Repeat after me: do not talk politics at work. Or on LinkedIn.
Or in job interviews. Or on first dates. Or at Thanksgiving dinner.
Unfortunately for those of us in the business world, 2025 ruined it. Thereâs just no way around the fact that tariffs are the issue driving the business climate right now. Every client, candidate, and partner is asking about itâor struggling because of it.
So maybe, just maybe, talking policy isnât just okayâitâs necessary. Dare I say, productive.
So get ready for a little nuance from Jeff Smith and James Hornick in The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 107, "Talk Policy, Not Politicsâ

At the halfway point of Q1 2025, weâre seeing major shifts in Go-To-Market (GTM) and Corporate Functions hiring. In this episode, Ryan and Emily break down the top trends shaping the year and how they compare to Q1 2024.
GTM Hiring: Marketing rolesâespecially content and designâare surging, while Customer Success hiring is up as companies prioritize retention. Account Executive demand remains high, and SDR/BDR hiring is making a comeback, signaling renewed focus on prospecting. The hiring boom spans SaaS, financial services, and retail.
Corporate Functions: HR is undergoing a major shift, with specialized roles (recruiting, L&D, total rewards) on the rise after a generalist-heavy 2024. Notably, recruiter openings have already surpassed last yearâs total. Meanwhile, contract roles are at record highs, especially for project-based support.
With strong hiring momentum across both sectors, 2025 is shaping up to be a dynamic year. Tune in for our full breakdown of whatâs ahead!

We said we were done talking about remote work⊠but here we are.
A couple years ago, remote was all anyone could talk about. Weâre pro remote, but even we got sick of it.
Why revisit now? Because the dynamics have changed. Remote work comes with real trade-offs (e.g. lower salaries), which some people are gladly accepting. On the flip side, companies are (inadvertently) paying a premium to bring people back on-site.
Whatâs driving these shifts? Jeff Smith and James Hornick break it all down in The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 106, "The Price of Staying Homeâ

The real challenge? Resetting expectations. Letâs be honestâpeople arenât great at that. Whether itâs job seekers or executives, at the end of the day, theyâre all just⊠people.
Jeff Smith and James Hornick break down why, despite all the change, most things about work stayed the same in The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 105, "Work Is Called Work For A Reasonâ

Manufacturing. So hot right now.
Last year we kicked off 21 new RPO and volume solutions engagements. Eight of them came within the Industrial space.
What we enjoyed the most: itâs where we have the least amount of competition from other recruiting firms.
Weâre not complaining. But why is that?
Jeff Smith and James Hornick address why the backbone of the US economy is largely underserved by the recruitment industry in The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 104, "Why Arenât Recruiting Firms Innovating In The Industrial Sector?

Compensation discussions are always the same: Workers want more. Companies want to pay less. And somewhere in the middle the two shall meet.
But this year is a little extra. After a decade-long hiring boom, we had a pandemic, followed by runaway salary inflation, then a tanking job market (for Office Dorksâąïž anyway), and another bounce back (fingers crossed.)
Which really means we have some workers unwilling to move from those high paying jobs they landed in 2021/2022. While others are taking whatever they can get. Then youâve got some companies thinking they can still cut costs. While others are paying up because they have to.
Throw in increased pressure for AI and low cost offshoring and itâs the wild west.
Jeff Smith and James Hornick dig into the disparity and lack of clarity around fair market value in The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 103, "Compensation is a Trainwreckâ

I don't know about you, but I'm feeling pretty good about 2025. Hirewell closed out the year on a hot streak. Best 4 month stretch in 2 years. 21 new solutions clients signed since May 1. And more chatter about increased hiring from both VC-backed start ups and traditional industries alike.
So if hiringâs on the upswing, what new challenge will take its place? Getting candidates to say yes and sticking around, of course!
Every delayed search, declined offer, quick exit, and unexpected resignation comes from a lack of understanding that there's a lot more to hiring than recruiting. Jeff Smith and James Hornick will do a deep dive on what your company needs to focus on in a strengthening job market in the The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 102, "Finding Candidates is the Easy Partâ -

Be careful what you wish for.
Weâve long said recruitment technology is comically behind the times. (Feel free to go way back and watch episode 6, "Why Does HR Technology Suck?") Historically, itâs the last place for new innovation when thereâs more money to be made creating sales or marketing tech.
But if you work in recruiting and you looked at your inbox over the last year, you probably noticed the steady increase in spam pitches. New RecruitTech is popping up left and right. Maybe AI made it cheaper to create. Maybe buyers in recruiting are finally the low hanging fruit.
But the real question: is any of it any good? Jeff Smith and James Hornick. will tackle that in the The 10 Minute Talent Rant, episode 101, "The RecruitTech Hellscape Is Hereâ
