    What we’re Enjoying

Jay’s love for comics has led him to a new Marvel series by Garth Ennis about a captured Nick Fury who has to be rescued by Lt. Frank Castle. A wild action, war comic that brings back the feel of the past with the nuances of modern storytelling. Shua listened to an audible exclusive audio drama by actress Felicia Day called Third Eye. It’s her passion project about the magic world and how a ‘chosen one’ didn’t fulfill the prophecy of defeating evil, and is now living in shame. Comedy ensues with a star-studded cast.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay got crazy with a wild Godzilla movie that celebrated the 5oth anniversary of the king of the monsters. Godzilla Final Wars (2004) shows the Earth valiantly fighting monsters everywhere, when aliens arrive too. Who, oh who, will save us?
.oh yeah
Godzill. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Summer!

The season everyone anxiously waits for all year (until it gets here and they complain how hot it is) is finally here! Summer! As we grew up, we had all kinds of fun when school got out. Playing outside until the sun went down, then stalling until mom absolutely made us come in. We’d create games, find ways to stay cool, hang with friends, and so much more. Can we get back to those days? Or are they just a memory? Come with us as we explore the summer!

    What we’re Enjoying

Shua couldn’t contain his excitement for both IF and Unfrosted. IF is a very touching story about childhood and imaginary friends with tons of celebrity performances and a new, breakout star. Unfrosted was a hilarious interpretation of how Pop Tarts were created. Get out your toaster and Enjoy! Jay powered through another 5K on Memorial Day. Keep yourself fit and healthy and get out there and do something!

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay laid down the base coat with Primer. It is an artistic movie about time-travel that will blow your mind. This one is a thinker, and it pairs well with a brilliant article about the whole thing on Sci-Fi Saturdays. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Martians!

Martians have been a go-to character for a very long time. Even in early literature from the mid 17th century, we saw evidence of our alien neighbors. And when the movies came around, our brothers-from-another-mother-world made for some cool sci-fi stories. Jay and Shua have put together a list of Martians, and other aliens, with clues to their movie or TV show of choice. Join us as we try to guess which ones made the cut.

How did you do on the quiz? Which Martians did we miss? First person that emails me with the subject line, “My other car is a Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to [email protected]

    What we’re Enjoying

Jay sat down for a long, sandy movie marathon by watching Dune parts 1 and 2. Both create a truly gorgeous epic. Denis Villeneuve has created an amazing piece of art that tells Frank Herbert’s story in his own way. Shua was pleasantly surprised that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes told a story that paid a lot of tribute to all of the Apes movies that have come before it.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay is getting ready to rumble with Alien vs. Predator. Even after all this time, it proves to be a fun action packed monster vs monster story. But it wasn’t a totally original idea. Listen to us discuss the movie and then go read Jay’s article. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Movies!

Two Indy movies celebrate landmark anniversaries this year. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom turns 40 and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade turns 35. We compare the two by looking at all their similarities and how they are totally different. Plus, we have a fun game to test your knowledge of these legendary adventures. • Come back in time with us and celebrate the movies that honor World War II. Dramas, comedies, and even sci-fi and horror, there is no end to the stories that can be told and lessons that can be learned from this historical, international conflict.

For more than 80 years Hollywood has been making movies to tell the dramatic stories of World War II. As impressionable youth, Jay and Shua ate them up and still do. Let’s look at some memorable ones.

    What we’re Enjoying

Shua was pleasantly surprised to find that The Fall Guy is a well made, action extravaganza. Ryan Gosling continues his winning streak of fun movies and Emily Blunt shows yet another side of her talent. Shua recommends! Jay was on the edge of his Imperial-made seat while enjoying the series finale of The Bad Batch. Dave Filoni kept us guessing as to the fate of our heroes, and by the end Jay thought it was a satisfying conclusion.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay is pulling all the strings of the live action version of Thunderbirds (2004) with Bill Paxton. It may have not achieved the success and popularity of the bizarre 1960s marionette TV show, but it was a campy homage with some action and interesting interpretations. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Movies!

There have been countless tales of World War II over the years. These stories recount bravery, determination, and heroism in a way unlike any other period of human history. Growing up, Jay and Shua gravitated towards a few classics such as The Great Escape, The Big Red One, and The Dirty Dozen. Plus, believe it or not, there can sometimes be humor in tragedy. Comedies like Steven Spielberg’s 1941, Mel Brooks’s To Be or Not to Be, and The Zucker Brothers’ Top Secret. There are always lessons to be learned and tragedy is often a great reminder to not repeat mistakes. So let’s all remember that, shall we?

    What we’re Enjoying

Jay is digging the retro vibes and modern day storytelling of the Disney+ series X-Men ‘97. Lots of great moments from Marvel’s mutant family with all the nostalgia of the original series. Shua recommends Mel Brooks’s autobiography “All About Me” which was released in 2021. If you listen to the audiobook, you can enjoy Brooks’s still hysterical delivery of the story of his life and career.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisits the 2004 Will Smith futuristic vision I, Robot. Based on a series of stories by Isaac Asimov, it tells the story of a murder committed by a robotic personal assistant in a future that seems a lot closer today than it did in ‘04. And it examines the ethical conundrums of the dangers of AI. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Star Wars!

We start off season 4 of Enjoy Stuff with a look at the adult side of Star Wars. Don’t worry, the kids won’t need to leave the room. Now that the OG fans are AARP fans, how has the galaxy changed perspective? There are a ton of things that are aimed exclusively to adults from jewelry to gaming. Some of our childhood hobbies have expanded into complex (and often expensive) pastimes. We try to answer the question “who is Star Wars really for?” and think we have a pretty good conclusion: Everybody, of course!

What kinds of adult Star Wars things do you do? Do you still gravitate towards the kids stuff? What we’re Enjoying

Shua has been Enjoying the apocalypse. Well, kind of. He’s enjoying the world of Fallout. The new series on Prime Video is based on the successful video games from Bethesda. It’s a 1950’s style world and nuclear war has laid waste to the world. It’s up to an out of place vault dweller, a surface misfit, and a ghoul to save everyone. Jay sat down and experienced Zack Snyder’s Grain Harvesters: Part Two–The Reaping on Netflix. Well, I guess most people would know it by the title Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver. The continuation of Snyder’s universe had a lot to get excited about. Action, special effects, deeper character development, and of course slow motion grain harvesting. Check it out and let us know what you think.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay shuts off the lights and gets dark with The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) starring Vin Diesel. After a year of sci-fi that doesn’t feel very sci-fi, this was a nice return to outer space and futuristic action. Diesel was passionate about making it and it shows. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Music!

It’s the end of Season 3! Enjoy Stuff celebrates by playing our favorite game, “5 Songs” Jay and Shua play each other 5 different songs that make them think of particular movies. Try to play along and guess what movies each song came from. But wait! There’s more to it this time. We have cut these clips down to as little as 1 sec. Will Jay and Shua be up for the challenge? Tune it to find out.

    What we’re Enjoying

Jay took a trip to the great outdoors to enjoy Bald Eagle State Park. It’s always nice to enjoy nature and get away from the world for a bit. Shua watched Steve! (Martin) A Documentary in 2 Pieces. It was a great look at the life of this eclectic and talented comedian. You can find that on Apple TV+.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays shares the dark predictions of 2004’s The Day After Tomorrow. While all the science in this movie may not check out exactly, it does present a strong message about our climate and the state of our country’s attitude about the condition of the world. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy the Future!

Can we predict the future? Sure! Are we going to be right? Well
probably not. But we might get pretty close on a few things. That’s what the Usborne Book of the Future did back in 1979. It gave us a look at what they thought was going to be coming in the 21st century. You might be surprised to find out that they got a lot of things kind of right. From robots to cities to travel, we look at some of their more memorable predictions. Plus, Jay plays a game to see just what movies and TV shows predicted some things we have in our world today.

What did you hope to see in the future we’re living in now? And what’s to come in the next 50 years? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Where’s my flying car?” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. What we’re Enjoying

Shua decided to check out something that keeps popping up on the Disney+ banner called Renegade Nell. It’s a period piece taking place in the 1700’s and it features Nell Jackson, who tries to do good by using some mysterious super powers. Jay found a different kind of team-up/crossover movie which may be considered a B movie (or maybe C-) It’s called Monster Mash but it’s not about a dance or breakfast cereal. Just imagine if monsters teamed up to fight against Dr. Frankenstein. It’s another example of crazy fun.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay tries to remember an article that may have been erased from his memory. It was all about the 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It seems like a great idea to erase bad memories from your mind, but it may cause more problems than it’s worth. This movie really makes you think about your life and your decisions. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Birthdays!

This week we throw all the darts at the idea board to celebrate fun stuff for Jay’s birthday.

We start off with a little game of David v. Keith x Keith v. David. And yes, it’s pretty much how it sounds.

Next we discuss Jay’s complicated relation with the Smurfs. Yes, those tiny little blue things with the white hats that are always having to escape Gargamel even though they’re just trying to Smurf with their Smurfs so they can Smurf all the Smurfs on Smurf.

Do you know the difference between Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars? We’re not sure we do either, but we try to break it down by looking back at our own toys.

Next we play a few rounds of Geek Out to challenge our knowledge of a variety of geeky topics.

Finally we come up with a list of some music that don’t just make you tap your feet, they tell whole stories.

Let’s all wish Jovial Jay a happy birthday! Which of our topics made you think of something? What we’re Enjoying

Jay’s way IS the highway as he indulged in the rippling abs of Jake Gyllenhaal in Roadhouse. This is, of course, a remake of the 1989 Patrick Swayze classic. The modern day version has been updated, and is a bit more realistically violent, but also entertaining and action packed. Check out Roadhouse on Prime Video. Shua jumped hip-deep into the Kaiju footprint and experienced the latest Monsterverse movie where he discovered that Godzilla x Kong = Two Tons of Fun!

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay rediscovered another time travel movie with The Butterfly Effect. (2004) Ashton Kutcher plays Evan who has the ability to travel back to important times in his life and change things that happened. But he is surprised to learn how much even a little difference can change. Check it out on Retrozap.com. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Eclipses!

April 8, 2024 will mark the date of a total eclipse of the sun in the United States. Eclipses are fairly rare, but nothing really fantastical or magical about them, just scientific. But that doesn’t mean you can’t use it as a cool motivator in movies. We look back at movies where an eclipse played an important role.

The moon will be covering the sun today, but after it’s over you’ll be able to enjoy other covers. Musicians often cover other artists' songs. And sometimes their version ends up being more popular than the original. We look at a few legendary ones.

But what could be more legendary than the best cover artist of them all; Weird Al Yankovic? Not all of Al’s songs are covers, but the parodies that are are excellent. Some are even better than the one they are parodying.

Are you in the path of totality? What are you covering today? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Never gonna give you up” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to [email protected]

Not just because of the chilling villain, but because of all the nostalgic feelings along with a bunch of new stuff to enjoy from the latest film. Jay was really pleased to discover that the comic series Hell to Pay by Charles Soule and Will Sliney was a unique and entertaining story. Worth checking out for sure.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays explored a time travel movie again with the 2003 Ben Affleck movie Paycheck. Based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, John Woo directs a movie about the consequences of seeing into the future. Though Jay feels the story is a bit padded, it did bring up some interesting thoughts about decisions. What we’re Enjoying

Shua jumped on the bandwagon (or the sandworm) and saw Dune Part 2. It was every bit the epic spectacle everyone’s talking about. Action packed, entertaining, and visually stunning, he recommends it to anyone who loves seeing big-screen movies. Jay checked out another recent release, written by Diablo Cody and inspired by 80s movies. Lisa Frankenstein tells the story of a teen girl that raises a young, previously handsome corpse and romance ensues. It’s a fun one that feels new and old, which of course gets a TechnoRetro recommendation.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay rounded out the Matrix trilogy by remembering Matrix: Revolutions. The third in the series gave us the fate of Zion, Neo, Agent Smith, and the rest. While presenting a different feel than the first two movies, after a rewatch it presents a fun and entertaining story. Read Jay’s insightful analysis and then rewatch the movie. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

It’s not a boring documentary, and you’re sure to laugh as you learn a little more about the parks. Shua got around to the 2023 Netflix anime “Blue Eye Samurai”. It’s an action packed, graphic, adult story with plenty of Ninja-type action.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay grudgingly analyzed the 2003 sequel that tried to keep a franchise alive but may have nudged it in the wrong direction. Terminator 3 didn’t quite have the some charm or quality of the first 2, but there are ways to Enjoy it, including skipping the movie and just reading Jay’s article instead. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com, now featuring Daredevil Season 1. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

No, seriously). There are things you can do to help yourself feel a little better that doctors recommend. We have taken those recommendations and made them appropriate to our lifestyle, sometimes with a retro twist.

    What we’re Enjoying

Shua found a cool YouTube channel that spotlights innovative 3-D printing featuring some really cool inventions by a guy named Ivan Miranda. A guy with a fun personality and some really brilliant solutions to crazy ideas. Jay has been rewatching the Daredevil series and is remembering why he loved season 1 so much.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisited the sequel to the wildly popular Matrix original, Matrix Reloaded (2003). Despite the now dated innovative special effects, it was a really beautiful movie to watch that expanded the Matrix universe in a very unique way. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com, now featuring Daredevil Season 1. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Movies!

In 1984, Michael Douglas was getting into producing and had purchased a script from a waitress he met at Alice’s Restaurant (no, I’m serious!). He tried to get some very popular, handsome, macho actors to play the lead, opposite the up and coming Kathleen Turner. But ultimately he decided he’d just play the hero himself. With Robert Zemeckis at the directing helm, they set out to make a romantic adventure in the jungle. (But not really Columbia, because it was actually too dangerous) It became a gigantic hit that established Douglas as a strong leading man, put Turner on the road to a string of hits, and gave Zemeckis the ability to create Back to the Future.

Would you give the kidnappers the map or would you go after the jewel? Would you try to romance Joan Wilder? Jay finally got his letter and is returning to Hogwarts. He has dove wand deep into a rewatch of the wizarding world of Harry Potter. So far it’s been magical. Shua turned on Pixar’s 2023 Elemental and then found a cool making-of video called Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental, featuring the writer and director Peter Sohn. It had a lot of heart and gave some good insight of where the story idea came from.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay watched The Core (2003) so you don’t have to. Check out his article breaking down this film that had potential, but just couldn’t fill the hole. Enjoy Time Travel!

This Thursday we tack on an extra day to the calendar to catch up with the Earth’s orbit. 2024 is a Leap Year. So Jovial Jay and Shua decided to do a little quantum leaping of their own. We each chose 4 different years that we would visit if there was a little trash in Mr. Fusion. But there are rules to our choices. We are just experiencing these years. We can’t can’t change anything that happened. (We wouldn’t want the TVA on our tails) Check out the show to see why we picked the years we did, and think about how you would navigate the timestream.

Shua seems to think he has too much time on his hands because he decided to tackle the entire MCU in timeline order. It’s a big commitment, but after the first couple handful of movies, he is still enjoying it! Jay jumped into a slightly smaller commitment by watching Kevin Costner’s 1990 epic drama Dances With Wolves. Tune in to find out what Jay’s Sioux name is.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

The last couple weeks have given us two different movies you’ll want to revisit on Sci-Fi Saturdays. S1m0ne has an interesting take on AI and how it could be used in Hollywood. But revisiting this 2002 movie in 2024 gives it a whole different meaning. Plus, Jay breaks down the final Star Trek: The Next Generation movie Star Trek: Nemesis. It may not have been the best Star Trek film, but there were some pretty fascinating performances in it. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the entire MCU.

    Enjoy Presidents!

As long as there have been movies, we have needed to have someone portray the United States Commander in Chief. A lot of times these leaders weren’t the ones we know from history. Instead, the actor or actress portraying them gets to come up with their own persona. So which ones stood out? What were some of our favorite fictional presidents that gave a good speech, or showed good leadership, or even kicked some butt and saved the day?

    What we’re Enjoying

Jay took Shua’s advice that the new Peacock streaming series Ted was worth the watch. He agrees. It is a funny (and raunchy) story of a boy and his bear. But Seth Macfarlane has given it a heart that really makes you think and care. Shua made his way to the movie theater and saw Jeffrey Wright’s newest film American Fiction. This story, about an author who is disgruntled about the stereotypes of blacks that are portrayed in modern literature.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week Sci-Fi Saturdays shows you some Signs. M. Night Shyamalan’s 2002 alien thriller isn’t a Dead End. Enjoy Comic Strips!

    Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield
there are so many legendary comic strips that have appeared in the newspaper over the years. Originally intended to sell newspapers, their popularity soared and before too long there were dozens of artists making different varieties of comics. As they evolved we got comics that were silly, timely, political, and Pulitzer Prize winners.

Classic strips from the 50s, like Peanuts, Marmaduke, Dennis the Menace, and more are still published today, either in reruns (not Linus’s brother) or drawn by a new artist.

As the 60s and 70s brought change to the world, the comic pages started reflecting it as well. Timely topics were sometimes presented next to our Beetle Bailey. Pulitzer Prize winning Doonesbury by Gary Trudeau proved that the comics could be important. Spider-Man and Star Wars brought other formats of our entertainment to the comics pages.

And then we got a series of mega stars that blew up the popularity of that beloved illustrated section of the newspaper. Garfield, The Far Side, Bloom County, and Calvin and Hobbes became just a handful of reasons people would pick up the comics in the first place.

How well do you know your comics? Let’s play a game to see if you remember the punch line from the very first published strip from a few classics.

Now that newspapers are going the way of the Dodo, what does the future hold for our beloved strip format? We’re not sure, but we will continue to start the day with a laugh.

Did you grow up reading comics? What were some of your favorites (or ones you avoided)? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Let’s go exploring!” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to [email protected]

    What we’re Enjoying

Shua was extremely and pleasantly surprised how incredible the new Seth Macfarlane Ted series is. Crude humor to be sure, but a ton of heart embedded within so many laughs. You can see it on the Peacock network. Jay explored another historical site in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania called the Gettysburg Diorama Museum. It’s a really cool recreation of the famous Civil War battle that gives you a very in-depth look at the soldiers who fought and died there.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay knows what you’re going to do wrong before you do it because of his precogs. You can find them in the 2002 Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise movie Minority Report. In addition to being an action packed sci-fi romp, it also had an interesting take on our future. Was it accurate? Check it out on Sci-Fi Saturdays. Enjoy Movies!

For more than 50 years Kevin Kline has been making movies in a variety of genres. From his stage beginnings he gave us the Pirate King in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance and showed off his musical chops.

He moved on to some dramatic roles and often starred alongside some other big names like Glenn Close, Jeff Goldblum, and William Hurt in movies like The Big Chill. And a western called Silverado with Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, Brian Dennehy, and more.

That’s where he met John Cleese and they connected to make the legendary comedy A Fish Called Wanda with Michael Palin and Jamie Lee Curtis. He took home a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for that.

Romantic comedies, dramas, family films, and even cartoon voice overs. Kevin Kline has something for everyone.
