But before you jump to conclusions and assume her anger is directed solely at you, let me just say that her anger is directed at the situation she finds herself in, not at you though I know it doesn’t always feel like this.

Last week I talked about the nervous system and possibly too much but do you know what? It’s important for us to know this stuff. In this episode, we delve deeper into the misconceptions surrounding teen girl behavior. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just about hormones. Traditional parenting tactics often exacerbate the situation, leaving both parents and daughters feeling lost and fearful. Too often we’re told that if our teen girls are struggling, it’s their hormones at play and the solution? To control, to micromanage, to give them no choice. This is what traditional parenting strategies are about. Does this help? No, it exacerbates the situation, it makes her a lot more fearful and you, more lost. She is scared beyond belief and resorts to one of three behaviours.

Self harm is obviously harm against yourself whilst self care is care for yourself. In this episode I talk about the two topics I have discussed recently - self harm and my accident and how it makes me feel. I also talk about feeling worthless and how trying to do it all makes our daughters feel worthless as they aren’t allowed to do anything. We mirror the exact behaviours we don’t like in ourselves. We don’t need to do it all as Mums, as it can result in traumatic incidents that literally stop you in your tracks. Listen in to find out how to turn things around to connect to yourself and her.
