First, the Dateline NBC special aired surveillance footage, phone pings, and graphic search historiesâall evidence that may have been under court seal.
Now, Judge Steven Hippler says the courtâs gag order was âlikelyâ violated, a special prosecutor may be appointed, and the entire case could be jeopardized.
Then came another curveball: At a May 15 hearing, Kohbergerâs defense dropped a sealed motion suggesting âalternate perpetratorsâ may be to blame. The judge wasnât buying itâat least not yet. Heâs demanding actual evidence before deciding whether the theory will be admissible.
Meanwhile, victim families are speaking out. Angela Navejas, mother of Madison Mogenâs best friend, says the defense is weaponizing distraction while ignoring the pain of the victimsâ loved ones. The Goncalves family posted: âOne step forward, two steps back.â Is this trial about to implode?

Matriarch Donna Adelson is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy and solicitation in the 2014 murder-for-hire of her former son-in-law, Dan Markel. The Florida State law professor was shot and later died the hospital while dealing with an on-going custody battle with his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson AKA Donna's daughter. Since then--Donna's son, Charle Adelson, has gone on trial and was convicted for his involvement in the murder for hire of Dan Markel.
Donna Adelson is expected to go on trial this fall after several delays have pushed the original trial date.

Dawn Richard testified about a 2009 incident where she witnessed Combs allegedly attack his ex, Casandra âCassieâ Ventura, with a frying pan while she was making him eggs. Richard's testimony explains the abuse she saw and the fear instilled in her.
Sean "Diddy" Combs is facing five criminal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. The music mogul has pleaded not guilty to all charged.
Combsâ defense team agrees Diddy and Cassie Ventura had a volatile relationship in which both parties were violent. They even claim Combs may be guilty of domestic abuse â but not the crimes he is actually being charged with. So the question remains...will the state prove their case? Is there reasonable doubt?
The trial is expected to last eight weeks. Combs also faces more than 70 civil complaints, including one by Richard. He has denied all the allegations against him.

New Orleans JailBreak has all agencies on a manhunt for 7 inmates after a total of 10 escaped a jail on Friday of this week. The escapees still on the loose are suspects gacing murder, domestic abuse and burglar charges. And law enforcement officials say someone helped them on the inside...
Authorities said that some fugitives may have already left the city or Louisiana, and they are urging the public to stay alert, not be alarmed and report any tips. The FBI in a statement said it has "surged resources" and is offering up to $5,000 for tips leading to the arrest of the inmates.

This is the twisted murder-for-hire that started it all â the case of Dan Markel. Dan Markel was shot and killed moments after he pulled up his driveway and into his garage. He died the next day. Now, almost 11 years later the story is still unraveling as alleged co-conspirators, like Donna Adelson, are going on trial one by one.
Markel was killed in Tallahassee, Florida, in 2014, in a murder for hire in what prosecutors say was motivated by child custody issues with Markel's ex-wife, Wendi Adelson. Wendi Adelson's brother, Charlie Adelson, was convicted of the murder of Dan Markel in 2023 just days before his mother, Donna Adelson, was also arrested.
Weâre now learning that Donna Adelsonâs trial, which was supposed to start in June 2025, is now set to begin August 19, but major questions still remain.
A hearing is scheduled this Friday, and at the center of it all:
