he first loved us.” When we imitate the love of Christ it is a glimpse of the kingdom He is bringing.

When we understand His glory it doesn’t just sit in our own hearts, but it’s contagious in the best possible way. When we see and understand what He’s done for us, it begins to ooze out of us. Spreading love and joy to those around us. This is just one piece of the way the Kingdom of Heaven brings peace on earth!

In our modern Christmas traditions, it is tempting to rush past the dark and quiet places of waiting. Advent will slow you down to remember the darkness before He came. It also allows for reflection on our own current human experience. Yes, Christ has come and we have so much to rejoice in. Yet, practically, we live in a world that is still incredibly broken.
As you remember the longing it allows you, as you wait, to know that God is faithful. When time stretches thin, He is there even if you can’t see how He will work right now!

If God kept his promises all the times mentioned in Chronicles, then God kept his promise made at the end of Chronicles, we can know that he will keep his promise to bring a new kingdom.

When we don’t take time to memorialize what God has done we forget about it. Things that are hard tend to consume more of our thoughts than things that are joyful, so we have to be intentional to remember the things God has done!

It’s easy to think about the hard things that COULD happen to us. That often leads to overwhelming anxiety. But this verse promises (and I’ve found to be true) that when the hard times come the hope of Christ’s work to defeat death meets us with supernatural peace. We can rest knowing that nothing takes God by surprise, and he is with us in the trials and will provide us with peace when they come.

Because he lived, died, and resurrected we can face our trials and even have the option of faith resulting from it! But here is the best part. You don’t have to squeeze out fruit on your own. You don’t have to muster enough faith to produce fruit. Our fruit is an extension of his work and flows from him through us.

For me, the new year feels like it starts in November, so it feels appropriate to have this conversation now. Every October my new planner arrives at the perfect time in October, so I can get started thinking through my new year! By late December I’m way too tired to be objective.
Why is planning important? I’ve talked to people before about how I plan and they look at me like I’m a three-headed monster.
Thinking about time in seasons
What is your favorite question to intentionally ask yourself before a new season? How to decide what is lifegiving.
We see time as a gift that we choose how we use it.
What’s the hardest part of planning? How to hold plans loosely!

A sacrifice of praise is shifting the heart’s position to recognize you don’t create the good in your own life and that good things don’t come to you by luck, attraction, or manifesting. All good is given to you by God. When you choose to do something, even pleasurable for the right reasons, or recognize your own story in the middle of God's bigger story.

Discover the unique way God created you to connect most deeply with Him!
I love a good personality test. Seeing who we are as individuals in light of the whole community has really helped me kick some of my comparison tendencies.
I took the test and absolutely no one will be surprised I got "Word Nerd"
Can you tell us what all of the options are? Which one are you?
How does knowing our type bring freedom and joy to our relationship with Jesus?
What are some things that tend to rob us of joy?
Have you had a phase where your faith "Joy" was zapped? How did your joy in the Lord become restored?

No matter how dark life gets, we give thanks that he has entered our darkness and brought the light of hope. This is why we eat in remembrance of him. The world is broken. Things were not as they should be, and yet Christ entered it to make a way to restore us back to himself. He was broken in the place of the brokenness we encounter, so the hope he is can be ours. So take heart and remember Christ’s body broken for you.

The food and traditions our families have are so important. Jesus told stories and disciples around the table with his followers. You may noticed there are so many themed cookbooks that are out there to inspire and disciple us into things like "The World of Hogwarts" or "Gillmore Girls." Trillia has done something really neat. She's taken the stories of Black heroes of faith and combined it with discipleship and mouth-watering recipes! To make learning history a joy!
How have stories of your family and how food has played a role in that?
I come from a different culture. You've said, "Knowledge doesn't equal understanding." But how does taking time to dive into things that bring joy give better understanding?
It's wild so many kids hate history. How have you used food to change that for your family?Do you have some favorite heroes of faith? How have they impacted you?
How have you found food drawing people in, especially your kids? How do we use that for discipleship?I've linked Trillia's book "Celebrate Around the Table" and you can find her HERE on Instagram.

Life takes a lot of twists and turns that we don't see coming. What we do with those and how we spend our moments is how we spend our lives. The more I read about psychology the more I believe there is so much choice involved in a half-full or half-empty mentality. No one does half-full quite the way I've seen Sally do it.
Sally Clarkson shares how she met Jesus.
How she came to have a vision for family discipleship.
How Sally Clarkson met Clay Clarkson.
How she learned to live life well even in hard family situations?
Ways Sally Clarkson has intentionally taken responsibility for her own joy?
The way she's seeing Sarah Clarkson live out the vision of family life more beautifully.
How do we begin to write our own beautiful story in the middle of hard lives, high depression rates, and a chaotic world?Brought to you by: Around the Ancient World

This verse and this story is a reminder that God sees those who are being abused, subjugated, and sinned against. In Old Testament law looking out for the underprivileged and foreigners were directly tied to blessings, and God promised judgment for abusing them to build up one’s self.
